Since we’re talking Muslims/Islam…here’s some info on those two scarf girls from the Obama rally the other day (from Boortz’ website):

One of the girls, Hebba Aref, was an officer of the Muslim Student Association when she attended the University of Michigan in Dearborn, the Muslim capital of the US. This Muslim Student Association, by the way, was identified by the Chicago Tribune as “part of the American manifestation of the Sunni terrorist group, Al-Ikhwan Al-Muslimeen
The other girl, Shimaa Abdelfadeel was the chair of an organization called SAFE at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Back in 2002, her organization hosted a Divestment Conference against Israel. To give you an idea of what kind of conference this was, the crowds’ favorite chant was apparently “Annihilate the Jews!” Oh and the keynote speaker was a man by the name of Sami Al-Arian, who is a convicted Islamic terrorist. Some of Abdelfadeel’s work here.
Ahh, but they weren’t innocent according Islamic law. And really who needs to be told what does or doesn’t meet the definition of an honor killing? It’s just flat out murder and any religion that advocates it should be stamped out.
It pains me to see pictures of these girls smiling and just loving life.

I was having a talk with one of our young ladies in my Squadron about the tender mercies of Islam towards the fairer sex this morning. She is eagerly preparing for her first deploy to the AOR in the very near future and she was saying she could never understand how anyone especially a woman would willingly convert to this totalitarian from of government disguised as a religion. Some of our young people really have a good head on their shoulders. Well that makes another one besides me that will never submit.
I know all I need to know about muslims. None need apply for admission to this country. The ones that are here need to move on. Their belief system is incompatible with American society.

Reading through the article, I noticed right away the argument that all other religions have honor killings.
Maybe. At one point in history.
But I’ve yet to hear of a father in my parish shooting his daughter for dating a non-Catholic. My father didn’t murder me when I converted to Catholicism and started dating a man of my choosing. I’m fairly certian my husband won’t harm our daughters if they date outside the faith.
You want a litmus test about how accurate the “other religions do this too” argument is? Check the media. They’re notorious for running stories that fit their template.
When they don’t, it’s silence.
If Christians were engaging in the sort of systematic, faith-based, selective abuse, subjugation and murder of women in the same way – it’d be all over the place.

What I completely do not understand are the western women I occasionally see, who appear to have converted to Islam (they are dressed in Islamic clothing).
Why would any woman brought up in Western values, find anything appealing in converting to a set of beliefs which relegate them to near-chattel status?

For some strange reason, some women just feel the need to completely lose their sense of identity and submerge themselves in a man. His life becomes her life. I believe that this explains why beaten women continue to come back to and defend their wicked husbands/boyfriends. I don’t understand it, but I’ve seen it several times. Maybe these type of Western women are drawn to the perceived strong authority of men in the Islamic culture? …or maybe they just feel they don’t deserve anything better in life. We all tend to rise or fall to our level of expected success/status in this life. Maybe these women are sinking to theirs.
This case underscores the necessity of Islamic women to get their act together and pull together and be aware that their real enemy sees them as little more than souped-up sex-making baby-making pets, and that’s hardly an exaggeration. It will be too late when radical Islamic is entrenched and sanctions husbands and brothers to beat the snot out their wife or daughter or sisters for talking back, and way too late when you aren’t allowed to drive or show more of yourself than your eyes. This is why I SPIT on N.O.W. and all associated with them; Where’s their support for a suppressed sisterhood? Not peep! Rail the rafters down about Darth Vader Bush, but say nothing-nothing of Saddam’s sons nightly picking girls out of middle schools for a night on the town. I sincerely hope Islamic women — especially the more enlightened ones — wisen up but quick and stand behind our democratization policy else check the dark handwriting on the wall.
If only there were billboards all over Afghanistan and Iraq showing in split screen the possibilities a western-type life offers females and how the Islamic fanatics want females to live! There are too many stories like this one. All who were complicit in the murder of these girls deserve to be drawn and quartered. Men like Yaser could not handle a REAL woman, which is why they need force children into marriage. How pathetic! It doesn’t matter what the excuse is – religious, cultural, it’s crap. These men are on a power trip. If Yaser had spent more time advancing his skills for a better job, instead of being the family tyrant, these beautiful girls would be alive. The libertine attitudes our culture has toward sexuality, behavior, family and attitude drive those who are seeking something less self-serving to fill the void. It’s like a rubber band – stretch it too far in one direction and it will snap back (painfully) in the other.
Living in a post-Christian Western culture, this period of secularism is the brief pause between exhaling the Judeo-Christian values that founded our nation and inhaling something else. That something else will be radical Islam.
People are drawn to radical Islam because 1) they grew up in a society that told them Christianity is evil, 2) used a politically correct brush to whitewash radical Islam, and 3) they’re looking for something to get them out of the mainstreamm mentality of “anything goes”…

honour killings are like any other crime; sick, brutal, violent and immoral. However, just like murder, pedophilia, rape and torturem they are practiced by various degrees in many cultures and religions. There is no texts in the Bible or Koran(etc) that promote H.K., it is just a sad and evil tradition. research it. Europe had them, as well as asian countries, like india and sikh countries, and many others. it is only a belief in which the woman is seen as property, and disobediance to the father is punishable. i think its sad and infuriating it still goes on this day and age.

You hit the nail on the head. One of my friends–a sharp, very friendly, sympathetic person–recently had an on-and-off relationship with a guy who was a jerk because she didn’t feel like she could “ever do better” with him. Some people grow up not ever feeling “good enough” (even though they are) and settle with whatever they can get instead of what they deserve.
Some people prefer to be with people they can dominate and tear down… and from what I’ve seen, this is an ideal that permeates modern Middle East and Muslim culture.
