Obama advocating concealed handguns? Only rhetorically
I would be remiss not to mention Fightin’ Jacksonian Colonel Obama’s rhetorical venture to the armaments cabinet. And I wouldn’t want to be remiss. (Not really sure what “remiss” means, now that I think about it, but I think it’s bad.)
Here’s what he said:
He warned that the general election campaign could get ugly. “They’re going to try to scare people. They’re going to try to say that ‘that Obama is a scary guy,’” he said. A donor yelled out a deep accented “Don’t give in!”
“I won’t but that sounded pretty scary. You’re a tough guy,” Obama said.
“If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,” Obama said. “Because from what I understand folks in Philly like a good brawl. I’ve seen Eagles fans.”
Okay, three things. No, make that four.
I. If I were a liberal Democrat I would squeal in fright that Obama was advocating violence against his political opponents and ushering in a police state. I am, instead, a rational adult capable of assessing context, so I know it was just meaningless rhetoric.
II. Obama was infamously quoted as wanting to roll back concealed carry laws. Apparently he sees some utility in them after all, at least when you’re under knife attack.
III. The point of that speech in The Untouchables he’s citing is a very, very, very interesting one. It was from an old Irish cop asserting that to beat Al Capone, Elliot Ness would have to bend the rules, and color outside the lines a bit–because Capone was an enemy who would use your own rules against you.
I’ve always thought that speech applied very well to the war on terror. I would expect Obama to disagree with me there–but it’s interesting that he does seem to think that “the Chicago Way” applies to domestic politics. I suppose a pupil of Tony Rezko’s would have to think like that.
It makes sense, if you think Republicans are the real enemy, and that the terrorists are just a distraction from the progressive agenda.
IV. The essence of Malone’s speech in The Untouchables is a negation of the doctrine of proportionality. It’s not an eye for an eye, to which there is a kind of symmetric justice. It’s two eyes for an eye. The idea being that the disproportionate cost incurred will deter mobsters like Capone from attacking cops and breaking the law.
There’s something to that idea.
Does Obama understand this as it applies to international politics, or is it just a figure of speech? I suspect that this was a telling slip of the tongue. Intuitively, Obama understands along with the rest of us that “massive retaliation” is a winning strategy and that our national defense should be geared to dispensing the unthinkable to those who attempt the unthinkable toward us.
Therein lies our security. America is a bunch of hair-trigger badass gunslinging cowboys and you do not want to be on our bad side. That’s why we have those ten-megaton warheads riding in those silos in North Dakota and on those submarines deep down in the ocean somewhere. An attack on the United States or its interests will deliver catastrophic consequences. That’s the Chicago way. That’s what keeps us safe.
Intuitively, because that’s the metaphor he grabbed when he was on the spot, I think Obama understands this. But politically, he’s saying something else. Which is why Obama is, as Capone jeered at Ness later in that same film, “nothing but a lot of talk and a badge”. Will he do what it takes–whatever it takes–to keep America safe?
Can we afford to take that chance? What if he’s…remiss?
Time for one more? Good.

V. The guy who wrote that speech Obama lifted from–in the screenplay for The Untouchables–was David Mamet, who recently and famously underwent a conversion to a sort of idiosyncratic conservatism, or at least he is no longer a “brain-dead liberal“.

It’s a good thing Huckabee didn’t slip up and say anything like this, else the media would have jumped on his back and mauled him.
Oh wait…
If Obama wins in November, it’s because the media wills it. You can call me “master of the obvious,” if you’d like.
If something were to happen, after obama cleaned up the load he left in his underwear, he would run to the UN to get a resolution passed & show those guys he means business. God help us if that putz gets elected.
I don’t buy Obama’s rhetoric.
There’s the old adage, “Walk softly and carry a big stick.”
I think Obama is more of a “Slink out the back way and run like a weinie” type.
Barry makes so many “distracting” misstatements and “changes” his quotes when they tend to get him in trouble. I’ve said it many times, hes a fool, a token for the Liberals. He gets left to himself on stage and he starts to look like a little kid, waiting for somebody to come wipe him. Hes helpless without his Mama Obama standing there to prop him up. Pathetic……….
“If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,”
Are you sure he didn’t get that from Deval Patrick?
Oh wait, that’s the line that got Sean Connery the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
What’s next, “Go ahead make my day?”
I guess in Chicago it is okay to make threats. If McCain said something like that he would have to apologize.
Now that B.O. advocates carrying a gun for his ilk, will he respect my right and your right to do so too…?
BO just gave us a petard to hang him by later on…
Brenda, they would force McCain to step down. Then he would have to prepare for his trial. Thats fair and balanced I guess.
I know Sean Connery. Sean Connery is a friend of mine. And Senator Obama, you are no Sean Connery.
Touch of irony: Lloyd Bentsen lays that zinger on Dan Quayle, after Quayle said he was as qualified to be president as Kennedy was, since he’d be that heartbeat away. Which, by the way, is substantially more qualified than Senator Obama. And, of couse Lloyd Bentsen represented the Old Guard; the steady hand. Experience. Like McCain.
If liberals can’t be trusted with the Second Amendment, they sure can’t be trusted with a gun.
The most dangerous thing in America is a liberal who has a gun in his or hers possession.
Liberals refuse to take a NRA gun safety course. So when you do see a liberal with a gun, they never check to see if the weapon is loaded. They always have their finger inside the trigger guard on the trigger. They have a habit of pointing guns at people they don’t attend to shoot. And they are one thousand times more likely to accidentally discharge a gun and hit an innocent by standard. Usually a child.
apacherat–
I’m waiting nervously for the inevitable “Obama goes skeet shooting” photo op to show he’s a regular old sportsman jsut like his fake pretend NRA says he is.
I hope the casualties are minimal.
Will he wear his bike helmet?
Dems don’t mind fighting dirty against their enemies.
Just that dictators like Chavez and Li’l Kim and Achmendinejehad aren’t their enemies.
Their enemies are conservatives and patriots.
Ok, I’ll bring this to the gun fight. And don’t forget the gravy.
Colonel Barack Obama? The one with the cowboy hat and the Wild West Show?
Az Neanderthal – I’ve never understood why a woman would be for gun control.
I grew up in a house that had lots of guns, most of which were in a gun cabinet which was hardly ever locked. My dad taught me how to shoot when I was really young.
When I was eight he took me bird hunting. I say ‘bird’ because I don’t remember what kind. I only know he showed me how to track the bird to what appeared to be about an inch in front of it. I took aim and shot and saw that bird twirling out of the sky.
Well, to this day I can shoot like a man, but hey, I was a little girl so I ended up crying the rest of the day. Boy was he ticked off with me.
B. Hussein should not be allowed to wear a Cowboy hat… For the love of pete!
I wonder if this rule would apply when they came with knives to slash the tires of republican voters?
Interesting points Ed Mahmoud.
As for Elliot Ness … they may have bent the laws in order to preserve them. B. Hussein Obama … I have no doubts, would bend them in order to further subvert them until the socialists could do away with them altogether … at least any laws that could be considered reasonable by any rational person.
A cowboy hat? Aw man. That would ruin it for me.
Then we get into the sordid details of what will happen if only the liberals have guns. And said liberals run the government. That prospect sends chills up my spine.
“I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.” Slightly out of context, but when considered in this particular light — hoo boy.
Oh! Oh! I just thought of something!
If Barry brings his gun to a knife fight, will he be too busy clinging to it to actually defend himself with it?!
/going to bed…
You may be right, but to my memory, Quayle was making no such comparison. What he was doing was quoting Kennedy (I think in the context of “ask not….”) and Bentsen, liberal twit that he was, chose to deliberately misinterpret Quayle so that he could throw out that gratuitous insult. Quayle’s response, which is never quoted, was right on the money – “That was uncalled for”. Benstsen was one of the last of that breed of Texas politicians, and good riddance.
That’s the way it used to be, which is why Americans prior to WWII were pretty much safe anywhere in the world. Now we’re fair game because everybody knows we’re a paper tiger. Watched “The Wind and the Lion” again tonight. Made the same point.
See-dub’s point #4 is spot on. The Democrat’s playing of the “race card” comes to mind. Any minor criticism of Obama gets shouted down as being racist, bigoted, distracting, etc. The leftists have already used this strategy time and time again, unchecked.
The wussified Republicans are too “gun shy” and limp-wristed to respond to Obama’s or any Liberal’s attacks.
Maybe I’m over-simplifing things, but it seems akin to any idiot with a soda straw and a sheet of paper can make the entire US Military retreat for fear of getting hit by a spit ball.
The Republican problem is that we’ve welcomed so many former Democrats into our “tent” (RINOs) that it’s become a circus. If you get enough clowns together, don’t be suprised when a circus breaks out (Credit to a poster @ NewsBusters).
Let “independants” be independant instead of RINOs.
TAKE BACK OUR PARTY !!!
If I were running his campaign there would be certain words/verbage I’d advise the Obamas to not employ, e.g. Michelle O’s wont to refer to BO as her “Baby Daddy”.
This sudden fondness for using handguns could bring to mind an old John Lee Hooker song.
Obama has Secret Service protection.
You don’t!
I will keep my CCW Permit and my firearms, Thank You!
Much of the doubts about Quayle’s qualifications revolved around his youth and inexperience, he was only 41 at the time. According to the transcript of the Quayle-Bentsen debate, he was asked repeatedly by the moderators about his qualifications to assume the presidency in the event of a tragedy.
He responded by comparing himself with JFK, our country’s youngest president. It was a risky maneuver that left him open to the famous retort by Bentsen.
Not if the libs have their way.
City by city and state by state … we must take our country back on the local level. If not, I fear we will be reduced to protecting it street by street.
Obamaa in a cowboy hat and carrying a gun? … yikes … brings back images from Blazing Saddles …
See Here
DesertLover, great minds think alike. I referenced the same movie in a thread over at HotAir.
Blazing saddles is a crack up, Odumbo, not so much.
All hat, no cattle.
Why did the reporter say accented? Was this one of the border crossing illegal voters that the dems are going to pull of the election with?
All Lib, No Mettle.
Over at HA I also said Cleavon Little would make a better president.
Touche`
I can’t imagine this coward running the greatest nation on earth. It would be even worse than the Carter years.
Figuratively speaking, I have no doubt that BO will bring a gun to a knife fight against conservatives on any domestic issue under consideration. Not only is it the Chicago Way, it’s the Alinsky Way. Conservatism is the enemy in the minds of him and his supporters and nothing conservative shall be allowed to stand.
Not perceiving foreign threats to be threats at all, he will bring an olive branch to gun fights in foreign policy. It should come as no surprise when US citizens are killed as a result of being inadequately represented on the world stage.
Obama=long on liberal populist rhetoric, short on character and experience.
Once the Obamasiah takes the reins of power with a Democrat controlled Congress there is not doubt that he will one day send out the jack booted thugs of the BATF to seize any and all firearms the average citizen have in their possession with the usual lie of it being for the children. When the average citizen is disarmed it will be time to enact another failed Marxist regime and he and his fascist regime will always be able to bring a gun to a knife fight. If they allow us to have knives.

thought I would shed some light on remiss just for fun.
careless; not attending to duties
http://www.gradesaver.com/classicnotes/titles/salesman/terms.html
derelict: failing in what duty requires; “derelict (or delinquent) in his duty”; “neglectful of his duties”; “remiss of you not to pay your bills”
wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn
As for Obambi, he would not touch a firearm because he is too afraid. Guns kill people all by themselves and he does not want to get hurt. He will wear a cowboy hat and if it will get him mileage, the boots as well.
expat
Obama probably does not know which end of a gun is the business end …
DesertLover,
Definitely don’t want to hand him a weapon that’s for sure.
My favorite person to quote from movies is Hudson in “Aliens”
Hudson: I’m ready, man, check it out. I am the ultimate bada**! State of the bada** art! You do NOT wanna **** with me. Check it out! Hey Ripley, don’t worry. Me and my squad of ultimate bada**es will protect you! Check it out! Independently targeting particle beam phalanx. Vwap! Fry half a city with this puppy. We got tactical smart missiles, phase-plasma pulse rifles, RPGs, we got sonic electronic ball breakers! We got nukes, we got knives, sharp sticks…
Despite his flaws, Hudson manned up went down fightin’ in the end.
I’d like to remind everyone that every Marxist revolution in history was accomplished by armed thugs murdering massive amounts of people.
Obama’s assertion that he’s gonna bring a “gun fight” his political opponents doesn’t seem to me to be too far from what he probably really believes deep down inside.
Pay attention to what this guy says folks, it’s a window into something greater.
That’s one of the many things that repulses me about Communism: the thugs always had to impose their “equality” on people by killing most of them. Go fig.
All “royalty” must disarm the citizenry before the “royals’” tyranny is revealed.
Liberals have no problem with guns, violence or force, as long as it fits their agenda. Elian Gonzales? Waco?
And, their agenda is to change the American paradigm.
File off your serial numbers, and find a hiding place…
ANOTHER article which very nicely displays the idiocy of what republicans/ conservatives are doing to thwart B Hussein Obama’s potentially disastrous (for America) presidential bid – playing nice. In sports, we call it playing down to your opponents level.
Here we have a “candidate” who is entirely vacuous on every possible level – character, ideology, spiritually. He is a sitting duck, so to speak, for anyone who has the guts (or as MM puts it, the b*lls) to go full out and say out loud what he is: a racist, an America hater, a terrorist supporter, a liar, a typical corrupt politician.
Easy pickings, right? Like shooting fish in a barrel, right? Yup. Unless you are cowered by his half-blackness and you are, in spite of what you may think of yourself, infected with the dreaded PC disease. Most of those who disagree with him are.
So what to do? You actually take him seriously, and attempt to argue with a fraud as though he were serious. Racism? No, just “poor judgement”. Terrorist friendly? No, just “naive”, and prone to “gaffes”, etc.
Take a gun to a knife fight? This is not a “gotcha” moment for us; a “AH HAH! lets pick this apart and discover what is REALLY cooking inside of him! Expose him! We have him, we have him!!” moment. This is nothing more than a wimp using Clint Eastwood talk. I’d bet he’s never been in a real fight in his life. Along with everything else, he is a jerk.
The fact is conservatives have all along been fighting an unarmed fraud by 1) arming him (taking him at all seriously, as ANY one of his character issues would have long ago disqualified any white man), and 2) disarming themselves (playing a nice, PC game of cat and mouse-playing by HIS rules because they are simply too afraid to do otherwise) Too clever by half, and all that.
Obama must be lots of fun at a dinner party (too many knives). I wonder if he brings his side-arm?
I love the hypocrisy of this all the way around. Any gun imagery or play on words by a liberal is so totally out of line it is horribly disturbing. As far as I am concerned, we don’t give them the benefit of the doubt and take him at a literal meaning, just to see him scramble.
In the Untouchables, Malone says if they send one of yours to the hospital, you send one of theirs to the morgue. That isn’t a liberal ideology? He also tells Ness to shoot low when firing and make sure you take your man down. That isn’t a liberal either.
I’m pretty sure that would be racist, if it came from a white Republican.
Elmer Obama?
“Be vewy, vewy quiet. We’wre hunting Wepublicans!”
Hasn’t Opansy demonstrated a lack of toughness in this campaign? This statement of his sounds an awful lot like a weenie trying to sound like a man.
He’s a wimp, we know it, he knows it, and now he’s got to display a backbone if he has any hope in the general. (Or overcoming Hillary’s possible insurrection at the convention. She ain’t done yet… and she has more cajones than Obambie.)
If only democrats could get their anger up over terrorists and their oppression as they do conservatives…..if only.
I wonder if we’ll see helmeted Obama come rolling down the street in a tank someday… deja vu…
Well said Michelle!
Your deconstruction of Barry’s own flipant use of that movie quote should be must reading for every registered voter in the country. Perhaps you could build this small piece into a full blown editorial for Townhall, or…?
Who is Malik Abongo Obama?
Barack tells the bitter people that his older brother’s name is Roy. But Barack knows full well that he’s a militant Muslim and does not go by Roy.
Who does he work for during his “few months a year consulting in Washington” since at least 1985? Which cause?
Michelle, this might be worth kicking around.
Further, Malik does not live in some small Kenyan village with some goats. He lives in England near (or with) his mama Kezia and he travels to DC for months at a time each year.
As long as Michelle O. pulls my trigger, I’ll be OK:
http://michelleobamawatch.com/?p=39
ENJOY!
Pity that Obambi views the GOP as more his enemy than he does Islamic terrorism. To that fight, he wants to bring unconditional talk and unilateral retreat.
In The Untouchables, Malone’s other signature quote was “What are you prepared to do?” (emphasis on DO.) As Michelle asked, the salient question for American voters is whether or not Obambi is prepared to do “bring a gun” to the folks who actually want to kill us.
That Untouchables conversation ought to be directed toward McCain. He appears to be the one who seems unaware of what he is up against in this election.
Where’s the outcry from the left about him advocating violence? Wait a minute, he’s a leftist, too, never mind. They’re the only group in this country who can advocate anything they want to, and get by with it. It turns my stomach.
See Dubya said:
“Will he wear his bike helmet?”
I think he has to wear a helmet when he sleeps..
Hmmm, having been raised in Philly ( the city not the suburbs), I know Obama would be quivering in a corner somewhere. But, more importantly, is it okay if I take his comment as a threat to me and mine?…. Sure sounds like it where I come from. Here in MN they’re milquetoasts…. meh!
Remember, when a socialist points a accusing finger they are detracting from themselves.
In other words Obama intends to attack McCain by creating public fear of him.
Other then age and health, what what fear will the left creat?
*Whew*
Reading that first sentence, I thought someone had failed to “layoff of” Michelle “My Belle” Obama and he was going to prove me wrong about him just being a posturing liberal trying to act tough in that interview.
Indeed, it was well said, hound – but by See-Dubya, posting for Michelle today.
I made a like mis-ID boo-boo awhile back, so I learned to check the byline at top!
Obama said today, that he would put a basketball hoop in the White House. No doubt he will invite his home-fries from da’ hood to come play. Wonder if I can get the concession on the metal detector? Then again the Malt Liquor concession might be better.
We grew up in a house where everyone was familair with firearms; we knew how to handle, shoot and secure them. I made sure my daughters were well versed. My youngest daughter taught her husband to shoot.
Too the best of my knowledge almost every gun club is seeing an increase in women learning to shoot both recreationally and for self defense.
My oldest daughter is involed in this group. For pure self defense I would think it is is more important for a women to carry, though I would have everybody carry. While a women is less likely to be attacked than a man she is also more likely to be much smaller than the attacker. The hell with screaming or calling 9-1-1–shoot the sob.
Now that I think about it I may purchase a gift membership to the NRA for both our Presidential candidates.
I thought you were joking, Mark, until I saw the news story.
Obama promises hoops in White House
“he plans to replace the White House’s bowling alley with a basketball court.”
Talk about a guy who’s hellbent on stereotyping an image!
On the plus side, at least he’s finally taken a firm stance on something.
And I get to pay for it, then the sob will take the china with him when he leaves.
Probably cannot even play basketball.
I still can’t believe he’s so awful with the off-the-cuff gems.
And not to contradict you, but that type of jive unfortunately is all too common in such places as No. Mpls. – as sadly attested to by innocents like Tyesha Edwards.
And this was in response to the question who would win the NBA championship. If this is how he answers those tough questions, can’t wait to hear his answers to the not so important matters such as:
REPORTER-ETTE: “Obamessiah, who do you think should have control of Jeruselum?”
Obamessiah:“Well, it’s not for me to say; however I can promise that I will remove the formal dining room and put in a Kosher Falafel stand. Of course some of Mama’s chitlins, and collard greens to go with them. mmm mmm good.”
I’m sure Sean Connery’s more famous film character could offer some sound War on Terror advice.
purplepeep:
Thanks for the reminder, you’re right of course. The story of the innocent Tyesha should remind any and all, that there is a ruthless element out there, and it’s NOT us.
