Obama The Lightworker
UPDATE: After you read this, if you’re wondering where this “Lightworker” snake oil came from, go check out Mrs. Peel who may have found the secret fount of Morford’s theology. It’s good for a laugh.
Short answer: video games. H/T to Doubleplusundead, who has more.
____________________
The unnerving adoration of the Obamessiah has reached a revolting new depth with Mark Morford’s SF Chronicle column. I won’t even link it.
Ordinarily Morford is a voice of such petulant, venomous bitchiness that he doesn’t bear a response. I had seen a couple of blog posts about Morford’s latest, in which he calls Obama a “Lightworker”. At first I just snorted, because it just sounds like a clunker of a phrase–like he’s inadvertently calling Obama some sort of new-age electrician or something.
But reading the column, I get a little chill:
Even Bill Clinton, with all his effortless, winking charm, didn’t have what Obama has, which is a sort of powerful luminosity, a unique high-vibration integrity….
Here’s where it gets gooey. Many spiritually advanced people I know (not coweringly religious, mind you, but deeply spiritual) identify Obama as a Lightworker, that rare kind of attuned being who has the ability to lead us not merely to new foreign policies or health care plans or whatnot, but who can actually help usher in a new way of being on the planet, of relating and connecting and engaging with this bizarre earthly experiment. These kinds of people actually help us evolve. They are philosophers and peacemakers of a very high order, and they speak not just to reason or emotion, but to the soul.
The unusual thing is, true Lightworkers almost never appear on such a brutal, spiritually demeaning stage as national politics….
…we are finally truly ready for another Lightworker to step up.
Morford is careful to disclose he doesn’t consider Obama to be a Messiah, so let me preface this by pointing out that I don’t think he’s Satan. But the Lightworker thing sounded suspiciously like Lightbearer to me. Light-bearer, you see, in Latin is Lucifer–used in Isaiah 14:
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God…
…Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?
It is possible that the Light-Bearer discussed there was actually a hubristic Babylonian king, and that the passage did not refer to Satan at all. Which is exactly my point about Morford’s gushing: if “Lucifer” was a secular king, he was one change-bringing arrogant SOB. And it didn’t work out well for his country. History does not remember Light-Workers kindly.
___________
Of course much of Christian theology, dating back to Church fathers Origen and Tertullian, thinks Lucifer was more than just an earthly tyrant. John Milton in Paradise Lost described Lucifer as the brightest of angels, whose arrogance got him thrown out of heaven:
Know then that after Lucifer from Heaven
(So call him, Brighter once amidst the host
Of Angels than that star the stars among)
Fell with his flaming legions through the deep
Into his place…
Though I may be coweringly religious, I could not help but remember the last time one such Lightbearer “helped us evolve“.
And this Lightworker is helping us evolve already: one of his few legislative accomplishments is a series of unbroken pro-abortion votes that makes even some pro-choicers squirm–including support for the barbaric practice of partial-birth abortion:
According to Barack Obama, Gianna Jessen shouldn’t exist.
Miss Jessen is an exquisite example of what antiabortion advocates call a “survivor.” Well into her third trimester of pregnancy, Gianna’s biological mother was injected with a saline solution intended to induce a chemical abortion at a Los Angeles County abortion center. Eighteen hours later, and precious minutes before the abortionist’s arrival, Gianna emerged. Premature and with severe injuries that resulted in cerebral palsy. But alive.
Had the abortionist been present at her birth, Gianna would have been killed, perhaps by suffocation. As it was, a startled nurse called an ambulance, and Gianna was rushed to a nearby hospital, where, weighing just two pounds, she was placed in an incubator, then, months later, in foster care.
As I said above, I don’t think the Lightworker is Satan. But I can think of no more apt word for this part of his agenda than Satanic.
AFTERTHOUGHT: Yeah, this is a weird post. But Morford was the one who started all the spiritual stuff. If there is going to be a spiritual dimension to the Obamessiah’s campaign, let’s talk about it.

See-Dubya,
Perhaps the term you are looking for is either The Anti-Christ or more likely The Proto-Anti-Christ
George Lucas of Star Wars fame says Obama “is a hero for all of us who have dreams and hope.”
PhotoShop time:
“Darth Obama Lightworker” wielding a Light Saber.
To all Conservative Jedi – May The Force Be With Us.
The people I most see attracted to Obama are the college-educated crowd that regularly watches (the crap that passes as) modern TV.
I don’t watch TV regularly…If someone got rid of it, I would just read more and write more on blogs like this one
The crash of Obama that comes with reality is going to be really tough for these nimrods. He is a lightweight and has no business even running for president. Obama has less to offer than Jimmy Carter and that’s saying something.
See-Dubya, I think there is a blockquote tag that needs closed.
“who can actually help usher in a new way of being on the planet”
What the heck? What has Obama done for the United States? NOTHING. This guy Morford shows just how seriously far gone some people are when it comes to Obama (not going to call him Obamessiah any more.. perhaps “Obama the Deceiver” might be more apt). I’m beginning to wonder about the wording of the Bible predicting the coming of the antichrist..
Somebody put a bib on this guy and wipe the drool off his chin.
But, then again, being from SF, he really could be in love.
The “Lightworker”? More like a dim bulb.
Obama’s just a few watts shy of night light. 57 states? Only if you are counting the number of Islamic States in the Organization of Islamic Conference.
I’m still not going to vote for McCain.
Ask and ye shall receive:

AKA democrat agnostics.
The problem with these people is they derive their (mis)guidance from their “spirituallity”. Being religious carries a responsibility and accountability which weight they will not or cannot bear.
To echo love2rumba’s last point- It’s as if Obama were a character on The West Wing who suddenly stepped into the real world (as the Jeff Daniels character in Woody Allen’s “Purple Rose of Cairo” did) and now the Democrats want this “idealized” persona to be the next president. I mean, why not just nominate Martin Sheen? Didn’t he gain the “experience” by playing a fictional president all those years?!

I truly do not understand how this fawning continues after all of the tarnishing of this snake oil salesman. Terrorist friends, racist mentors and gaffes galore, and the worship continues? It is a complete joke. These people have zero integrity.
Spooky dubs. I cannot tell you how much I think the insane are running the asylum.
The only candidate with some respectibility and integrity is Ron Paul. Seriously!
Simcoe– you might have added “and being from SF, that might not be drool…”

Alright guys…I TOO AM A LIGHTWORKER… there I said it, I have come out of the the meta-closet and proclaim proudly who I am. Gosh it is liberating, like swimming under a cold waterfall. A great weight has lifted from my soul, and I now seek others of my kind to love and cherish. While in energy transit, I can confirm what Mark indicated, Obama is one of us too!. I must add that Obama is still a level 1 LIGHTWORKER, ( I’m on my 17th round trip and have just reached level 4-B ) who has been blessed with a unusual amount spectrum shielding. and by golly it works pretty darn great for him. I actually stood next to him on the last fiery chariot up to the Nova Transfer station, and he was a nice guy, but had serious unsolved issues in Ego, Id and Self that required a remediation by repeating Honor, Truth, and Morals again. The guy still needs a LOT more work on these concepts before becoming a 1-B. Good luck mortals, just remember that you folks are always disappointed in our human-ness!
See-Dub, this is nothing to be worried about, Mrs. Peel found the likely person Morford got this Lightworker stuff from, and I figured out where all the Lightworker stuff came from, and it ain’t the Bible. Check your inbox, and the rest of you can go to my site to see what this is all about.
Thanks for this post, Michelle. Somebody needed to say it. When they start attributing sainthood and “Light” to someone as if he is some kind of spiritual “guide”, you-know-who” is almost certainly behind all of that.
Thanks for this post, Michelle.
See-Dub’s post!
I briefly went to your site,
doubleplusundead, what’s it about?
This is really creepy.
The Left have really gone off the deep end.
Elect Obama and we’ll have the inmates running the asylum.
Basically, the basic concept of Lightworker likely comes from a book written in 1997, Morford’s “spiritually advanced” guy based I argue took that concept and applied a philosophical and functional framework of what makes a Lightworker from two or three video games.
The two things that made me think I have this nailed down were his use of terms and concepts commonly used in RPGs(roleplaying games), but people who don’t play RPGs would probably never recognize, and that the guy worked as a game developer until 2006, when he started this self help business. These games I argue he took from came out in 2003 and 2005.

Doubleplusundead said:
So the author is trying to create a synthetic religious philosophy from his time as a game developer….games like Dungeons and Dragons perhaps?
What do you think his “game” really is, Doubleplusundead? What is his true motivation (Morford’s)?
Don’t worry I love analysis…
Remember the Cave Barry. Remember your failure at the caaaaavve.
I don’t know if his plan is anything more than to make money. He may just be choosing to use these concepts because they fit with his goofy New Age-y self-help blather, or possibly if he has some underlying philosophy. You can see all that in my post.
The self help guy? if I had to guess? Moar munneh! Though he may believe his own BS, you can never tell. He may just be intellectually lazy and decided that he could use RPG concepts to bolster his New Age crap. Most people wouldn’t recognize it. RPG junkies might recognize the NPC term, but that’s only one small thing that can be easily dismissed.
Morford? Just a stupid leftist who buys into this New Age crap. Liberals like to sneer at religious cons who give their money to evangelical hucksters, but they’re just as susceptible to being suckered.
Obama is a racist, marxist, America hating politician from Chicago. He is no more enlightened than Al Capone.
This is pure nonsense.
Morford’s piece smacks of Orwellian ‘inner party doublethink’…freedom is slavery, war is peace, yadayadayada….if Barky Obigot was as ‘enlightened’ as Morford would have us believe, he never would have gone to work as a ‘community organizer’ i.e. as a ward heeler for the Daley machine…any street wise Chicago school kid knows what the Daley machine is,but evidently BO was too thickheaded to understand that…nevertheless,it’s fun to watch guys like Morford and Prissy Matthews go over the top in their praise of him even as he continues his ongoing slow motion self-beclowning and I intend to just watch this dark comedy continue to unfold and grab my share of chuckles with the occasional guffaw
Kind of like what the Soviet press said about Comrade Stalin, or the German press about Hitler.
Your right he is not satan, lucifer, abbadon, apollyon or what ever you want to call him, but he can be used as a tool of satan, and I have my suspicions that he is not what he seems to be to many of his followers. If Obamessiah is a tool of satan their is nothing we can do about it, we can not stop God’s will or the prophecies that Jesus spoke. I suggest If Obamessiah wins (I know I will sound like an alarmist) start looking for the signs of the end. I think no matter Obamessiah is a tool anyway.
know what the press does between columns. They watch reruns of Charmed.
Wasn’t this the whole premise for Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure?
This sounds a lot like this wacko spitual thing called Ramtha in the town I live in back home. All sorts of people from average people to celebrities come to this ladies house in our failrly hick little town to receive “enlightenment” training (which starts at $1200 for the 5 day event and if they want to stay and camp on the property it shoots way up). Here is an excerpt from the site to give you an idea:
For those who prefer modern English over 1600’s English, here’s the passage SeeDub quoted from the New American Standard translation:
I think that passage applies well. However, I also found another very interesting passage which uses similar terminology:
I’m still voting for McCain.
It is not in my authority to know, at least not now, if the Senator is the anti-christ but millions of his followers do seem to have a Obamessiah view of him. The man does seem to have the power to mislead many.
Watching his speeches gives me a chill, something is different than I have seen before. His off the cuff remarks seem totally different in that the charm and eloquence are not there. But again his followers do not seem to see that. But with his association with Rev. Wright, Pleger and Louis Farrakahn I do know that the Senator does NOT follow Christ so on the elementary level he does serve the anti-christ.
What is terrifying is that millions have eyes but do not see. The Obamessiah phenomenon says more about the state of America’s faith that the Senator himself.
“The OMEN”.
There.
I’ve said it.
This is too dumb really stupid this SF guy thinks this is going to turn on the moderate in the middle American electorate? NO when Obama loses they can validate their positions the rest of you are not evolved or enlightened..self fullfilling prophecy.
You notice how the liberal’s “deeply spiritual” people usually turn out to be tree-worshippers?
As a bible college graduate, I am disappointed in the level of thought that comes out of these columnists. Hello. Theological libraries dwarf the lexicon of liberalism.
Small minded might be the best I can say for this “lightbearer” thing, or whatever it is.
On the political front, I am upset when people describe BO’s “vote against the war”. Hello, he wasn’t in the Senate yet.
OTOH, he was against the surge…good judgment, lightweight.
Hey, last night I got the answer on how Obama was going to reach out to Hillary Voters. Unfortunately, his strategy is “Lifetime TV” (the women’s channel where everyone is a victim) and its hypocritical.
Yes, occasionally I watch it, they have one very funny show called Army Wives, that premieres tonight (sunday). Last night I caught an ad where Obama was introducing the show, saying how it was a portrayal of our brave men and indicative of what our military families live through, blah, blah, blah. Ugh, it was nauseating. Really ugly. I think Lifetime might need a note.
No, Bhishma…just..no.
Lightworker? rofl
Oblahma so dumb he probably can’t even light a match.
Obama, the false prophet. BEWARE!
OK, I get it. Lightworker = Skywalker, Source = Force, etc. I gather there is a small, kind-of cult/religion (no political power, of course) in England based on Star Wars. And if you’ve ever hung around Sci-Fi fandom, you could see why some people could get into it. Young people, real young people. Not adults who can vote.
Still, the Rabbi said that in life you can laugh or you can cry so conservatives at least should try and get some humor out of this. There is no reason we can’t go with it and identify Obama as the human Jar Jar, and the Democrat Party as the usurpers of the Republic. We can save the weeping until after election day.
Morford’s spiritual ideas are a mishmash. I read through several of Morford’s past columns and it’s clear he detests the Bible. If he has any real religious feelings it is for a brand of Hinduism. Morford is a yoga teacher. Gurus and yogis are held to be enlightened by their followers. His yoga teacher page shows he considers himself a light-worker, of a sort, since he’s sporting a shoulder sun tattoo. As for his earrings, well, maybe he’s been reincarnated from a pirate. In 2004, Obama explained his version of Christianity to Cathleen Falsani. Obama’s version of Christianity is a mishmash. Only one word fits in all this: Nuts.
MKH should do a cartoon for Saturday mornings. Call it, Barry the False Prophet. Put it on right after Davey and Goliath. That would get the Obamanation screaming, wouldn’t it ?
There was this movie titled The Unbearable Lightness of Being. How about we title this mess The Unbearable Being of Lightness.
Morford’s yoga teacher page:
http://www.yogatreesf.com/teachers/mark_morford.htm
So Morford is a gay pierced tattoo pretzel ?
Maybe we have it wrong maybe Morford was placing a Personal Add and only Obama need reply
You’re right Laree, its a singles mingles thing…………snort
Just might want to be careful there ajmontana. He has been caught off guard a little as he did not realize the marxism he spouted in college and Chicago would get him in trouble in the wider world. But he does have someone preparing powerful speeches for him. Doing that he does indeed mislead millions.
I have been following Presidential elections since 1960 and have seen nothing like this cultish Obamessiah view.
The Senator himself may be a dim bulb, I do not know. But he does have the power and money of the Left behind him, virtually all the news media and millions of willingly blind followers.
There is something to be worried about here.
See-dubya, this is an OUTSTANDINGLY brilliant post – MM owes you a MAJOR bonus for this one!
I am in complete agreement with everything you wrote, especially this last part, and will definitely recommend this piece to everyone I know who is as concerned as I am about the unsettling turn the media has taken in their “worship” of one B. Hussein Obama.
Nothing weird about this column, Michelle, save Obama and some of his followers.
For a Christrian, Obama has an uncanny knack of avoiding even the mention of God in his public appearances. He’s definitely secular with a Satanic abortion twist. That’s not “walking in the Light.”
O’s new age groupies seem to be a government school generation carefully groomed to accept socialism and the destruction of all entities productive in order to save Gaia. For these wackos, Obama’s the Electric Politican – glowing like a dandified Redford cowboy on a white horse.
Only adults should be allowed to vote.
How dare you impune the glorius savior saint obama the great. (peace be upon him) /sarcasm off.
I wonder if he isn’t building himself up for a huge fall.
The uneducated say the anti-christ will be unpopular, in fact according to the bible, he is suposed to be almost universaly loved and hailed as the messiah and savior. Sound familiar?
The Obama followers … too much Kool Aid or too many verses of Kumbaya?
I suggest an IQ requirement.
Their actions are the actions of a cult following. If McCain wins then there really could be violence.
Oh….freaking ……please…
I did not need this first thing this morning. Why are we even paying attention to this?
Think I’m gonna go “enlighten” my coffee with a shot of bourbon…
I’m afraid an IQ requirement wouldn’t help. People with high IQs can behave like stupid idiots.
It’s more about common sense.
Common sense seems to be a rare commodity today….but I’ll try to inject some…
Pointing out that some people seem to be messianic about Obama merely acknowledges a fringe facet of popular social thought….
There has always been a remnant of the old hippie worldview that we as a species are just saints in training….or waiting for the aliens of planet whatever to rescue the “enlightened” …..or with the proper stimulus we can evolve into good galactic citizens…
It’s hubris at best…
And at it’s worst?
It definitely puts us on the galactic short bus….
Come on guys, darkworkers have more fun anyway!
May I suggest a couple of terms to describe the followers of the Oh-man.
Neo-deists: Adherents of the new god the Lightworker.
or
Neo-cans: A follower of the new canon law set forth by the Lightworker.
Being a ELECTRICIAN myself, I resent calling him some kinda new age electrician. That’s really degrading us electricians. Can’t he be a New Age PLUMBER?
Wonder if those brainwashed by Obama’s
light will build altars to “worship” him.
That wouldn’t suprise me in the least.
Heck, we may even have a new national flag before it’s over.
I haven’t seen Christians mention one of BO’s more startling pronouncements. I think it was in the speech where he threw his church under the
bustrain (the bus is now too small). He said something to this effect: “we can’t have individual salvation without collective salvation”.Really? What verse of the bible says that?
Dang, for all this time I thought Jesus said that if I seek, I shall find, if I knock, the door shall be open.
At first I was going to say that he’s a LIGHTWEIGHT not a Lightworker.
Then it dawned on me that when Morford’s “deeply spiritual” buddy related his Obama-vibes, Morford simply misunderstood. The hippies love Obama because he’s a light worker, not a Lightworker.
CW – ck you tags in your post. You appear to have some open tags. Right after Isaiah is quoted. I don’t think your theme handles double quotes too well.
The SF Chron, makes Obama sound like the Anti-Christ.
As for arrogance, Obama is s distant 5th or 6th; and that is just in the Democrat Party.
scratch that, I meant nested quotes.
Mark–fixed it, thanks. Someone else had said something and I didn’t see anything wrong, but that’s because I was looking at in Firefox which apparently figured, ahh, he meant to close that tag.
When I looked at the post in IE it became clear what you were talking about.
The left is worse off than I thought. I have never in my life seen people go as crazy about a human being. They act like a bunch of swooning teenagers after a rock star.
Truly, I fear for their sanity. They look so foolish, and will look more foolish in the near future, especially if Obama becomes our next president. Then these worshipers will stand by and watch their “God” destroy this country.
Lightworker in Oblahma’s case means “slacker” as shown by all his work done or lack there of in the Senate thus far……
Religious nutjobs are scary, and some of you scare me (e.g., gayle). see-dubya, you may have jumped the shark with this blog post my man.
dakine:
Get a brain. Nothing scary about Gayle’s post except the fact that you libtards are worshipping a mere mortal.
When are you nuts going to grow up?
That was my favorite part of the whole post!! Some people just don’t get that “change” isn’t always good!!
Never show fear. Keep it to yourself.
The biggest nutjob I’ve heard about is li’l Marky Morford’s “deeply spiritual” informant.
Thanks Dakine!
Your comment about my thinking is a compliment…..from the conservative point of view.
You should read the BIBLE more often.
Then you’d know enlightenment.
atheling and gayle, the Christian right has sabotaged the conservative movement in this country IMHO. Thanks to the resulting backlash from the majority moderates in the electorate, the Democratic party will control the White House and both houses of Congress for at least the next 8 years. Way to go.
As someone on another blog mentioned, don’t you mean light-bringer?
dakine:
I wouldn’t be so fast to predict the Dems winning anything. The price of gas is quickly becoming a sore point for middle and lower class Americans who are realizing that the pain at the gas pump is caused by the Dems and the ecochondriacs who have them in their pockets.
Secondly, your “humble” opinion that the Christian right has destroyed the conservative movement is absurd. It is the moderates and RINOs who have accomplished that.
You’re another dumbass (yes, this is going to be a Red Forman moment) who simply likes to blame Christians for all the woes in Western civilization WHEN IT IS THE COLLAPSE OF CHRISTIANITY IN SAID CIVILIZATION THAT IS REASON FOR THE VULNERABILITY AND WEAKNESS OF THE WEST.
And the sooner you dumbass libtards wake up and realize that you are the cause of this destruction the better. Until then, why don’t you shut up and grow up?
funny how all your type assume Odumbo is already in the White House, imho, I think not.
watch your tool bag in action here.
I especially like this lame moment by Oblahma.
The second clip is the one to watch.
A lot of people worshipped Hitler too and look where that went. When we abandon our gods to worship the state no good will come. History has borne this out time and again.
I am mystifed that anyone can be ga-ga over this ignorant, stumbling, bumbling, inarticulate, uh-uh-uher. How did a man with no accomplishments and no specific plans or achievable promises get this far?
me thinks Hilldebeast had somtin to do with it…
And the leftards who graduate from college had a hand in it as well.
Has there ever been a more stupid and ignorant generation that has emerged from higher education? Truly, I have known people from previous generations who never finished high school with more knowledge and sense than the idiots being spewed from the halls of marxism here in America.
Not yet.
atheling, it is you sir who is the dumbass, and save your ridiculous hyperbole. Not that I give a whit what you think, but I’m a fiscal/foreign policy conservative and mostly libertarian on social issues. Take your religious sanctimony and stick it up your tailpipe. Please, go form some sort of Christian right party with your buddies and leave the Republican party to right thinking conservatives. We’ll get the job done and let folks live their lives as they see fit free from buffoons like you. Have a nice evening.
Dakine, I ask this in all sincerity:
Do you really think the Republican Party is currently run by “Right thinking conservatives?”
I was just contemplating how they seem to be failing on the border and spend money like drunken democrats. They haven’t displayed too much in the way of conservatism for several years now, if not longer.
I’m not going to get in the middle of your spat with atheling, but come on, the Repubs have really let us down alot lately.
Which is code for libertinism. Anytime someone calls himself “libertarian” on social issues”, that means they support abortion, radical sex education for children, etc… because they don’t want any morality in their personal lives, hence your antagonism towards Christians.
In short, you have no moral compass – not much better than an animal.
And it’s ma’am, not sir to you.
Let me tell you something, dakine. If it were not for Christianity you would have no hospitals, universities, or western culture.
You would not have the art treasures that have been produced because of Christian inspiration from the Renaissance forward.
You would not even have the freedoms you do had not Christians fought and died to protect this country from fascists, and to protect Europe from Muslims since the 7th century.
Your sneering posture masks someone who has nothing of any depth or honesty behind him. It is people like you who contribute to the fall of the West because you have forsaken the culture and religion of your forebears, presuming you are of European ancestry.
For two thousand years people have embraced, lived and died for their Christian faith. And they still do today.
Do you actually expect any cultured, rational and intellectually honest person to believe that you know better than those millions upon millions of people over 2 millenia? Somehow, we are to accept your opinion on Christianity over that of Augustine of Hippo? Or Hillaire Belloc? Or Blaise Pascal? Or Thomas Aquinas? Hell, you’re an intellectual worm compared to that company.
It’s quite laughable.
I think I recognize reading “dakine” on another site, uses another I.D. there, same comments there as here.
