AZ protesters attempt to shut down Sheriff Joe Arpaio

By see-dubya  •  June 21, 2008 06:38 AM

One of the complaints I hear about Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is that he “works the media”.

You’re damn right he does, and it’s a good thing, too. His pro-illegal immigration opponents certainly work the media, and if Arpaio didn’t deploy some countermeasures he would be out of a job. Or if these guys have their way, crippled and unable to do his job effectively:

Critics of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio staged a raucous show Thursday in hopes of pressuring the Board of Supervisors to monitor more closely his enforcement of immigration laws and the amount of public money spent on lawsuits that involve his office,

…yeah, lawsuits that these protesters or their activist friends probably filed themselves…

The protesters, hundreds strong, were unsuccessful in holding the five elected officials to any promises. The Supervisors unanimously approved a $2.4 billion budget, up slightly from this year, with cuts in nearly all departments and programs, and about 428 eliminated vacant positions and layoffs.

More from Sheriff Joe back here, and a grudging MSM admission of his success here.

You know, I have read through all of the comments. I understand your distaste for the Sherrif on other matters. But most here are simply cheering on the stand he has taken on a matter that has long frustrated most law abiding citizens of the US. I would never support stopping all cars looking for illegals. That is not a good use of resources.

However, the first time I saw you mention brown shirts, in your first post, because the people cheered his acions on illegals, I wondered how long till the tried and true “xenophobe”, “racist”, and gratuitous references to hitler would begin (other than the tangential brown shirts). Didn’t take long. Why the name calling if you, as you stated, “I’m in favor of agressive enforcement of immigration laws”. Yet, you hurl the xenophobic word around at everyone. I can only assume you do not really support enforcement of immigration laws, else you would not hurl these names around. Logic dictates that it makes you also a “xenophobe” due your “aggressive enforcement” statement. I don’t know if he is a good sherrif on any ohter matters, except immigration enforecement. But if I beleived the way you claim to, I would have simply made my point and let it go. But you just kept name calling which indicates some kind of emotional involvement. Which would appear to be you hate enforcement of immigration laws.

Look, name calling of racist, xenophobe etc has been used so often it does not bother most of us any longer. It is the way illegal alien supporters stifle meaningful debate (well, really all worshipers of PC). You might have swayed me to understand he (the sherrif) is on the whole a rotten sherrif had you not started wiht the liberal name calling crap. Though I still love the guy because he is tough on illegals. In fact, I would like to see the gov’t be a lot tougher on them. I guess that makes me a hater, xenophobe, racists. So go ahead, but I don’t care.

Anyone who focuses on mis-spelled words usually doesn’t have much of value to say. You’re a good example.

    I doubt you would recognize…

Then you poor brown-shirts won’t have a hero to get your vicarious thrills from.

But just to prove to you slobbering xenophobes…

Although few of you are capable of reading that much in one sitting AND comprehending it…

Sorry, not really. I would prefer NOT to be accepted by cretins such as most of you on this thread are.

You’re an angry little troll. :(

Why? Did you get recycled at your anger management camp? Or did your mother take away your Wii?

    This thread’s still running hot?

Sheriff Joe’s not the worst Maricopa County has had. He’s found a niche in the Peter Principal where he functions well, politics. Keep in mind he has already custody of all arrested in the county, has taken to the exclusion of the Humane Society custody of all strays, ferals, abused, etc. animals in the county and has sole enforcement responsibility for the 95% of Maricopa County that is unincorporated. He doesn’t go there. He gets his chops by poaching on Phoenix. True, Phoenix is alien friendly but Joe’s intrusions are insignificant. The prize of one of Joe’s last big, 18 month prostitution investigations with 54 arrests in Phoenix was a 56 year old who’d serviced four of her old friends for 20 years. The riot at tent city was sparked when a guard beat a prisoner for using the Port-a-Potty off hours. 700 men shared 8 crappers available for two hours three times a day. Joe came to us after a full retirement in DEA which always suggested a bureaucratic slug to me. Personally the man is a cowardly slob. At $50k a piece he sells his endorsement including 3 of 4 candidates in one primary race. No, let him do what he does and lend inspiration but you really don’t want this guy on a higher stage.

Sheriff Joe’s immigration stand gets the headlines but the Employer Sanctions Act is what’s getting effect here. That included the school districts, city, county and ADOT workers, some 40% in some places cruising on bogus SS#s. I’ve just finished building a house. The contractors have been devastated and my completion times were stretched and stretched as they fumbled for crews. My masons, a partnership where one worked for ADOT the other for city water and did this on ‘tax payer time’ were both…you guessed it. Luckily they got the work done before the deadline. I don’t feel guilty at all.

On the other hand, my ghetto shack is surrounded by vacant, formerly alien housing multi-unit properties. It’s value peaked at 185 and now is in free fall.

I’d be ambivalent but I’m not. The border needs control. We need to know who’s here and the coming census is a good way to find out. Give it a year to build the fence or monitor the crossing and that same year for all resident aliens to register. Felons go home, seasonal workers get a temp, let’s haggle over the rest and anchor babies are no sinecure. We need no pronouncements from the 100 Club on how to divy federal largess.

douche bag.. stop with the name calling..

    Or..

Robscottw. I think your point would be better taken without refering to everyone here as ‘Brown shirts’ and make a point about Joe saying, “I like tent city and the pink underwear but the concerns I have regarding Sheriff Joe are 1) mistaken SWAT attack on home, 2) bureaucratic slug, 3) undercover vice officers making the arrest AFTER the act.. ”

Democrat millionaires need illegal Mexican laborers to pick infected tomatoes because Republicans ended slavery and Jim Crow in the South. Asians immigrants worked themselves out of poverty so who else was left? No wonder they are “cotton pick’n MAD” at the sheriff for interfering with their sweatshop labor. The Press always says it is Republican Corporations doing the labor abuse, but somehow it is Democrat millionaires interfering with the fence and stopping enforcement of the border security.
Democrat platform this year: shut down legally operating businesses; increase unemployment benefits; increase taxes on lawful citizens who work hard; declare a moratorium on patriotism – to end in the year 3000; reparation for slavery – actual formal slaves are to be excluded and no ID to be required for the benefit and all whites are to pay- this will be kept hush-hush until after elections; all Gitmo terrorists are to be freed and their lawyers to become millionaires; actual elections for unions to be banned along with as many other elective offices as possible – next election cycle Democrat primary winners to be declared before any elections; hate laws to be passed – hate being defined as “offensive thinking. speech, voting, religion except Islam, anti-affirmative action, quoting Democrats; further actions to make conservatism illegal to continue (Tom Delay still has not had a trial – think crook Elliot Spitzer, crook Nifong, crook Janet Reno, crook Ronnie Earl, etc, etc, etc; Gays to run Military – long standing Navy jokes to become reality (LOL).; decriminalization of pedophilia; Spanish to be recognized as second primary language; Detroit auto companies to declare bankruptcy, Social Security taxes to increase but those who pay the most to be denied any benefit; Medicare to be turned into Medicaid so that only the super wealthy will have decent health care; the list is endless.
