Not that we need to watch The View to predict the softball questions they’ll ask. Here, I will save you the time:
Whoopi (furrowed brow, concerned tone): How do you deal with all the negativity?
Michelle: It’s hard. It’s hard. But I’m so proud. Proud of how I–we, Barack and I, and our children–have handled the stress. We’ve made sacrifices. But this is not about me–us. This is about the souls of America. I am a patriot. I love this country.
Joy: But how do you balance the work and the family? How do you balance it all?
Michelle: It’s hard. It’s hard. But I’m so proud of how we’ve managed to balance and sacrifice. Sacrifice.

Sherri: Ok. Tough question now: Where did you get those pearls?

Ok. I’m tuning in. She’s just done the fist bump with all the yammerers. Walters is reading from the NYTimes and asking about the attacks on her.
So I got the questioner wrong, but I got the question right. And the answer: Michelle says she is patriotic and that she takes the attacks in stride:
“I am proud of my country, without a doubt.”
Walters perpetuates the Michelle Obama-as-GOP victim meme. Of course.
Blah-blah. Diversity pabulum. Obama: “People aren’t used to strong women.”
Who is she talking about?

Sherri: “Did you say pathetic?” Tittering.

Ding. I called it again: Michelle talking about her “sacrifices.”
Barack doesn’t take out the garbage anymore.

Back after a break. Matthew Broderick comes on. His son is an Obama fan. “He really follows the election and he really takes to your husband.”
Michelle: “You know, kids are drawn to Barack. I think it’s because his name is easy to say.”
I can’t really take much more of this.

The Democrats have now produced the finest example of pull-yourself-up-by-the-bootstrap that America can possibly offer, who is a sterling model of family values, and it’s not good enough.

I didn’t ask Michelle Obama to enter the campaign; she’s the one making speeches. If she is under scrutiny, it’s in part because independent voters are trying to figure out, to paraphrase Churchill, the riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma that is that agent of change we can believe in, her hubby.
I predict that, once the unwrapping has been completed, it will be found there’s nothing much there other than very conventional big-government liberalism.
For that we will be able to thank Ms. Obama for her contribution.
Oh, gag me! I could not bring myself to watch the dribble on the view. MO is trying everything to change her image; humble roots, activism, etc, etc… She should try being honest and stop playing that victim card. Why did she sit in THAT church for 20 years? It didn’t make her or BO more spiritual. Oh and guess what, many of us had humble beginnings, are activists and ARE Truely Proud of this country. Its hard not to be personal when you are talking about a person. It is not an attack when you disagree with someone’s point of view or assertions.
Michelle Obama opened herself up to scrutiny when she campaigned for her husband. It comes with the territory.
Overtly, I have nothing personal against her. I disagree with her ideology, opinion of my country and superior attitude. She does not have to care about my opinions. That makes us equals.

You nailed it unwittingly. They live in the greatest nation on earth, they both graduated from prestigious universities and they have benefited in so many ways from it . But they are not proud of their nation, or at least not until the run for office. They complain about how hard it is to raise two kids on $480,000 a year, but have no qualms about advocating a plan to tax everybody who makes $70,000 a year, or $120,000 for a family.
I don’t seem to remember hearing anybody say anything about the values or morals of the Obama’s. I personally don’t like the hypocrisy of benefiting from the opportunity this nation offers and then offering to fix it with change and hope that is just a rehash of the Marxist ideas and ideals. Ideas and ideals that have failed every time and every place they have been tried. Ideas and ideals that have resulted in the oppression and death of millions of people around the world. Remember the iron curtain? That was to keep them in, not to keep us out. By definition free nations let you out anytime you want; only socialist nations build walls to prevent escape. So that is the change we can believe in from the Obama’s? I hope not.

Barack had an unwed teen mother and absentee father. What silver spoon do you speak of? His grandparents made a comfortable enough living to put Barack in good schools, but I haven’t seen any evidence of wealth. It’s not like they had Bush or Kennedy money…..not even close. He wasn’t a “rich” kid growing up. I’m not saying Barack was poor and struggling but certainly not loaded. I just don’t get the silver spoon tag, and I think it’s mislabeling and re-inventing history.
Look at the blog post Addled about McCain. It differs from the post about Michelle Obama in three ways:
1. The McCain post is true.
2. It’s about the candidate, not the spouse.
3. It’s about policy, not hair color.
Based on what I have read Englishqueen, Cindy McCain will indeed be on The View in the coming weeks.
I don’t understand how Obama is “pull-yourself-up-by-the-bootstrap” material.
After his dad left, Obama’s mom married a guy that worked for the Indonesian government and then for and Ameircan Oil Company, the were not poor.
He went to private schools overseas and prep school in America while he lived with his white grandparents in Hawaii.
He then went to college (don’t know who paid) and into the business world and then more college.
How is this “the finest example of pull-yourself-up-by-the-bootstrap that America can possibly offer”? He did not “pull himself up,” he was lifted up by others (including his famously racist white grandmother).
He got into the Illinois Senate by getting his opponents disqualified, he got into the U.S. Senate because his opponent was caught in a scandal and now he’s a presidential candidate because of the color of his skin.
There are certainly many, many more compelling rags-to-riches stories in Congress. Heck, even Bill Clinton’s story is a bit more impressive.
Don’t buy into the hype. The guy grew up in a middle-class home and made it into the upper-class. It happens all the time in America.
P.S. If you want a compelling story of a Black man rising from obscurity in the racist South to a position of power and prominence you might check out Clarence Thomas’s wikipedia article. But, of course, he’s not seen as a role-model by the left, he’s seen as a pariah, just as Obama would be if he had grown up to be a conservative.

Several exceptions to this preposterous statement were already given (how did Halle Berry and Tyra Banks not make that list, by the way?). However, why does it matter? Isn’t it all about substance? If we were obsessing over their looks or only putting pretty black women on TV, wouldn’t that be an issue as well?
I wish that I had had to pull myself up by such bootstraps. My life would be a heluva lot easier.

BTW, Obama is far, far from a child of privelege. Solidly middle class. Also, Justice Thomas was in fact admitted to both college and law school as part of affirmative action programs and remains bitter about that fact to this day.

According to Thomas himself (as written in his book) “I asked Yale to take that fact (his race) into account when I applied.”
Further, Thomas has frequently attributed his own negative post-collegiate experiences in the work force to affirmative action — and cites them as the root of his opposition to the program.
Perhaps Obama didn’t experience the difficulty after graduation that Mr. Thomas did because he graduated with honors and was president of the law review (a position he was granted thanks to his grades and how he fared in a writing competition). The reasons for his admission to both institutions may be arguable (at least among those who comment here, who seem incapable of believing — or wanting to believe — it anything but the result of affirmative action) but his successes while at both Columbia and Harvard Law are fairly indisputable.
MSM Bias?! Nah. Isn’t Cindy McCain scheduled to “Guest Host” with those yentas on Friday?!
