While Mrs. Obama was trying to change her image on the View, Mrs. McCain was trying to improve the world with her charity work in Viet Nam. I don't see how anyone would choose Mrs. Obama over Mrs. McCain for First Lady.

On June 19th, 2008 at 10:32 am, longbow said:
Not that I’m endorsing McVain, but - this is funny:

A German alternative newspaper wondered why the Americans would even hold an election based on the following rationale:

“We in Germany cannot figure out why you are even bothering to hold an election.

On one side, you have a b–ch (Hillary) who is a lawyer, married to a lawyer.

Alternatively, you have a lawyer (Obama) who is married to a b–ch, who is also a lawyer.

On the other side, you have a war hero (McCain) who is married to a good looking woman, who owns a beer company.

Where is the contest here?”

Where, indeed? - according to the men in my family! :D

michelle obama is flat out scary. She is so priviledged but acts like a victim and then tries to make everyone else out like a victim so they console themselves together. It's actually pretty sickening to watch.

Deep down, I do not feel obama will win. His wife sure doesn't help him. I still think we have many Americans that aren't the poor me type which isn't how this great land was founded upon.

It's too bad that the conservatives don't push harder to get our schools straight. It is here where our children are learning victimhood and it takes them a long time to overcome it and that only happens IF they recognize it and possibly have a strong figure in their life to show them hope and how they can create it for themselves.

While we are on the subject of First Wives, I'm interested in fellow commenters reaction to today's CNN article in which Mrs. McCain said this:

"I do not think that spouses and family members ... are fair game," she told CNN's John King.

"There has to be some decorum left in politics and in American journalism as well. Our husbands are the candidates," she said.

Wow. Does anyone else here think that the wives should be off limits? I'm interested in knowing.

This is why it's SO incredibly important that we actually look into the information that we read.

The writer of the LA Times article that Mrs. Malkin cites says:

A new Pew Research poll of about 1,000 finds that 78% of respondents knew something about Obama's wife and 26% said it was negative, while only 54% knew something about McCain's wife and a miniscule 7% said it was negative.

Not surprisingly, a majority of Republicans (54%) and Democrats (65%) feel positively about their candidate's spouse. The full story is here along with video reports on each woman.

The LA times story links to the CNN article about the First Wives that says this:

In the latest Pew research poll conducted June 13 through 16, 78 percent have heard a least a little bit about the wife of Barack Obama, but up to 26 percent of those said the coverage of Michelle Obama has been mostly negative. In contrast, 54 percent of those surveyed claim to know a little bit about Cindy McCain and of those polled 31 percent say the coverage they have seen has been mostly positive, while only 7 percent felt she has been represented negatively.

Mrs. Malkin, See-Dubya and fellow commenters, notice the difference between the two. The LA Times says that the poll was about how well the ladies are liked. The CNN article actually mentions the COVERAGE.

There is a huge difference.

Even though I don't hate Mrs. Obama (and for the record, I don't hate Mrs. McCain either), even I would respond that the COVERAGE of Mrs. Obama has been negative... especially when one examines the coverage of Mrs. Obama after her "proud of this country" remark.

Now also interesting, straight from the Pew Research article, the article goes on to say this:

According to a recent People-Press survey, voters' opinions of Michelle Obama and Cindy McCain are largely favorable. However, Mrs. Obama gets slightly higher negative ratings than does Mrs. McCain: 22% of voters had an unfavorable view of Obama last month while 16% had an unfavorable view of McCain.

According to Pew, Mrs. Obama has a higher unfavorable rating. Fair enough.

But it does not say that Mrs. McCain has a higher favorability rating.

OK, so where do we get the Favorable vs. Unfavorable numbers from?

Well ABC just did a poll:

ABC News/Washington Post Poll. June 12-15, 2008. N=1,125 adults nationwide. MoE ± 3. Fieldwork by TNS.

Do you have a favorable or unfavorable impression of Cindy McCain?"

Favorable 39%
Unfavorable 25%
Unsure 36%

"Do you have a favorable or unfavorable impression of Michelle Obama?"

Favorable 48%
Unfavorable 29%
Unsure 23%

So to summerize, Mrs. Obama (at this current time) has higher favorable rating than Mrs. McCain.

The LA Times was totally, totally incorrect for taking the coverage of the women, and taking away that this was the same as favorability ratings.

Oh, this Michelle Obama is just miserable. And if you think she's bad now just wait to see what she is like when she has the spotlight everyday. I fear that we will all be longing for the halcyon days of the Clinton administration...when Hillary was first lady. This woman is even more annoying that Theresa Kerry...and that's saying a lot.

I'll be voting for Juan McAmnesty because - I love my country more than I hate John McCain.

Correct spelling: Mee-Shell.
This better illustrates the shell game she,B-Hussein, and their handlers are using to try to con voters.
Wonder just how dumb we voters will prove to be in November.

Thanks for this thread Mrs. Malkin. Barack is leading John Sidney in the polls, and now I've learned that Cindy is leading Michelle Obama in the First Lady polls.

Gee Willickers, if the polls reflect what will happen on election day, there is a chance that we could wind up with Barack Obama as president and Cindy McCain as First Lady. How bizarre, huh?
Thanks for the heads up.

That is the point, his rhetoric is designed not only to highlight her feelings, but to change the minds of impressionable young, or even not so young, listeners.

The more people who accept her rhetoric of "change" will then look to her and her cronies for answers.

This is grievance mongering 101.

Nothing more.

I don't know why or how Ms. Obama could be so unhappy with her life or unproud of her country. This is a country of opportunity, and she's had plenty of it.

She has more than most people achieve in a lifetime.

Ivy league education, marriage, children, great careers, top salary.

So what, exactly is SO BAD about that?

I personally can't stand someone who has such negative views all the time.

Is there anything she feels is positive in her life?

I personally wouldn't consider her a positive role model based on her attitude. She needs to knock that chip off her shoulder.

BIG TIME.
