Spike Lee on Obama: There’s “gonna be a real Chocolate City!”

By Michelle Malkin  •  June 20, 2008 07:50 AM

Still bitter from his spanking at the hands of Clint Eastwood (background here), conspiracy nut and race-monger Spike Lee is clinging to Barack Obama for revenge.

He told a film festival crowd this week that he has gathered 1,000 hours of footage of his Obamessiah on the campaign trail and will produce a documentary about the candidate. The dour director instantly cheered up. Via SilverDocs, Lee gloats:

Discussing his Hurricane Katrina epic When the Levees Broke, Lee referenced the current flooding in the midwest and said, “The infrastructure of this country is crumbling, and money’s going elsewhere.” He paused, then at quadruple the volume: “That’s gonna change, though…gonna be a real Chocolate City!” He went on to drop the news that his longtime editor Sam Pollard has been filming Obama throughout the primary season and has already captured 1,000 hours of footage for a documentary being produced by Edward Norton. When Kennedy began a question with the phrase, “If Obama’s gonna become president…”, Lee interrupted. “There is no if! It changes everything…it’s gonna be Before Obama, and After Obama. And I’m gonna be at that inauguration, too.”

Lee, who believes “someone’s” paying Jeremiah Wright to diss Obama, will be an honored guest at the Democrat National Convention and takes credit for the Obamas’ marriage.

Spike Lee: Soon to be Obama’s NEA chairman in the new Chocolate City?

Shudder.

Speaking of race conspiracies, Michelle Obama channels Spike and panders to racial paranoia. See here and here.

Now I know why Spike’s new WWII movie was in the previews before the latest Hulk movie:

People do realize that Spike’s WWII movie is based on a work of fiction, right? Not enough compelling real stories of black soldiers from WWII, apparently (I probably need to note my sarcasm here). How does Spike feel about George Lucas’ involvement in a Tuskegee Airmen movie? Spike’ll probably complain that it didn’t address the racist-victim angle enough.

900 black Americans in a force of over 100,000 fought at Iwo Jima. Less than one of every 100. Most of them were non-combat soldiers, which would bring the percentage of those that would have been included in the movie lower since non-combat scenes are boring. Screenplays are normally written to be as tight and on-topic as possible. After shooting, the film is edited to be even tighter. The more a movie strays from the main story, the more convoluted it becomes. If a cursory scene involving blacks was included, many viewers would have seen it as pandering to political correctness. Including blacks for the sake of including blacks in a film that wasn’t about black individuals would have been ludicrous (or “ludacris” for the phoenetic-minded). Does Spike Lee include whites in his movies for the sake of adding whites?

Yes, I acknowledge that this comment is dredging up old news. Oh, well.

I just wish Spike would do less talking, and more quality filmmaking.

How can the man who made Do the Right Thing and Malcolm X(where no less than Martin Scorcese says it was the best movie of the decade), not just promote based on his record of success? He’s had some clunkers over the years, but got his groove back with Inside Man.(which was decent)
I just think the guy is a bit of a clown, and terribly insecure when he can’t just rely on his enormous talents to put butts in the theatre and awards on his shelf. Maybe Spike works better when he’s angry and provoking, but to a lot of people like me, it’s very tired and boring.

How come whites are still classified as “racist’ at the drop of a hat but blacks are simply “clowns” with “poor judgement”, etc?

As I said in a post that MM deleted for some reason, anyone who votes for the racist, radical, B Hussein IS A RACIST. You are either an out in the open (and why not, as most whites are scared to death of blacks and especially of being tarred as “racist”) “clown” like Lee, or an enlightened “typical white person” who is so racist, he is incapable of holding blacks to any reasonable standard of behavior. You know, like NOT joining a “church” and befriending a monster like Wright after the very first “sermon” you hear is an H-bomb against whites and America. Stuff like that.

Rusty, I agree the comment was wrong. Isn’t MM traveling? Perhaps that is why Bit_boy’s comment has not been removed? I know, sounds like I’m making excuses for her– I doubt she needs or wants anyone doing so. But there is a stark contrast to the ONE tasteless comment followed by the condemnation by Michelle’s regular readers and the commonplace hate and crudity found on many leftist websites followed by agreement and even more tasteless comments. Quite a contrast. I think that is the real reason you, lgm, et al lurk about– a better class of bloggers.

So perpetuating racism is okay as long as it is business? Seems to me slavery was all about business too. Doesn’t really justify it, does it?

Let’s give this more than twenty seconds of liberal knee-jerk guilt.

The reason that word will endure in the vernacular is that it’s disappearance would deprive Spike, Richard Pryor and nearly every rapper of a substantial portion of his material.

The very funny Chris Rock found utility in its use when he said “There’s like a civil war going on with black people. And there’s two sides: there’s black people and there’s niggers. The niggers have got to go.”

Spike Lee is a racist. After all these years of minorities and African Americans getting preferential treatment, if Obama comes in and makes the US even more racist than it already is, then I imagine there’s going to be some major civil conflicts in the coming years. If anything, preferential treatment (affirmative action) should be completely dropped once there’s a minority/African American as POTUS, because anything else would be sheer hypocrisy.
