I’m sure Al Sharpton will find plenty people to blame the problem on, so the students won’t have to take responsibility for their own test scores. If they really want to make a difference, they should bring in Bill Cosby and Juan Williams.

Let’s see, same classroom and same teacher. Some students do better than others which is normal. In my house, homework and studying is done before playtime after school. When my daughter’s grades slip, I contact the teacher to find out why and how we can improve them. the one time that happened, homework was not being turned in. When I told the teacher and my daughter I wanted to be notified the next time an assignment was not turned in, she’s been on the honor roll ever since. Too many parents expect teachers to be baby sitters and do not take responsibility for raising an adult that can fend for themselves.

So is he trying to grab the education gig in BO’s cabinet? Seeing as how the VP job is going to Farrakhan it’s the best he can do I suppose. Well, even if he doesn’t land the job (a sure sign of institutional racism) he still gets millions from being an opportunistic slime ball.
Eh. It’s hard to study at all when the adult(s) you live with are all stoned, drunk, boinking at all hours of the day, don’t bother to go to the grocery to use your food stamps, maintain a quiet, stable environment for you to sleep at night, etc etc. The gap’s a lot smaller when you control for living situation…
But you’ll notice that “giving school administrators more money to waste” and “wasting class time on political stunts” don’t fix these things, either.
No one has actually SEEN Rev. Al with CASH in hand…….have they?!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh great. As if black and minorities didn’t already get 90% of the scholarships along with preferential entry with lower GPA requirements for every professional field of study that exists. But they STILL keep failing. Maybe if they weren’t so used to the entitlement crap of getting everything without having to work for it, they might actually perform.

What, not passing some of these lemmings automatically through to the next grade isn’t enough for Mr. Sharton?
It’s laughable to suggest that there is inherent racism in racial disparities of success, in this former teacher’s opinion. From my observations of 3 different state public school districts, and given the public vs. private approach toward education, there is a morals/values/ethics gap. Education isn’t highly prized in the black community, not because of white racism, but because so many black families are fragmented, or don’t adhere to the nuclear family model.
Why does any notable, educational leader hang out with this creep? If they think that Sharpton lends credibility to their cause, they need to rethink the core goal set of this new group.
The only credibility, or lack there of, that Sharpton provides is more that of a political, racist pimp that the Dems so love. Go push your guilt trip somewhere else, Sharpton. The real reason that black and latino students fail is that there are no role models telling them to buckle down and study, stop having kids out of wedlock, stop boozing/doing drugs, and learn a little personal responsibility. Too bad the Dems didn’t get this memo a long time ago.

Shoot, and I must have missed the Asian activists complaining about the racial disparity in education and achievement between whites and Asians. Ditto, for the Hindu activists complaing about the same thing. And yup, the militant Rabbi’s demanding equal opportunity to achievement for Jews in the schools: what channel were they on?? Dang my cable provider.

I’ll never forget my Dad’s words to me when I was applying for scholarships and to college. I asked him why the college administrators asked for “race and gender” on the forms. He said, “Son, you’re white, and you’re male. You’re [can't say that here.] I pray I won’t have to tell my sons the same thing.
Why not just hand them a degree and skip the hard work? Would that make Sharpton happy enough to go away?
Interestingly, there is no appreciable difference in the average standardized test scores of white and black students who are homeschooled. In fact, black homeschooled students average higher test scores than white public schooled students. So what could be causing the achievement gap between minority homeschooled students and minority (and majority) public schooled students? Homeschooling costs a fraction of what the public schools spend per student. Could it be . . . parents???
You can offer all the wonderful programs in the world, but you won’t have an educated populace without parents who make education a priority. Oh, sure, there will be the occasional students here and there who will rise above such a background, but their numbers will be offset by those dragged down by negative peer influences toward education.
They are in some of the California University system schools. Asians are considered a favored race which drops them below Gay Comanche drug users. Many of the Asians are STILL dominating some sciences so I guess the Multi-cultural crowd will put more quotas on them.
If they would just shuck and jive and bitch about whitey they might be welcome, bro.

How about letting parents teach morals, ethics and personal responsibility and letting the damn
schoolsindoctrination centers get back to teaching reading, writing and mathematics to those that are capable and/or willing to learn and bringing back vocational schools for those who are not?Can there really be any doubt in ANYBODY’s mind that simply dumping more money on the problem does NOT make it go away?
What? Are we going to install new grading curves so everybody fails equally? Sadly, I really would not put it past these charlatans.
I’d like to expand on what les in nc said. The schools are intergrated and that means students of all races are sitting side by side and listening to the same teacher, yet the black student’s grades are lower than the white student’s? Who’s fault is that?
The schools were intergrated to fix the problem, but here in 2008, Sharpton is still blaming whitey, instead of encouraging the black students to buckle down and study harder.
By the way, where DOES all of his money come from?

What are we going to do? Stop whites from graduating till enough blacks have? Lowering the standards? What ever happened to the idea of holding the student accountable for thier own work? Don’t do the homework? You don’t pass. Than works no matter what your skin color is.

You can’t legislate an end to bad parenting.

To MR. KLEIN: The SHAME is what people like you, and NEA and other teacher unions have done to the EDUCATION SYSTEM of this great country… And to REV. AL, shame on you for KEEPING a whole RACE and CLASS of people down in the GUTTER, so they will always be BEHOLDIN’ to YOU… There are consequences when CHILDREN are not held RESPONSIBLE for their ACTIONS, when there is no REWARD for excellence, when no one KEEPS SCORE, when there are NO WINNERS and NO LOSERS… Than we GRADUATE these poor kids, and THE REAL WORLD slaps them in the FACE… But, they sure have SELF ESTEEM… Anyone catch the SPELLING BEE this year??? The WINNER from AZ, my state, was of ASIAN heritage… The winner of INDIAN heritage… Both MINORITIES, both EXCELLING!!! Kinda’ puts MR. KLEIN and REV. AL’s message in the CRAPPER, huh???
