Fight Their Smears: ABC News, Bob Beckel, Time, AP, Guardian, and NYT slime the Right
Time lies. The NYTimes slimes. AP distorts. ABC News, the Guardian, and the blithering Bob Beckel have all now piled on, too. They are at it again. Smearing conservative bloggers and talk radio. Because they think they can get away with it.
Like Barack Obama, the MSM has adopted the “Yes, we can!” mantra.
Oh, no, they can’t.
As I reported on Friday, the ogling Obamedia is spreading the lie that conservative bloggers and talk show host Rush Limbaugh are responsible for perpetuating the Michelle Obama videotape rumor, whose dubious provenance is far left Hillary shill and disgraced disinformation operative Larry Johnson. Over the weekend, ABC News attributed Johnson’s rumor to “conservative bloggers” without even the most cursory mention of Johnson’s role in lighting the fire on May 16–and no acknowledgment at all that many leading conservative bloggers have been deflating and debunking Johnson’s hype from the get-go. (Allahpundit counts five major MSM outlets, including ABC News, which have now omitted Johnson from stories about the reckless tape rumor.) Here’s the ABC News smear:
Google “Michelle Obama” and the term “whitey” and you’ll find conservative bloggers claiming a video shows her using the racially tinged term at Trinity Church. No tape has ever surfaced. But the claim helped prompt the Obama campaign to launch its own Web site, FighttheSmears.com.

In his Friday afternoon apology for smearing conservatives, Jay Carney is still blaming us for “picking up and spreading” the rumor–omitting the fact, and yes, I have to repeat it again, that many leading conservative bloggers have been debunking Johnson’s hype from the get-go.

And just when you think they can’t go any lower, along comes Bob Beckel. First, let’s review what he said in a heavy-breathing interview on Fox and Friends on June 3. I’ve taken the time to transcribe the exact moment when he launches into his hyped-up Michelle Obama rumor-mongering–which was not solicited or prompted by the hosts. Pay close attention:

BECKEL: Now, there is one other thing that I’ve gotta tell ya about which worries me a little bit. And that is because I always hear rumors, I hear thousands of them in the course of a presidential campaign, but this one I’ve heard from enough sources that it worries me.
I won’t get into details on what it is except to say that there is some thought that there might be a very big shoe dropping on Michelle Obama tomorrow.
CAMEROTA: Wait a minute…
BECKEL: …And that, yeah, I can’t tell you what it is because I don’t want to perpetuate the rumor. But I will tell you this. Whoever is promoting this thing is doing it in enough ways, in a very smart way, that it gets to me in ways that make me get worried about it…
CAMEROTA: Ok, but are you suggesting in that case that Hillary Clinton is sticking around to see what that shoe drop’ll be?
BECKEL: N-n-no, because I think, it’s, from my understanding it’s coming from the Republicans and they wanted to wait until he wrapped up the nomination. ‘Course, the stupidity of that is, if there’s anything to it, if there’s anything big like that, they can always turn to her to take the nomination…
CAMEROTA: …back to Michelle Obama, is it your understanding that this is bigger than, say, a college thesis paper.
BECKEL: Significantly.
DOOCY: Alright. Let’s just call you Bombshell Bob Beckel.
Twelve days later, no bombshell dropped. But Beckel was back on Fox News yesterday, mounting his high horse to blame conservative bloggers and Rush Limbaugh for spreading the rumor he shamelessly hyped. (Hat tip - reader Away2Play.) Beckel has the gall to claim that he was trying to “cut it off” rather than breathlessly flog it. Then he turns and sanctimoniously wags his finger at FNC host Bret Baier, admonishing him not to ask questions about rumors because it legitimizes rumors.
The poison icing on Beckel’s demagogic devil’s food cake?
Calling conservative bloggers and commentators “crackers and right-wingers.”
I’ve clipped and transcribed this astounding performance. Without further comment, because none is necessary when a petard is being hoist so grandly, here are the clip and transcript:

BAIER: FightTheSmears.com. Set up by the Barack Obama campaign. What about that, Bob? Do they need to do this kind of thing?
BECKEL: Well, I suppose they need to do it. But frankly, it requires voters to be civic-minded and go and check these things out. And I don’t think that many of them will. But look: The Internet has changed two things in politics substantially this year. One is money. And the other is how you deliver smears. And what has happened here, particularly against Barack Obama, whether it’s his middle name, whether it’s the fact that he’s black, purely racist and bigoted stuff that I get through my Internet mail, what’s happened is, it comes from these right-wing bloggers and then, the question is—and it gets picked up by right-wing radio talk show hosts—and then, the question is, does the mainstream media then begin to ask questions about it, which then legitimizes it, and that’s really the problem.
It’s people in your business, Bret, that have got to—you gotta not ask these questions—because what it does, when you do ask the question, it then lets the radio talk show hosts come back and say something. I got into a problem with Rush—
BAIER: I’ll say that’s a fine thing to say, however, let’s say that in this bushel of things that you get one that really is true?
BECKEL: If you’ve got some evidence, that’s fine. But these guys don’t have any evidence. This story that they ran about Michelle Obama, which by the way, I got in some trouble on by trying to cut it off and, and Rush Limbaugh got on the radio and said, ‘Well, Bob Beckel mentioned it’—I did not mention it. I said that there were smears coming around, one of them had to do with Barack Obama, and that gave Limbaugh the chance to say it all over again. Look, that is a not true story. You wouldn’t go with that story without some evidence…
BAIER: No, of course not. But my point is, is that they’ll paint a big brush here, and perhaps in the mix, there may be something a reporter may be afraid to go after, uh, that there would be some truth—
BECKEL: Well, I’ll tell ya what. Let these crackers and right-wingers prove it before they put it, before they come out…
Before they come out and what, Bombshell Bob? Before they come out and, oh, start braying on tee-vee about “very big shoes” dropping on “tomorrows” that never came?

During most of the Clinton White House years they were plagued by the Right Wing conspiracy. Perhaps the ghost, or derivative, of this conspiracy has claimed the Obie’s, baby mama and baby daddy, as its next subject matter. And just who is the mother of the Right Wing conspiracy. None other than jiHillary. Makes sense to me, she got three birds with one rumor. She nailed us red neck crackers, Right Wing bloggers, and the blow up doll. Even Beckel, professional sop that he is, see the victims of this conspiracy and has duly reported. jiHillary, LHAO!
Oh you mean like not asking questions about the phony Rathergate documents or perhaps the Fauxtography scnadals. Yea I bet Boobshell Bob would have loved it if none of that had come to light. What a hypocrite. Maybe if he had asked questions and done some checking he would not have made such a boob out of himself by hyping up a phony rumor.
I don’t even bother watching the news anymore; prefering the internet. It’s usually 20 minutes of commericals, 20 minutes of commentary, 15 minutes of news I can’t use like “informercials” on actors and authors, and 5 minutes of something worthwhile. After an hour, I have everything I need, while a tv watcher is still trying to “wade through” the propaganda.

Have no fear though, smears and cries of victimhood really will dominate this campaign. At least they do have a common cause though.
Fear not victims, the unwitting and unwilling American taxpayer will have his hard work and financial rewards stricken down and taken so that the victims can be justly and duly compensated for their lack of achievement and their position in society.

The evidence above adds to the reasons why I have called them democraps for years. Since the Ronald Reagan - Sam Donaldson encounters back in the 80’s, the media (democrap water carriers) have tried this stunt. It didn’t work then, it won’t work now. It illustrates their hate and their desperation. God help them.
I saw Bob Beckel’s shameful performance where first he hyped the rumor. I could not help but wonder at the time, why was he giving it so much credence and almost promoting it?
And then, how could he blame conservatives for this rumor after he himself had promoted it so forcefully?
The answer of course is that for leftists, the end justifies the means. A lie is just another tool in the toolbox, to be used whenever they think it effective. There are no penalties for leftists for lying - in fact they praise and admire skillful liars for their ability to confuse and misdirect, witness BJ “I did not have sex with that woman” Clinton…
Because Bob “SUPERDELEGATE” Beckel is in bed with the far lefties and the MSM, that’s how. Nobody but us conservatives will call him on it, which means it will stay here and never make the news.
I watched and listened to this Fox show last night. Beckel must think that no one pays attention to what’s going on around them or listens to what he and the other left wing propogandist spew. I hope every voter sees Obama for the empty shell he is. If people would just listen to what he is “not” saying they would realize he has nothing of substance to say. Also, as an older southern conservative I find the term “cracker” to be as derogatory as some other terms that are no longer in use.
The only person that thinks Bob Beckel says anything that deals in reality is Bob Beckel. The guy lives in a fantasy world and you can tell he really thinks highly of himself. He’s just another lib mouthpiece that spews garbage. Its pathological how these folks operate on a daily basis.

7. Calls by the left to sanction all condervative on-air personalities as their comments support Republicans only

I really wish someone could find the time that also had the money to sue these jackasses in the MSM for libel and slander and hurt them in the pocket book, but I believe even this set of outrageous lies may be protected by the 1st Amendment. Incredibly, The Times has assigned a team of four investigative reporters to a permanent investigation of McCain. No reporters have been assigned by the Times to investigate Obama. Admittedly, I did report this rumor on my blog - but I reported it as just that, a rumor and I linked to NoQuarter.com where it came from.
It’s unbelievable to me that Bob Beckel of all people would now try to blame conservative bloggers when he is the one who reported this on national television! It’s also sooo like Larry Johnson not to man up and admit that it was HE who started the rumor - even though he blamed it on Hillbuzz.
When I was researching the story for my blog I found totally circular references between NoQuarter and Hillbuzz - each claiming the other as the source - both indicating they’d talked to people who had heard the tape.
What’s really hilarious, in an infuriating sort of way, is Beckel’s co-authorship with conservative Cal Thomas of a book titled: “Common Ground: How to Stop the Partisan War that is Destroying America”.
After this I imagine the book will wind up being pulped and recycled into egg cartons or the like.
Meanwhile over at AOL they have an article about some predictable leftist historians/Dem party activists saying McCain is going to get creamed in the election.
AOL accompanies their piece with 500 political photos, more than 90% of which are of Obama, his family and supporters.
But heh: in a a poll attracting more than 650,000 respondents, AOL subscribers are giving the election to McCain by a margin of 46 to 43%, while voting for him 50 to 41%.
Yeah, it’s an unscientific sample, but so is one consisting of a handful of leftist perfessers (who famously predicted on AOL Kerry’s landslide back in 2004).

Some may not be aware that they essentially accept pretty much everything Marx taught, but when the single biggest difference between Republicans and Dems is regular attendance of religious services (and even among ethnic minorities who lean heavily Democrat, like Jews and African-Americans, the religious are more likely to vote Republican than the non-religious), people who don’t believe in a higher authority will tend to not be contrained by morals in advancing an agenda.
BREAKING NEWS: White community in uproar after being labeled “CRACKERS”
All across America, the white community is trying to quell the pain and anger they are feeling after a prominent Fox News commentator called them “crackers.”
It all started when democrat strategist, and Fox News contributer, Bob (Dick Morris look alike) Beckel referred to those who are pigment challenged as “crackers.”
Beckel, a “cracker” himself has not responded to the grass roots outrage over what some say is being called the new “N” word.
Someone close to the white community, actually myself, can speak to the epidemic like anger spreading virally all across America’s white neighborhoods.
Most notable effected are the lower income white women and children who feel they have been stigmatized and worse.
No word on whether Beckel will have to answer to the community as a whole. Anyone of his size can pretty much say anything. Even if that means offending a majority W.A.S.P. nation.
UPDATE: Conservative bloggers have mounted a movement to have Beckel removed from position as a Fox News contributer.
If Beckel doesn’t apologize to “whitey” one conservative blogger said, then he should be yanked off they air.
Asked if he was afraid such a move would set a new precedent of censorship, the blogger responded, “How would you like to be called a “cracker?”
Being I am a “cracker” I could only speculate as to what he meant.
Needless to say, “whitey” this evening are a “bitter” bunch of “crackers.”
Keep fighting for your principles and stand up for them…remember you are fighting for ideals, not for the next politician’s power trip. If any politician thinks like they can use you and then throw you under the bus- cut them off, shake the dust off your birkenstocks and move on

The reason the rumor had any legs was, that it fits Michelle Obama’s victimization/greivance mongering, plus all their racist associations.
Although the story may not be documented, it prob’ly has some basis in fact…I wouldn’t be shocked at all.

Tumulty, at least, notes “Jim Geraghty of National Review Online, a conservative who has been one of the leaders in debunking the rumor…” and cites his writing on the topic and how it “was picked up on the other side of the ideological divide* by Greg Sargent and Eric Kleefeld…”

Its really great to know that the folks at ABC can pry their lips off the Obamessiah’s wife’s ass long enough to publish smears of their own. Guess if you’re going to lie, might as well go for the Big Lie.
That rumor was started by liberal blogger and Hillary fan David Johnson. Five minutes of research proves it. Many conservative bloggers refused to believe it, and said so from the beginning. ABC’s blanket condemnation of conservatives here proves that it can smear right along with the best.
Every time I think my contempt for the MSM in general, and ABC in particular, cannot be expanded you do something to prove me wrong. This story exhibits a complete abdication of journalistic integrity and responsibility, and a willingness to prostitute the profession and the truth in the service of crass political agendas. Everyone involved or responsible should be ashamed.
These are some of the same smear liars that double-spoke the Democratis campaigns Willie Horton smear.
This issue is just more reason why rational people should avoid membership in the Democrat Party. For the life of me, I cannot think of one positive aspect of DP membership.

They talk about the saving and preserving the environment, while raping it, yet point fingers at others first. They talk about security, but are the party whose leaders talk with tyrants. They talk about the lack of adequate education, a system they have controlled for over forty years. They talk about equality, and are the first to point out that a person is black, female, a victim of the system (they controlled for how long?), rich, poor, you name it. They talk about race relations, but voted whole-heartedly against the Equal Rights Amendment, and they have the nerve to call conservatives “racists.”
This is the Party of Oral Partisanship…P.O.O.P. All they can do is talk, and when nothing gets done, they create an opportunity to do what? Yes, that’s right! Talk about Republican villiany!
How many years will we have to keep hearing the same old story, with new packaging? With all the “social programs” instituted by liberals the last four or five decades, we should have had all those “problems” fixed by now. Nearly as unpopular? Last time I looked, the popularity of the Democrat Congress was lower than the president’s.
