Yemeni journalist gets six years hard labor for telling the truth about the regime

By see-dubya  •  June 9, 2008 02:25 PM

The other day I told you about New Jersey mom Jane Novak and her relentless blogging on the subject of the treacherous Yemeni regime and their persecution of journalist Abdul Karim al-Khaiwani. Al-Khaiwani faced the death penalty, and he might very well have gotten it without international coverage of Jane’s campaign.

Still, he got six years hard labor.

Thank God for the free press in this country.

If you want to see what it was that got al-Khaiwani in so much trouble, and what the Yemeni government is punishing him for exposing, you can check it out at the Jawa Report. But be warned–the photographic evidence of Yemen’s “Sudan-like” jihad against its own people that al-Khaiwani wrote about is horrifying and not for the squeamish.

Jane’s blog is here, and she’s still fighting.

Agreed, AJ. It could well end up as a death sentence for him. :-(

In Sa’ada, the Yemeni government is waging an intensive and random bombing campaign against its own citizens as well as starving them with a food blockade.

Why would you randomly kill your own citizens?

It blows my mind how the powerful become the powerful sometimes.

The Press is a government’s best friend and can be its worse enemy.

6 years for showing the truth. Sad to say it won’t be the last journalist this will happen to.

We’re all citizens of the Kingdom. Borders are irrelevant. All belongs to Allah. If Allah wills that his people die random, vicious deaths, it will be done. You insult Islam to question the judgement of Allah’s representatives.
