Tuesday morning open thread

By Michelle Malkin  •  June 17, 2008 07:05 AM

I’ll be on Fox and Friends this morning to talk about unscrupulous Democrat borrowers, Countrywide, and gas. Scheduled to appear at around 8:15am. (Update: Allah posted the video at Hot Air.)

Speaking of gas, Bombshell Bob Beckel is supposed to be on as well–though we’re not scheduled to talk about his smears of conservatives. Don’t worry: I’ll stay on cracker patrol.

What’s on your minds?

“One of the causes for the Western media to lavish overpraises onto Obama is owed to his (skin) color, and the other cause is the change that he may bring to American society.”

I was pondering how liberals think. Take shirley jackson for instance, the first female, black president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. She gives a speech on how the US is in dire need of scientists and engineers but instead of focusing on recruiting students of the highest caliber she panders to ethnic minorities in the inner city of St. Louis. Other prominent members of the caucus also expressed misgivings about the XM-Sirius plan. Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.), a former chairman of the caucus, said yesterday that he was “extremely upset” about the proposed deal and that he would speak to his colleagues about taking action to stop the merger — perhaps legislative action — unless the percentage is increased.

“It’s shocking to the conscience in this day and age, where the minority populations comprise a significant part of the satellite radio audience, that Mr. Martin would settle for what I deem to be crumbs that have fallen off the table,” Cummings said. “We can do much better. I am hoping that this can be revisited.”

This is extortion pure and simple. But I guess you can get away with it in a gerrymandered district.

OldSailor88 and Die Hippie, Die I have to agree that it does sound like a Reverend (I use the term loosely) Jackson or Sharpton shake down in the making. I also have always wondered why there is not a Congressional White Caucus too. Or does this thought make me a racist again? I can never tell when my thought processes get me in trouble with the “Thought Police.” ;)

My biggest gripe of the day is about the inflated cost of fuel, which in turn has driven inflation to the point that I am now helping out my sister-in-law by diverting our households shrinking disposable income by paying some of her bills to provide the basics (food, shelter, clothing, and energy requirements) for her, her daughter (single mom) and granddaughter living with her. Since I am the one her sisters turn to for financial help and guidance after their parents passed away a few years ago (it does suck being the responsible one sometimes), but I could no more turn my back on my wife’s family or my own should they need anything.

My niece was laid off a few months ago when increased costs started to hit our small community pretty hard. Even being a military town when things get tight people decrease their spending and small businesses go belly up. At the rate costs have gone up they will not be able to afford to keep warm this winter and I have a feeling we will be looking at 3 additional souls under our roof so they can survive the winter unless my niece can find a job in the next couple of months. She is determined to find work and walks 2 miles (one way) to the local jobs center every business day to see what is out there (which ain’t much). The sad thing is this is starting to have a pretty hard ripple effect on many families just barely scraping out a living in our local community and if the do nothing Congress keeps up their complicity of playing politics with peoples lives it is not going to end well for any of them. People are getting angry here and it won’t take much to push them over the edge should the price of fuel and other essentials keep climbing as they try to pin the blame on President Bush.

My 2 cents for what ever its worth!

I was pondering how liberals think. Take shirley jackson for instance, the first female, black president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. Go figure these liberals…

truth buried? No one I know is even that blind to the issue…. how one derives a total break down of opportunity imagined out of a short piece of interview is beyond me. I would even go so far as to suspect a lack of basic intellect. If one took the time to view the interview I would guess they were well aware of the issue of Beckel’s hypocrisy.

Yes, I did my grad work there. Upon visiting there last week for a conference I was able to juxtapose George Low’s Presidential Medal of Freedom awarded by Reagan on the same day Bush awarded his to the liberal deconstructionists. There was some other science medal awarded to Low by Barry Goldwater as well. It was a solemn moment I had with myself realizing how much things have changed.
