I'm just wondering what's happening with the SCOTUS on the gun ban. Most opinions are released on Monday. So we only have 3 left for this session. Should be interesting.

So how are we supposed to fight disease if we have to spend millions or billions of more dollars in research by trying to find a back door?

They should be protesting people who are cruel to their pets, which is a much bigger issue than people who are trying to improve our health. Then again, these people probably can't be reasoned with. If they redirected their anger, they'd firebomb the home of some senior citizen hoarder who suffers from dementia.

May these thugs reap what they sow. Karma may suggest that one day they get violently sick, and need treatment derived from this research, only to be denied...No health insurance; insurance denied request; or, the line of research was terminated, due to the threats and violence perpetuated against the researchers during critical stages of testing. What goes around usually does come around.

I live in El Cerrito, right next to Berkeley. This little town is full of UC faculty and staff. One of the targets of these protests lives just up the street from me.

The reason for all this anger now is that UC is currently constructing a new underground animal research facility. The "protesters" can't get at it, so they are enraged. About 7 or 8 years ago, UC put their existing animal research facility underground to keep the labs and workers safe from the constant harrassment from these idiots. The "protesters" have been in a huge snit ever since, as they can no longer run up and down hallways and in and out of labs screaming at grad students. What a pity. Don't blame UC for these fools. The university hates these clowns, none of whom ever went to Cal. They infest the campus daily with their "protests" and various idiocies such as the oak tree protest. Some 99% of the 30,000 students go about their business and pay no attention. Those "students" who participate are usually Sociology or Ethnic Studies majors. Get my drift?

I blame the fools offering grants for any animal research to be performed at Bezerkely. And anyone applying for those grants who is based in the area.

Did you read just how irrational these guys are?

Even a researcher who studies bird singing has been harassed and had his house vandalized.

"To study bird songs, you need to get them into the lab," Sanders said. "You want to record them and see how they raise their young."

It's not exactly the animal torture chamber one usually associates with the most negative depictions of animal research. But "apparently, these activists don't believe in any kind of animal research," Sanders said.

And you think policy should be determined by the protester's sense of morality?

That is like letting go of a cinder block and being surprised at how your foot hurts when it travels straight downwards to where your sandal-clad foot happens to be.

Given the moonbat prevalence, and the absolute failure of "Law Enforcement" personnel to ever catch the criminals doing the threatening and inflicting the damages,...
That should have been a "no-brainer".

khan, that essay knocked it right out of the park. I've known for many years the problem with many of these animal rights types and tree huggers isn't so much that they love animals and nature as it is that they hate people.

I find it funny how if you propose intelligent design (which I'm skeptical about, btw) or if you oppose embryonic stem cell research, the left is quick to call you anti-science and anti-progress. But the left is silent on the crackpots who attack animal researchers and destroy laboratories. Aren't those folks anti-science and anti-progress too? I completely respect the issues people have with using live animals in research, especially if it's a scam to get money with no real results. Hey, I use cruelty-free cosmetics myself. But there's no denying plenty of life-saving research has been done with animals and if it's necessary to use live subjects to cure AIDS or diabetes or cancer, bring in the rats.

and if you use that concealed weapon on one of the elite, it’s you who’ll wind up in jail.

Jungatheart, in Texas we have not only concealed carry, but a law that protects the property owner from retribution or suits.

How about we modify a bunch of Claymores ... fill them with some of that brightly colored permanent ink they put in bank bags during robberies, and set them off when they come on the property and get too close or are damaging the houses or cars ... they would be even easier to locate afterwards ... might even use bright pink ink just to make them feel good ...
