Minnesota Muslim oppressed by pants
Fatuma Hassan has just enough rice in her near-empty cupboards to make it through the month. The anger she felt when she lost her job in May has given way to a dull, nagging hunger.
Yet this soft-spoken 22-year-old became an unlikely hero within the Somali community when she and five of her Muslim co-workers were dismissed last month from the Mission Foods tortilla factory in New Brighton, Minn., for refusing to wear a new company uniform — a shirt and pants — they consider a violation of their Islamic beliefs.
“For me, wearing pants is the same as being naked,” Hassan said, noting the prophet Mohammed taught that men and women should not dress alike. “My culture, my religious beliefs, are more important than a uniform.”
There’s actually quite a litigious Somali subculture in Minnesota, as we’ve observed with the Minneapolis airport taxi-driver disputes. And then there was that TIZA thing last month. True to form, CAIR has picked this up, and will sue Mission foods on their behalf.
So Mission can either continue to ban unsafe, loose-fitting, but culturally sensitive clothing and be sued and slandered by CAIR, or they can give in and take a hit from a personal-injury lawyer when a burqa-clad employee gets tangled up in an industrial tortilla press. Tough decision.
The article goes on to discuss issues of immigration and assimilation, and the pressure Somalis feel to avoid the latter. Don’t become Americanized, they are told at home.
It looks like the indoctrination’s working, and with CAIR’s help they’re trying to Somalize Minnesota instead.
Meanwhile you’ll be relieved to know that California’s governmental code specifically memorializes workers’ rights to wear pants to work, regardless of their sex.

I’ve seen what happens when loose clothing/long hair gets caught in machinery. It’s not pretty. I hope Mission stands its ground here. Don’t like our country and don’t want to assimilate, go back to Somalia and enjoy.
For once the Muslims have… not my sympathy, but my empathy. I’m a Pentecostal female, you see, and I don’t wear pants either- to work, school, church, grocery store…etc. It goes against my beliefs. So, I can see where they’re coming from. Unfortunately, if I was to make the same stand at Mission or any other job for that matter, CAIR wouldn’t ride to my rescue.

I agree with Cicero. Find a job that allows dresses, and that won’t be an endangerment. Why is it now, that people think “I don’t have to change, the world has to change for me.” It’s a “me in the center of the universe” attitude, and, of course, they are backed up by lawyers, sympathic news agencies and political associations all willing to help because of the money to be made. The way things are going in some states, it won’t be long before we have the legal right to work, butt naked.
I had a job working for Wendys once.
Every been to Wendys? The uniform sucks. The colors are hideous. I’m not a small person and I did not have a well-defined waist at that time, but I was forced to wear my uniform tops tucked into my waistband due to company policy (safety issues).
Eight hours a day I stood in front of the public, waiting on customers while wearing a bright yellow shirt that clashed severly with my bright red hair and looking like an oversized puffball. It was humiliating.
The shirts that I was given to wear by the management had been worn by many workers before me, and were permanantly grease-stained. I’m a very clean, neat person and the dirty shirts reflected poorly on my character.
But guess what? I wore them, and went to work anyway. Because feeding my family is more important than looking good.
Anyone know if this woman will be allowed to collect welfare or food stamps in the interim?
Is there a religion that bans wearing suits and ties? Just saying, some days the tie is a pain in the….

My grandfather was a 1st generation American, his parents were Greek immigrants.

If she has children, she may be eligible for TANF (another word for welfare) for 6 months. She may be eligible for food stamps either way. She could always go to her local food bank.
She is probably not eligible for unemployment, however, because she was was fired for non compliance with company regulations.
I have no pity for her. She can get a job at some daycare and wear her tent there.

The complete incompatibility between Muslims and America, once again surfaces for all to see. The simple truth is these people are using our laws against us to create havoc. They can sue and take their money and use it against the USA, which gave them oppurtunity they did not have in their home country. When I travel to Islamic countries, there are hundreds of friggin rules you have to follow to keep from going to jail or getting your butt kicked out of the country. When I was in Saudi Arabia we could only jog and exercise at night and in special areas so nobody would see us in our pt gear, mainly our shorts. OH HORROR OF HORRORS! I had a Somali coworker a few years back. Her family had come to the U.S. when she was six to avoid the war. She spoke wonderful English and acted like a “normal” American young lady (she was 18-19 when I knew her). There was great pressure on her from her brothers to dress more like a Muslim woman and to act more “Muslim.” The longer I knew her the more parts of her body she covered.
To the best I could figure she pretty much hated America. When 9-11 occurred she let slip that “America had gotten what it deserved,” that “like Rome, America won’t last forever.” And I knew that she was just parroting things that she heard in her community.
She resented America getting involved in the war in Somalia, even though we were there to end the fighting that she and her family had fled. She wanted to have Democracy in “her country” but wouldn’t want Christians to be able to vote. She said that she believed in free speech but that if I went to Somalia that I would be killed and she was okay with that.
She had a Somali friend who worked with us for a while who had been in the U.S. even longer. She told me that if she when back “home,” since her father’s tribe was on one side of the conflict and her mother’s was on the other, that she would have to join on her father’s tribe’s side and fight against her mom’s family.
These young ladies had lived in the U.S. for most of their lives. They had taken advantage of the education system and any other system that would serve them, they knew American History and knew their rights back and forth, but they never became true Americans (even though I believe one became a citizen). And they never intended to.
Safe work practices have nothing to do with religion. Loose clothing and long hair are dangerous near moving machinery. The laws of physics have nothing to do with the Koran.
If Mission can find alternate positions for these Muslims, fine, but the company cannot compromise on safety. Should there be an accident, OSHA and the Minnesota Office of Safety will be all over Mission.
These Muslims are forgetting the golden rule, “he who has the gold makes the rules.” If the Muslims can’t accept the fact that they have to follow the rules, then they have to find other jobs.
My Question is this:
If said muslim does get caught in a tortilla press or is sucked thru a grinder because of her loose fitting garb for her dress code as per PedMo….
Will she be halal if she is inadvertently entered into the ‘food mix’?

An excellent example of where multiculturalism fails. When there is an inherent disrespect for the successful, generous, and benevolent American culture built into every HR handbook, then eventually the economy will fail and the 7th Century psycho-cultists will take over our country.
When we have to have multiculturalism shoved down our throats and can’t give a spirited FUA to anyone who insults our country without being fired, sued, and maybe prosecuted for thought crimes, then I fear we may have lost this battle already.

Sometimes I feel like I was such a sucker, particularly in my youth.
Years ago, as a poor college student (my father died when I was a child, so I was putting myself through school), I went a-looking for a job. Got an interview — but then discovered the job required me to work Sundays. What to do? My faith is very against working on Sundays. I said, “Thanks, but …” and kept a-looking. That’s just the way we did things back in the America of my (not-so-long-past) youth. Silly me, I didn’t know it was all about ME and I was supposed to sue and force the employer to accommodate me.
The story has a happy ending. I walked away from that job offer and applied elsewhere. I ended up with an offer from a company that wasn’t in business on Sundays — and paid more to boot. Even better, my new boss even allowed me to do school work when we weren’t busy. Maybe it was just luck, but I like to think it was God’s reward for following my convictions.
Then GTFO! If you don’t want to assimilate, you don’t belong here, and you’re not needed here.

I work at home to allow myself to wear shorts and T-Shirts at the office. If I want a real job then I must go with the dress standard. I am chuckling to myself imagining a Muslim working at Hot-Dog-On-A-Stick. As far as the pants go I think that the Muslims have worked out a kind of carbon-offset deal with Hillary, she wears enough pants to offset at least 10 muslim’s a day.

I kind of doubt the story that she has nothing to eat. In my opinion, she probably already went on welfare or unemployment. The Somalies in Maine come there and go straight to the welfare office, apply, get welfare and subsidized housing. They usually come from other states and they tell each other of how good the benefits are in Maine. So they all flock there. So, this pathetic excuse for a woman should be forced to go back to Somalia, since she is abusing the hospitality of this country. I am so sick and tired of these new types of immigrants who only use this country and refuse to contribute or become Americans.

Often uniform design stems from safety issues. I hope we haven’t become a country of businesses that will toss aside safety issues in favor of whiners.

I agree on the American Muslims part. They cannot be deported.
However, there are alien Muslims here, and I would like to see them go, and that we ban future Muslim immigration.
The only way we could do this is if we establish that Islam is a totalitarian ideology masquerading as a religion, which is not that difficult.
Islam is incompatible with free western societies. Like water and oil, the two will not mix. We had better realize that and work towards banning Muslim immigration before we end up like Europe.
If I owned a relatively small private manufacturing company in this situation, this is what I’d do:
I would call a meeting of ALL staff on a Friday afternoon. I would explain that a couple of employees, because of their muslim faith, will not wear safety uniforms, and if the company forces the issue it will be sued by CAIR, however if the company lets it slide and one of them has an accident, the company will be sued by OSHA.
I would then advise the gathered employees that in order to avoid costly litigation which could generate a great deal of personal liability to the owners as well as meaning the end of the company, we have decided to cut our possible losses and shut down operations immediately and sell the company.
I would then announce that you are now all out of a job effective immediately because of this one issue. Thank you, and those of you wearing a uniform please leave it at the door on your way out.
Now watch them deal to CAIR and the few muslim employees responsible for making them all unemployed.
On Monday morning, I’d transfer the company ownership to a new partnership name, and reopen the business and start hiring new employees as a new legal entity, and guess who I wouldn’t be hiring and what would be in the employment contract…
…or just deal with it the old-fashioned ‘Chicago’ way – with a couple of hard-hitting boys and their baseball bats.
One can’t help but notice that gratitude is not a Muslim virtue. We help Somalis escape a dire situation and they have nothing but contempt for us. We made the Saudis rich and they preach hate against and send suicide jihadis to kill us.
They’re playing us for fools. Muslims do not cooperate. Their culture leads them to take advantage of each other and anyone else to the maximum. This is one of the reasons they are losers. Their dysfunctional individual relationships scale up into societal dysfunction and failure.
I wonder if CAIR is planning on sueing the local strip clubs for not accomidating burkas there as well?
Why couldn’t Fatuma Hassan wear her shirt and pants over her burqa? It might be a little warm but she wouldn’t feel naked and she would be in keeping with the spirit of the law regarding her religion by still wearing her required burqa. Of course, the extra bulk might cause some to call Fatuma fat, but she could then sue them for Harassing Hassan.
I find burkas highly offensive, and cannot believe that America, with the freedoms that it fought so hard for, allows this kind of degradation and subservience to occur on American soil. Any muslim male in America who subjugates his wife or daughter to this disgusting treatment should be jailed or deported. THIS IS AMERICA. A-M-E-R-I-C-A. THIS IS NOT A mUSLIM OUTPOST! Grow some balls people, when you see one of these victims on the street, express your sincere regret that she is made to suffer, and if she is with her husband / father, tell him exactly what you think of him and his barbaric treatment of women, and that he is not welcome in this country.
I can’t believe some of the things I find myself saying lately. A few years ago, I would never dream of holding such feelings against someone because of their religion – it would actually disgust me – but I am SICK of the crap that we in America are forced into every damn day by ungrateful self-centered zealots who would never ever give the same respect were the situation reversed – instead they would decapitate you just because you’re not one of them. You feel the same way that many Americans feel. The ingrates need to go, those who want to assimilate into American society are welcome to do so. These women with their families need to be provided with a berth on a slow ship to somalia and dropped at the beach. Problem solved. They can then wear whatever they like.
This all tells me exactly how the world views the U.S., right now. It’s a place where you can go and get all the “freebies” you want, and if you don’t get enough, there is always someone there to help you get more. It also tells me that people view the U.S. full of weak citizens and governments, without a culture of their own. The streets are really “paved with gold”. Free gold.
