Six more days ’til the From the Frontlines web-a-thon

Just six more days ’til the awesome event I told you about over Memorial Day weekend. “From the Frontlines” is a joint project of Melanie Morgan’s Move America Forward, UStream.TV, and Hot Air. On June 26, from 4pm Eastern/1pm Pacific to 12midnight Eastern/9pm Pacific, Melanie and I will be anchoring a livestreamed, 8-hour fund-raising “web-a-thon” to send the largest number of care packages to our troops overseas in U.S. history. We’ve got a star-studded line-up participating in this effort to support our military, including Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham, Dr Laura Schlessinger, Ollie North, Monica Crowley, Ann Coulter, Nancy Reagan, actor Kelsey Grammer, and Five for Fighting’s John Ondrasik. You’ll be able to tune it at Hot Air and on UStream, embed the broadcast on your own blogs, and even catch some of the show on your radio dial if you’re lucky to be in the listening area of a radio station partner.

You can purchase care packages right now, right here, in advance of the web-a-thon. Buy early and often! MAF has raised over $200,000 in advance of the telethon. Our goal is $500,000.

The tireless Melanie Morgan got the ball rolling a few months ago during an e-mail exchange we were having about the untapped synergies between radio, grass-roots conservative activism, and the Internet. I introduced her to Brad Hunstable at UStream and things took off like a rocket. The MAF team has amazing organizational skills and boundless energy; UStream’s staff has also gone above and beyond in making the program happen. I’m honored to play a small part in this unprecedented event and can’t wait for you to join us for an unforgettable day. Mark your calendars, tell your friends, and be sure to tune in.

Catherine Moy of MAF has more:

Thousands of Americans have already sponsored packages through MAF’s website and a giant database of names and addresses of U.S. troops in Iraq & Afghanistan is being built—so that the packages can reach our military men and women in time for the 4th of July holiday. MAF would like all families with loved ones in Iraq and Afghanistan to send addresses and names to ensure all troops benefit from the overwhelming support of a grateful nation, Morgan said.

Local businesses have stepped up for the cause. Sacramento-based coffee roaster, Cornerstone Coffee, is a principal supplier of the coffee included in the care packages. And the old Travelodge hotel on 11th & H donated offices used for preparing the care packages prior to shipping. The Travelodge has been refurbished into the new work/loft office complex known as “Retrolodge.”

The Fairfield-based Jelly Belly Co., which makes the gourmet Jelly Belly beans made famous by President Ronald Reagan, has donated 100,000 bags of their gourmet jelly beans that will be included in the care packages to assist in the effort.

“This effort has stuck a nerve with people from across the nation and here in Sacramento,” Morgan said. “I am personally ecstatic about the love the American people have for our troops.”

Families of troops have already sent thankful notes to MAF, explaining how the men and women on the frontlines of the war against radical Islam appreciate every note, every package from home.

Jeff Via Sr., a Vietnam veteran, sent the address of his son, who is serving in Afghanistan.

“Thanks so much for the support. He graduated from college and decided that the military was what he wanted to do. He didn’t even go in to be an officer. He decided instead to be enlisted first so that, if and when he decides to go be an officer, he will know what it was like to be enlisted,” Via Sr. said. “Once again, thanks for the support. I know from experience how much it means to the troops.”

Roger Quarton is a minister whose son is fighting for the United States.

“My son is serving with the Marines in Iraq, and I’d like to pass along his address to you, so he might be able to receive a package,” Quarton wrote.” “I know it would be a huge “pick-me-up’ for him and his buddies! Thanks for your help and encouragement to him, and myself!”

…Sacramento residents who want to donate items or make a financial contribution to the care package drive can do so by emailing Ryan Gill at Ryan@MoveAmericaForward.org (Move America Forward is accepting coffee, cookies, beef jerky, Gatorade, lip balm, sunblock, insect repellant, foot powder, personal fans, and wet wipes for the care packages).

Residents should send names and addresses of troops to Poohdo@aol.com.

Mel talked to Radio Equalizer’s Brian Maloney about the talk radio giants who will be joining us.

So many folks and groups are pitching in. We’re grateful to each and every one of them.

Among them:

*Eagles Up is helping with the care packages and working on including phone cards.
*The Office of General David Petraeus
*Former US Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton
* Human Events, NR/NRO, Pajamas Media, Townhall, WorldNetDaily, American Thinker
*Vets for Freedom, Operation Care & Comfort, Gathering of Eagles, Gold Star/Blue Star parents
*And many, many more
*Band of Mothers

To my knowledge Ms. Malkin has not hired you to moderate this blog. Nor has she brought you on board as a volunteer moderator.

Trying to control the content and flow of conversation on someone elses’ blog - telling people when and when they can’t post, telling them what they can say or cannot say - is rude, inappropriate and extremely disrespectful.

I’ve worked as a website/blog administrator for many years now, and I can tell you with absolute certainty that if you pulled this kind of stunt on one of MY blogs or websites, you’d be out the door on your ear. I have asolutely zero patience or tolerance for control freaks and mod wannabes.

Ms. Malkin is a fellow professional, and I’m choosing to treat her like one.

If you also respect Ms. Malkin then treat her like the professional that she is, and stop acting like an idiot. You’re not Lancelot, and she’s no Guinnevere.

She’s more than capable of answering any questions that are posed to her on this blog by herself and without help from people like you. Like all site owner/admins who are concerned about their ‘brand’, she is here nearly every day and is certainly aware of what is being discussed.

Or are you so naive as to think that Ms. Malkin doesn’t think through her posts very carefully before she puts them up? She does what she does and she says what she says for a very specific reason, and I’d like to know exactly what that reason is.

Does she have the professional integrity to actually respond to my question, or is she going to try and gloss it over with silence and archivism?

I suspect that I know the answer, but I’m really hoping that she proves me wrong.

I know exactly what the topic is, and that’s why I suggested going back to it.

No threats from me. No controlling behavior from me. I’m just responding to your threadjack.

I see you’re still projecting as well. You know, they have medication for thet.

Oh, one more thing - Michelle Malkin doesn’t answer to you. She doesn’t answer to me either, but then again I’m not the one frothing at the mouth over some percieved slight.

    If you say so.

I see you’re still projecting as well. You know, they have medication for thet.

And you’re a disrespectful, offensive little creep.

Like I said earlier, JHS… I do the same type of work that Ms. Malkin does, elsewhere on the internet. And if you pulled this kind of cr*p on one of my blogs or websites, you’d be lying in the ditch alongside the information superhighway with your feet in the air and your head crammed up your arse.

Oh, one more thing - Michelle Malkin doesn’t answer to you.

    No, she doesn’t.

But she does answer to a great many men and women who are veterans, active-duty military personnel and their family members who are longtime readers here and supporters of Ms. Malkin. People who are becoming increasingly confused, upset and alarmed by the mixed messages coming from this weblog.

Some clarification from Ms. Malkin would be very welcome at this juncture.

The real threat to this country isn’t Mr. McCains’ moderate politics. The real threat to this country and indeed, to the entire Western world, is radical Islamic fundamentalism. Europe is going to be overrun in just 15-20 short years, and America is next on their list if we do nothing to stop it.

We have five months until this election, folks, and a vicious enemy that is intent on bringing America to its’ knees.

We have two men running for the position of Commander in Chief of the US Armed Forces: one who is a terrorist appeaser with a Marxist ideology, and the other a former POW who understands what terrorism is, and is committed to taking the fight to the enemy.

I haven’t forgotten what happened on 9/11, and I’ll ask my fellow respondants here at MM not to forget it either. We may disagree on many things, but that item should never be one of them.

It’s time to set aside the lesser issues that can be dealt with a bit farther on down the road, and get our collective priorities back in line.

My opinion, and the last that I am going to say about it here.

Ms. Malkin, I do hope that you can find the time to give this concerned military mother an honest response to an honest question.

As for the fund raiser, thank you very much for organizing this. I’m giving up takeout food and gourmet coffee myself this weekend, so that I can send a batch of care packages along. I urge everyone here to do whatever they can to support this important effort.

    Good evening to you.

You don’t have the foggiest idea what a “Regan Conservative” is. (Yes, I used quotes because I was quoting you.)
    Here:

The fact of the matter is that Gov. Reagan gave Gov. Jerry Brown a run for his money – or should I say our money? – when it came to raising taxes here in California. But, in spite of the additional revenue, he was responsible in large part for the streets of our cities being turned into public latrines by the unwashed, the unwanted and the insane when, to save a few bucks, he oversaw the closing of California’s mental hospitals. He also signed the nation’s most liberal abortion bill. Although he had a change of heart a scant six months later, one never hears him condemned for flip-flopping on the issue.

And, lest we forget, as president, he opened the floodgates to illegal aliens by signing an amnesty bill in the mid-’80s and, for good measure, appointed Anthony Kennedy and Sandra Day O’Connor to the Supreme Court, neither of whom was the answer to a conservative’s prayer. Frankly, as admirable as Reagan was in so many ways, I suspect that if he were seeking the GOP nomination this year, he’d be dismissed as a RINO by many of the party’s zealots.

You regard yourself as a “Regan Conservative” when are targeting the most conservative candidate in the race for having a pre-presidental track record that is arguably more conservative then your role model.

You seem to have had your mind made up for you. If coming along and posting information that is contrary to whatever provably wrong yet cherished belief you have (ie. “It changed the US Constitution… and it did that without the usual formality of a Constitutional Amendment.”) makes you uncomfortable perhaps you should retreat back to your “happy place” where reality is subject to your whims and your only defense is pedantic nonsense abut the definition of “affected”.

Sorry Bill. You don’t know what I know - and by your posts you aren’t interested in finding out what I know either. You embrace the fallacy of telling me what I know rather then asking me what I know. This is why you have no credibility.

When you’re actually willing to listen rather than to just repeat your old discredited nonsense, then maybe we can have a conversation.

I can defend my assertions, you can’t. You are in no position to lecture about credibility when you can only hop on and call referenced posts “lies, projection and attacks”. Not only is that not a credible rebuttal, it’s whiny.

“No problem. I’ll just keep treating you like one.”

Right, you sure taught me a lesson with your whole affected/injured defense there, whelp. Your needy quest to save face by periodically popping up and declaring that you have been somehow proven “right” when you have basically made a fool out of yourself is just pathetic.

“Hey Bill, are you laughing as hard as I am?”

Actually, at this point I can hardly keep my eyes open.

This has been illuminating if not frustrating and depressing. In my interactions with people who wrongly refer to themselves as “liberals” I have noticed that many dogmatically cling to their beliefs and perceptions regardless of whatever evidence to the contrary is presented to them. They often say that they “feel” such and such instead of that they “think” it. JHSII has adopted the same mindset, only he evidentially regards himself to be “conservative”.

That anyone could remain on the fence in the face of a probable Obama presidency and still kid themselves in to thinking that they are acting on conservative principals is incredible. In my opinion it shows a disconnect with reality that would make me concerned about him having sharp objects or operating heavy machinery.

In case you haven’t noticed, I am very concerned about where the country seems to be heading. Frustrated as well.
