Poll: Voters agree that MSM’s propping up Obama

By Michelle Malkin  •  June 9, 2008 09:05 AM

After constant exposure to Obamessiah imagery, happy dances, hagiographic profiles, tingling, weeping, and ogling, voters conclude that yes, yes, mainstream journalists are in the tank for Obama.

Rasmussen via Allahpundit:

Voters have little doubt as to who is benefitting from the media coverage this year—Barack Obama. Fifty-four percent (54%) say Obama has gotten the best coverage so far. Twenty-two percent (22%) say McCain has received the most favorable coverage while 14% say that Hillary got the best treatment…

Looking ahead to the fall campaign, 44% believe most reporters will try to help Obama while only 13% believe that most will try to help McCain. Twenty-four percent (24%) are optimistic enough to believe that most reporters will try to offer unbiased coverage.

Even Democrats tend to believe their candidate will receive better treatment—27% of those in Obama’s party believe most reporters will try to help him win while only 16% believe they will help McCain. A plurality of Democrats—34%–believe most reporters will be unbiased.

Among unaffiliated voters, 44% believe reporters will try to help Obama and 14% believe they will try to help McCain.

Well, duh.

Oh, and studies by Media Matters to clear up the matter.

I wonder how he would explain the Obasms that have become so common among reporters. Probably just fair and balanced coverage. But any mention of his questionable associates would be character assasination by right wing zealots in his world view.

There are other polls out today, just in case anyone needs to know the stats.

The NYT displayed a poll taken over the weekend, which had the following data:

98% of people believe water is wet.

97% of people believe the sky is blue. The other 3% were Poll results from the Obama School of the Blind, and were thrown out.

100% of people polled stated that ice was, in fact, cold.

99% of those polled stated that the price of gas was too high. The 1% was a sample polling of Amish farmers, who were seen laughing at people in cars as they rode their horse and buggy past them.

This doesn’t make the MSM biased. Take the speeches on Tuesday. Obama gave a great speech in front of twenty thousand enthusiastic supporters. McCain could barely read the teleprompter in front of a hundred paid bystanders. Even Fox admitted McCain was worse that day.

Take the gas tax holiday: people who know about the economy don’t think it would lower the price of gas more than a few pennies/gal. That was McCain being bad and the MSM reporting correctly.

Take the balanced budget. McCain says he can balance the budget by the 2012 even with more tax cuts, by cutting pork. The MSM looks at the amount of pork and the budget deficit and concludes that’s impossible (even now, the deficit is larger than pork spending). It’s not their fault.

The MSM reports that hispanics like McCain because of his immigration policies (what you call shamnesty), then reports that he’s flopped into the hard right “kick `em all out” position. Again, not the MSM fault.

Bottom line: McCain looks bad on MSM TV because he is bad.

    I disagree.

When Obama and McCain appeared at a luncheon of AP editors, only one of them got a standing ovation, and it wasn’t Obama.

The most glaring difference in coverage being biased in favor of McCain is in the ad nauseum broadcasting of Jeremiah Wright, as opposed to the blackout of Hagee and Parsley. Apparently it’s news when a liberal black preacher condems the government, but not when a conservative white preacher calls Catholicism the “great whore.”

The press has had more to say about Obama not wearing a lapel pin than anything about McCain’s lack of basic knowledge about the conflict in the middle east (said three times that Iran was training Al Quaeda, said troop presence down to pre-surge levels, said Waziristan part of Afghanistan). When you add in the repeated references to McCain as the “straight-talking maverick” and near-complete ignoring of McCain’s flip flops on immigration, taxes, executive powers, interrogation, troop presence, and — well, everything, you really have to question who has gotten the most preferential treatment this election season. Most conservatives said that the media favored McCain most in the 2000 and 2008 primaries because he was the most liberal Republican running, and that once he won the nomination, the press would be all over him. I don’t see it.

I understand it’s an article of faith among conservatives that the mainstream media have a liberal bias, but I really believe this election cycle calls that into serious question.

This is exactly what I thought of too when I thought of Obama this morning. This is a remarkable quote. This wasn’t some off the cuff, throwaway speech. This was the day he clinched the Dem nomination. Read that paragraph again. It’s nutty. Obama is in la-la land. It’s like he has no idea what the presidency entails.

Seriously, what independent studies. I’d like to see and study this study you speak of. How about the flagship shows. Let’s look at B.O.R and H and C. O’Reilly is definitely right leaning. Hannity is an unapologetically conservative right-winger. What about Colmes? His name comes second, and he doesn’t set the agenda for the show. He also doesn’t get his own show like Holmes’ America. Why do H and C and BOR put left wing loons on the show like Code Pink and the New Black Panther Party. They never showcase right wing loons like Hal Turner, ever.
Watch the scroll at the bottom of the screen on election or debate night FoxNews shows. They went out of the way to show negative aspects of Obama and pro-Hillary points. Now Hillary will be replaced with McCain.

I will give FoxNews props for having smart liberal pundits like Kirsten Powers and Marc Lamont Hill. But, MSNBC has Pat Buchanan and Joe Scarborough. These pundits don’t set the tone or agenda for the shows. The “independent” study you mention is probably taking the left and far left pundits into account, which isn’t accurate analysis in my opinion. Again, I have the intellectual honesty to say the MSNBC is liberal, and the MSM leans liberal. Read or watch something called “OUTFOXED” and you will witness first-hand accounts from former Foxnews employees who confirm the conservative bias.
I’m not complaining or bitchin about it, but FoxNews is absolutely the Republican network. I just find it very SNL like how they try to claim that they aren’t.

As I suspected the study takes the PUNDITS into account and quotes from them. Having a liberal pundit on to say liberal talking points doesn’t make a network(itself) balanced. I think you have to look at the theme of the shows, the politics of the hosts, the agenda, and the scroll running at the bottom of the screen. That’s just my take. Also, look at the more topical shows like O’Reilly and Hannity and you’ll see that the crazy, wacked out guests are always the liberal ones, as opposed to the ones on the far right. Name a liberal on FoxNews with his/her own show.

Greenwald is a noted liberal and the film was distributed and promoted by MoveOn.org. It wasn’t even released theatrically but, rather, was pushed out across Amazon.com via DVD.

Not that Robert Greenwald is a left-leaning political activist with an axe to grind or anything. Even the review by David Rooney in Variety that Greenwald sports on “Outfoxed” on his website says “appears unlikely to reach beyond a liberal audience with an already vehement aversion to Fox News’ partisan coverage.”

I’m not saying your posting was a waste of time. Don’t be so sensitive. I just don’t think having liberal pundits say liberal stuff, makes a network itself fair and balanced. I repeat, that I would focus on the agenda, theme, and politics of the host.
If a talkshow has guests on talking about incest or necrophillia, does that mean that mean such a show (Springer/Sally Jesse has a fair and balanced viewpoint on the perversion?

I agree that B.O.R. and Hannity are opinion shows, but where are the liberal opinion shows on the Fox News Channel? Again, I haven’t seen a right wing loon guest such as Hal Turner to counter Shabazz or Code Pink. They don’t put right wing loons on these shows as much as the left wing loons, because they want the left to look bad. That’s their right, but I just wish they were honest about it.

There’ no doubt that Outfoxed was produced by a liberal, so does that mean that the former FoxNews employees were lying about their experiences with the conservative bias? Where’s the proof that they were lying, and where are the lawsuits for slander?
Look, I believe in the free-market, and I don’t care that FoxNews are shills for republicans any more than I care that MSNBC shills for the Dems. I’m just stating what I believe to be plainly obvious.
