Democrat millionaires need illegal Mexican laborers to pick infected tomatoes because Republicans ended slavery and Jim Crow in the South. Asians immigrants worked themselves out of poverty so who else was left? No wonder they are "cotton pick'n MAD" at the sheriff for interfering with their sweatshop labor. The Press always says it is Republican Corporations doing the labor abuse, but somehow it is Democrat millionaires interfering with the fence and stopping enforcement of the border security.
Democrat platform this year: shut down legally operating businesses; increase unemployment benefits; increase taxes on lawful citizens who work hard; declare a moratorium on patriotism - to end in the year 3000; reparation for slavery - actual formal slaves are to be excluded and no ID to be required for the benefit and all whites are to pay- this will be kept hush-hush until after elections; all Gitmo terrorists are to be freed and their lawyers to become millionaires; actual elections for unions to be banned along with as many other elective offices as possible - next election cycle Democrat primary winners to be declared before any elections; hate laws to be passed - hate being defined as "offensive thinking. speech, voting, religion except Islam, anti-affirmative action, quoting Democrats; further actions to make conservatism illegal to continue (Tom Delay still has not had a trial - think crook Elliot Spitzer, crook Nifong, crook Janet Reno, crook Ronnie Earl, etc, etc, etc; Gays to run Military - long standing Navy jokes to become reality (LOL).; decriminalization of pedophilia; Spanish to be recognized as second primary language; Detroit auto companies to declare bankruptcy, Social Security taxes to increase but those who pay the most to be denied any benefit; Medicare to be turned into Medicaid so that only the super wealthy will have decent health care; the list is endless.

This thread's still running hot?

Sheriff Joe's not the worst Maricopa County has had. He's found a niche in the Peter Principal where he functions well, politics. Keep in mind he has already custody of all arrested in the county, has taken to the exclusion of the Humane Society custody of all strays, ferals, abused, etc. animals in the county and has sole enforcement responsibility for the 95% of Maricopa County that is unincorporated. He doesn't go there. He gets his chops by poaching on Phoenix. True, Phoenix is alien friendly but Joe's intrusions are insignificant. The prize of one of Joe's last big, 18 month prostitution investigations with 54 arrests in Phoenix was a 56 year old who'd serviced four of her old friends for 20 years. The riot at tent city was sparked when a guard beat a prisoner for using the Port-a-Potty off hours. 700 men shared 8 crappers available for two hours three times a day. Joe came to us after a full retirement in DEA which always suggested a bureaucratic slug to me. Personally the man is a cowardly slob. At $50k a piece he sells his endorsement including 3 of 4 candidates in one primary race. No, let him do what he does and lend inspiration but you really don't want this guy on a higher stage.

Sheriff Joe's immigration stand gets the headlines but the Employer Sanctions Act is what's getting effect here. That included the school districts, city, county and ADOT workers, some 40% in some places cruising on bogus SS#s. I've just finished building a house. The contractors have been devastated and my completion times were stretched and stretched as they fumbled for crews. My masons, a partnership where one worked for ADOT the other for city water and did this on 'tax payer time' were both...you guessed it. Luckily they got the work done before the deadline. I don't feel guilty at all.

On the other hand, my ghetto shack is surrounded by vacant, formerly alien housing multi-unit properties. It's value peaked at 185 and now is in free fall.

I'd be ambivalent but I'm not. The border needs control. We need to know who's here and the coming census is a good way to find out. Give it a year to build the fence or monitor the crossing and that same year for all resident aliens to register. Felons go home, seasonal workers get a temp, let's haggle over the rest and anchor babies are no sinecure. We need no pronouncements from the 100 Club on how to divy federal largess.

You know, I have read through all of the comments. I understand your distaste for the Sherrif on other matters. But most here are simply cheering on the stand he has taken on a matter that has long frustrated most law abiding citizens of the US. I would never support stopping all cars looking for illegals. That is not a good use of resources.

However, the first time I saw you mention brown shirts, in your first post, because the people cheered his acions on illegals, I wondered how long till the tried and true "xenophobe", "racist", and gratuitous references to hitler would begin (other than the tangential brown shirts). Didn't take long. Why the name calling if you, as you stated, "I’m in favor of agressive enforcement of immigration laws". Yet, you hurl the xenophobic word around at everyone. I can only assume you do not really support enforcement of immigration laws, else you would not hurl these names around. Logic dictates that it makes you also a "xenophobe" due your "aggressive enforcement" statement. I don't know if he is a good sherrif on any ohter matters, except immigration enforecement. But if I beleived the way you claim to, I would have simply made my point and let it go. But you just kept name calling which indicates some kind of emotional involvement. Which would appear to be you hate enforcement of immigration laws.

Look, name calling of racist, xenophobe etc has been used so often it does not bother most of us any longer. It is the way illegal alien supporters stifle meaningful debate (well, really all worshipers of PC). You might have swayed me to understand he (the sherrif) is on the whole a rotten sherrif had you not started wiht the liberal name calling crap. Though I still love the guy because he is tough on illegals. In fact, I would like to see the gov't be a lot tougher on them. I guess that makes me a hater, xenophobe, racists. So go ahead, but I don't care.

When you got to the “but” part, you just cancelled out the part about upholding the law.

Hey dippie Die Hippi Die,

Anyone who focuses on mis-spelled words usually doesn't have much of value to say. You're a good example.

I note your post attacking New Times includes the following quote (which you ignore) that ". . . Phoenix New Times, whose writers have won the Arizona Press Club’s Journalist of the Year award eight out of the past eleven years . .". It would seem that New Times enjoys a pretty good reputation at least within the AZ Press Club.

I doubt you would recognize good journalism if nickle-bag Joe forced you to read it.

Oh, and Bob, Joe was a PROBLEM long before he latched onto illegal immigration as public relations ploy to bolster his re-election effort. No doubt he'll drop that facade just like Napolitano did after she was re-elected. Then you poor brown-shirts won't have a hero to get your vicarious thrills from.

But just to prove to you slobbering xenophobes that I can propose a drastic measure to combat a problem he's a link to something I wrote you might like -

http://pedestrianinfidel.blogspot.com/2007/02/proposed-constitutional-amendment.html

Although few of you are capable of reading that much in one sitting AND comprehending it I'm hoping it restores me to your good graces.

Sorry, not really. I would prefer NOT to be accepted by cretins such as most of you on this thread are.

I don't own a brown shirt, but if that's what it takes to show support for Sheriff Joe I'll get one.

There is no cure for illegal immigration that's worse that the disease.

Good job! You stopped misspelling nickel. Thanks for another story sourced from the Phoenix New Times--a newspaper Dan Rather would be proud to edit.

New Times was founded in 1970 and grew to become the largest alternative chain in the country prior to its merger with the Voice. The company started with Phoenix New Times, whose writers have won the Arizona Press Club’s Journalist of the Year award eight out of the past eleven years. In 1983, the company began expanding, first acquiring Westword in Denver and ultimately growing to include Miami New Times, the Dallas Observer, the Houston Press, SF Weekly in San Francisco, Cleveland Scene, the Riverfront Times in St. Louis, The Pitch in Kansas City, and New Times Broward-Palm Beach in Ft. Lauderdale.

In 2006, New Times, Inc merged with Village Voice Media, Inc, taking on the name Village Voice Media and six newspapers: Village Voice, LA Weekly, OC Weekly, Minneapolis City Pages, and Nashville Scene. Village Voice Media continues in the footsteps of both companies, by providing its readers with solid journalism and in-depth stories...and a marketing venue for dominatrices looking to expand their clientele.

"The letter is noteworthy because many of the pastors who signed it come from largely White, conservative, evangelical Christian churches"

I'm a member of a mega evangelical church in east mesa (part of Maricopa County). Nowhere, after all this "news" have I been able to find a list of the pastors that supposedly "signed on" to this stupidly thought out letter. We support Sheriff Joe here, and his popularity runs at about 80 percent approval, with no doubt he will be reelected next Fall.

He's tough, ornry, and fair, and will tell you he's an equal opportunity guy. You break the law, you go to his tent city jail where it was 115 degrees all last week, where you will wear pink underwear and sox, and eat food worth about 25 cents a day......We love him!!

I was there when Joe proposed throwing a cordon around Maricopa county and searching EVERY car that came in.

Then AG Romney politely reminded Joe of something called the 4th Amendment. I'm pretty sure Joe had never heard of that before.

Joe also made the botched raid club -

"Police conduct a massively armed raid on a home they suspect contains illegal assault weapons and ammunition. In a densely-populated, upscale neighborhood, a SWAT team from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department, complete with an armored personnel carrier, uses grenade launchers to fire at least four rounds of tear gas into the windows of the home. The quarter-million dollar home catches fire shortly after officers enter.

As the homeowners evacuate, police officers chase the family's 10-month-old pit bull puppy back into the burning house with puffs from a fire extinguisher. The dog perishes in the flames. Police allegedly laugh at Andrea Baker, the dog's owner, as she cries at their cruelty.

Later, the brakes fail on the SWAT team's armored personnel carrier, causing it to lurch down the street and smash into a parked car. The car's owner, Julie Madrigal, had fled the car just moments earlier with her nine-year-old daughter after the two grew frightened by the firing of tear gas canisters by SWAT officers.

The home is completely destroyed. Nearby homes are also put at risk. Police find no assault weapons, only an antique shotgun and a nine-millimeter pistol, both of which are legally owned. Nevertheless, police arrest 26-year-old Erik Kush on outstanding traffic violations.

The sheriff of Maricopa County is Joe Arpairo, who made national headlines in the 1990s for his aggressive treatment of inmates and unconventional approaches to crime control. One member of Sheriff Arpairo's SWAT team once told CBS News reporter Jim Stewart the best part of being on the SWAT team is that, "You get to play with a lot of guns. That's what's fun. You know, everybody on this team is--you know, loves guns." Another adds, "Hey, the bottom line is it's friggin' fun, man. That's the deal. Nobody wants to take burglary reports."

---------------
Yeah! Thats the kind of police state we all want to live in right?

Not me you idiots.

You people are just as stupid and dangerous as the liberals.

yes I know CW wrote the post. Doesn’t matter, its on MM.com so MM gets the credit for hits and misses.

Anyone who thinks this grand-standing sherriff (make no mistake, Joe is only going after illegals for the press - he doesn’t care about enforcing the law - only about getting re-elected) is good because he arrests a few illegals while killing innocent people in his own jail, padding his own pockets from graft thru the commissary in the jail and the posse, ignores violent criminals, and leaves whole areas of Maricopa County without protection, either doesn’t know about him (most responding here don’t), is an idiot, or a xenophobic idiot.
(snip)

and

You might also note that I’ve never said I oppose Joe because he’s going after illegal aliens, I’m in favor of agressive enforcement of immigration laws. I oppose him because he is a cure worse than the disease.

How do you reconcile calling some of us "xenophobic idiots" and saying that you don't "oppose Joe because he’s going after illegal aliens, I’m in favor of agressive (sic) enforcement of immigration laws?"

Doesn't your second statement put you in the category of "xenophobic idiots" (as defined by you) as well? In fact, your second statement is pretty much like most of the posts in this thread. Are you now a "brown shirted xenophobic idiot" because you agree with us that the invasion from the south needs to be stopped?

Your statements are just incongruous.

And isn't it possible that 12 to 30 million illegal invaders will do a whole lot more damage to Maricopa county and the nation than one sheriff that, according to you, is corrupt?

As far as I am concerned, all I care about is the fact that he is, by whatever means, going after the illegal aliens that the rest of the government won't, even though that is their duty and legal obligation. If you have problems with the rest of his methods, then vote him out, or run against him yourself. There is nothing the rest of us can do, like him or not. We don't live there, as you constantly remind us.

Just replace him with another enforcer of immigration laws.
