Bitter half alert: Michelle Obama’s makeover and View debut; Update: “It’s fun to look pretty!;” Pantyhose or no pantyhose?; “Empathetic,” not “pathetic”

She’s baaaaaaack. On the front page of the NYTimes. On The View at 11:00am Eastern with Barbara Walter’s gabbling gals.
But don’t you dare breathe a negative word about anything she says, you hear?
You racists! You mean, wife-beating conservative Thuglicans!
Not that we need to watch The View to predict the softball questions they’ll ask. Here, I will save you the time:
Whoopi (furrowed brow, concerned tone): How do you deal with all the negativity?
Michelle: It’s hard. It’s hard. But I’m so proud. Proud of how I–we, Barack and I, and our children–have handled the stress. We’ve made sacrifices. But this is not about me–us. This is about the souls of America. I am a patriot. I love this country.
Joy: But how do you balance the work and the family? How do you balance it all?
Michelle: It’s hard. It’s hard. But I’m so proud of how we’ve managed to balance and sacrifice. Sacrifice.
Entire View table: Mmmmm.
Sherri: Ok. Tough question now: Where did you get those pearls?

Ok. I’m tuning in. She’s just done the fist bump with all the yammerers. Walters is reading from the NYTimes and asking about the attacks on her.
So I got the questioner wrong, but I got the question right. And the answer: Michelle says she is patriotic and that she takes the attacks in stride:
“I am proud of my country, without a doubt.”
Walters perpetuates the Michelle Obama-as-GOP victim meme. Of course.
Blah-blah. Diversity pabulum. Obama: “People aren’t used to strong women.”
Who is she talking about?
Whoopi is so excited she knocked her coffee mug over and spilled on herself.
At least she’s not ogling or weeping yet.
11:17am. Back from a break. Did I call it again or what?
Sherri gushes over Michelle’s sleeveless dress and toned arms. Sherri: “You look gorgeous!”
Michelle: “It’s fun to look pretty!”
Whoopi claims TV only shows ugly black woman and she thanks Michelle for being a pretty black woman.
I’m not kidding.
Walters grills Michelle about…pantyhose.
Michelle’s against pantyhose.
Whoopi slavers over Barack’s Father’s Day speech.
Walters: Did you want Barack to be president?
No. “Politics is mean…Obama was sweet, “empathetic.”
Sherri: “Did you say pathetic?” Tittering.
Yeah, I was tittering, too.
Ding. I called it again: Michelle talking about her “sacrifices.”
Barack doesn’t take out the garbage anymore.
Boo-hoo.
Back after a break. Matthew Broderick comes on. His son is an Obama fan. “He really follows the election and he really takes to your husband.”
Michelle: “You know, kids are drawn to Barack. I think it’s because his name is easy to say.”
I can’t really take much more of this.
11:45am Eastern. Discussion is about Las Vegas. Michelle Obama’s mom has won $17,000 playing slots.

Well, if Whoopi is talking about herself, then yes, she’s right. There are lots of pretty black women on tv – Whoopi just isnt one of them.
But I’m thinking about what’s inside of Whoopi and Madame Obama that makes them ugly.

I actually don’t think Obama’s situation applies. If you go back and look at my “baby killing” “list”, nothing was stated concerning unwed mothers or absentee fathers. If however, B.O.B was aborted, maybe things would be better, or maybe worse. I don’t know and don’t care, how fate would have treated this world. I deal with reality. He’s here, and he’ll get my vote. Go save the “babies” somewhere else and quit sweating me so hard.

Spoken like someone who really needs to look in his own mirror. Where is your proof? Or is it just your “lawyer instinct” at work?
You really need to look into your own mirror. For someone who wants us to take Obummer or his wife seriously, your shrill, less than flattering remarks really do you credit. For someone who thinks herself a lawyer, the endless, immature petting of your candidate turns us all off.
For someone who is an intelligent, professional woman, your posts indicate someone who is frustrated, angry, and not possessing anything resembling literacy or basic paragraph structure. I’ve seen better from my 8th grade students. Oh, yes, if possessing both a college and graduate education is “illiterate” then perhaps your legal qualifications need to be reconsidered.
I’ll pass on some advice that I once received from dakine, “you assume way too much.” It is pretty pathetic that for one who accuses me of being illiterate, the attack itself is contained in one continuous passage that really doesn’t address any of my points. Also, since 9/11 was a big deal to most in this country, the fact that Pres. Bush has done his upmost to protect the country means a lot. You seem to be discounting what, to many of us, is a major accomplishment.
If you have black 8th grade students, you should seek another assignment. Your anti-black bias, and generalizing won’t do them any favors, and they deserve better.
If you comment on my posts in a way that show that you didn’t read them, I’ll assume you have problems reading, despite your degrees. I don’t always follow perfect paragraph structure here because it’s an effing blog, and I’m often busy. In that way, I’m like plenty of rapid posters here, so you know what you can do with you perfect paragraph structure teacher.
If you think I endlessly, “pet” Obamma, then you are either a liar, or you’re ignorant to my numerous posts criticizing him and sometimes calling him the “lesser of two evils”.

Where in the heck did that come from? I failed to find any anti-black bias from emjem24 in this thread. Are you referring to some other thread or did I just miss it?
Saying that a person has an “anti-black bias” strikes me as being either a cowardly way of accusing them of being a racist or polite way of accusing them of being a racist. Which is it MisstressJ?
I have no idea whether or not Emjem is a racist. I think she has an anti-black bias because she makes the effort to bring blacks into a discussion where it isn’t relevant such as in #181. She made the bizarre choice to play the race card instead of simply addressing me as a human being with opinions. In the past, she has stated thing like “Blacks as a whole decided…..”, like we are some monolithic, mindless group. She constantly generalizes. She has a chip on her shoulder based on her experiences teaching black children and dealing with their families, which I believe has resulted in an anti-black bias. No poster brings up black people more than emjem. These are my opinions, and I don’t know her private life, but I have based my opinions on her posts.
She said she doesn’t wear pantyhose anymore because she is 5′11″, none of them fit and they “hurt”. Truth is, it’s easy to get pantyhose for tall girls. It’s another way to play the victim.
This is a hoot. Talk about mental incapabilty. I love black people always have. I dated a black girl who’s now attending Harvard Law, and she’s nothing like you. Your whole attitude centers around grievance. Does this make me an authority because I’ve dated minority women? Not really. Based on experience I know what I’m looking at MJ.
