credit unions are better. they don't pay taxes like banks do, thus the pols don't get their hands on your money. and rates are better too.

I have several joint accounts with my retired mother through Wachovia. She's been slowly moving her money out of Wachovia and into several small local banks over the last year. When I go back to visit in December, we're going to close all the accounts for good.

Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Wachovia are catering to illegals. I would like to know how this works with the Bank Secrecy Act or the Patriot Act since you must show an actual id to open an account. As far as banks that don't deal directly with illegals - look at USAA Federal Savings Bank. You can use ATM's anywhere in the world. It is open to the general public. And NO I don't work there.

You can start looking for a more responsible local bank through the internet or Yellow Pages. You can also search the net for sources to give you a bank rating - bankrate.com comes to mind, but there are other sites... It's been about 5 years since I went through a hassle with a major bank. Since then, I've made certain they are local, or all branches are within my state of residency, and their assets vs. outstanding loans is solid. Most ATMs are tied in with an international verifying service and you can use them anywhere. Don't be shy about asking all the questions about bank policy you want. They want your business. Their customer service is also outstanding. Just last week this sweet lady called and said I'd forgotten to sign a check and did I give permission for them to pay it (they could have automatically rejected for payment thus causing a multitude of extra charges on my end). The fact she represented the fraud division caught my attention real quick...never had that kind of attention to detail from the BofA's of the world. :)

I was heading over to Wachovia this afternoon to take advantage of a market beating rate on a CD. Glad I saw this article. My wife and I closed our BofA checking accounts and canceled our BofA credit card years ago over that bank's support of illegals.

In the two decades I worked for banks and mortgage companies, not once did our internal attorneys permit us to say in our marketing materials anything like "supporting American homeowners since 19**" because it would be viewed as disciminatory against non-citizens. I swore under my breath every time we told to write something more "inclusive". Grrrrr.

When are these companies going to learn that when they pander to illegals, they drive away american citizens? I don't know what started the "press 1 for english" and bilingual signs, but I avoid as many businesses as possible using them. I have learned to do without lots of stuff as a result. What sense does it make to build an economy to accommodate deportable people?
