YES! The ultimate Obama endorsement! (UPDATED)

By see-dubya  •  June 22, 2008 02:15 PM

Charles at LGF links to this report at the American-based OneFreeKorea, which is a good site I’ve seen linking here a few times. I’m going to wait to light the cigar until it gets verified a little more and we see the whole translated text, but it looks like we’ve got another tyrant endorsement:

The Chosun Sinbo, the mouthpiece of North Korea’s Japanese front organization Chongryon and often for the North Korean regime itself, has announced its preference for Obama over McCain, whom it calls “a variant of Bush” and “nothing better than a scarecrow of neoconservatives,” which is a bit odd considering that the Bush Administration’s giveaway diplomacy is better for Kim Jong Il than even Clinton’s awful performance.

Castro we knew about, and Qaddafi chimed in just the other day, but Kim Jong Il?

I wasn’t expecting that.

Take me now, Lord. My life as a blogger is complete.

The Obamessiah must ask himself once again: Why do all these anti-American tyrants keep s…um, endorsing my candidacy?

____________

UPDATE: Commenter Tennyson, who did the wonderful Snobama and Arugula posters, jumps on this one:

tennysonroneryendorsement.png

Also, OneFreeKorea has updated their link above with a translation of the Korean press release. It’s even more delicious than I had hoped, because it emphasizes the endorsement stems from Obama’s willingness to meet Mr. Ronery sans preconditions:

We will see a better relationship between the U.S. and the Korean Peninsula with Obama, who sternly criticizes Bush and who would meet the leader of Chosun without pre-conditions, than with the “Bush clone” and scarecrow of the neocons McCain.

Come on, Osama, your turn…you know you’ve got one tape left in you…

Isn’t that because he said in one of his books, that when dealing with white people he learned to speak softly and not make any sudden moves? He’s acting, just like Chappelle. But the lemmings are falling for it.

Because Barack does not view them as anti American. In fact there are probably several programs that these “fearless leaders” have instituted in their countries that he would like to impose here. Of course he won’t have to deal with all of that nasty blood shed and stuff since the courts will simply nod their heads in agreement and the sheep of America will just continue grazing on the grass while hoping the sheepdogs are out there somewhere.

I think he was commenting on hypocrisy, not offensiveness. Criticism of slurs against asians here, when made against Michelle, were apparently offensive. . .but slurs against certain other Asians are apparently NOT offensive.

There’s a lack of consistency which chapoutier is not incorrect to point out.

Personally, I didn’t find either case all that offensive (and I find the ‘ronery’ comment funny. . .having seen Team America).

I used to read Kim Jong-Il’s Live Journal every day. THAT was some hilarous reading.

Balderdash. You’re citing a case where a majority was objecting to an attempt by a business to secularize their religious holiday.

It’s those of your ilk (a wonderful word conveying distaste) who think minorities should impose their views on majorities.

As for “many” being offended by having a common problem of English pronunciation (limited to Japanese and Koreans) being pointed out in order to make fun of a murderous dictator IN A MOVIE, get the eff over it!

It’s like Germans being offended if a movie depicts Adolf Hitler speaking heavily accented English. Kinda misses the point, eh?

(and I suppose all you Perpetually Outraged were steamed sitting through Inspector Clouseau movies)

But if you really want to be offended, go try speaking American-accented French on the streets of Paris.

    Fulldroolcup,

Please. This has nothing to do with majority versus minority. And as an aside I seriously doubt a majority of Americans are offended by “Happy Holidays.” I would gather most could not care less.

    Also, as to this:

being pointed out in order to make fun of a murderous dictator IN A MOVIE, get the eff over it!

If I were to make fun of Robert Mugabe by referencing some racial stereotype or epiteth associated with blacks, would that be cool?

This has everything to do with the tendency here to claim offense at the drop of a hat at anything that even mildly upsets the board’s general sensibilities, but when the offense is on the other foot so to speak, you all scurry to the “jeez…why you gotta be so pc/sensitive/uptight/humorless” defense.

In truth I was not personally offended by See-Dub’s comment, though I question its taste. I think if anyone knew me here at all they would know I am very very hard to offend. Except one thing that always gets my goat.

    Hypocrisy.

It’s not the same thing. While race-/ethnicity are beyond one’s control, it is not beyond one’s control to improve one’s language and speaking skills.

“This has everything to do with the tendency here to claim offense at the drop of a hat… .”

Again, I disagree. My Appalachian accent is made sport of every time I travel more than one hundred miles either north of the Ohio River or west of the Mississippi. I don’t over-react to such ribbing’s because I know it’s all in fun, and because it’s just not that big a deal to me.

Relatedly, if you’ve ever seen the film “A Christmas Story,” one of the most popular holiday films of all time, and not laughed at the scene where Ralphie and his family have Christmas dinner at the Chinese restaurant because you find it offensive, then you need to reexamine your criteria for what classifies as racism and what does not.

Because like with See Dubya’s post, you’re missing out on some hilarious good-natured humor.

DBN, I think you missed my point.

First, I generally enjoy See-Dub’s posts. I find them sardonic and peppered with pop culture references, which is very much my own style of humor.

Second, this is not about what some individually find offensive or inoffensive. This is about what I view as this board’s general mentality and hypocrisy when it comes to defining what is offensive and what is not. If any prominent liberal were to go on some show and use a mocking asian accent like that (pop culture reference or no) or write it in a column, I have little doubt they would be skewered here and elsewhere (as Rosie was). Obviously context matters, but I don’t think the fact that See-Dub was referencing a movie cleanses the racial stereotype completely.

And, perhaps, my most controversial stance ever here: I HATE A Christmas Story. Hate it Hate it Hate it. It is one of those movies, Clue is another, that all of my friends seem to enjoy that I get ill at the thought of watching.

    “…context matters… .”

You’re right, again; however, the difference between Rosie’s mimicry and See Dubya’s satire is that Rosie used mocking facial gestures, gestures not common to all Asians who speak with accents, where See Dubya merely employed a correctable speech impediment to reinforce a greater point.

    I HATE A Christmas Story.

“You’re a mean one”, Mr Chapoutier! {def. to Dr.Seuss} Just jokin,’ it does get a little tiresome after the umpteenth viewing.
