Silky Pony and Maxine Waters at ACORN convention

By Michelle Malkin  •  June 23, 2008 01:29 PM

I mentioned the Consumer Rights League’s whistleblower report on ACORN’s shady activities last week. Not a peep about it from anyone in Congress. Via reader William Amos comes news of the voter fraud-perpetuating, mortgage racketeering group’s national convention today. Headlining the event: John Edwards and Chavista Maxine Waters, with ACORN’s chief calling for “regime change” and the requisite bashing of unscrupulous lenders:

About 2,000 members of ACORN, an advocacy group for low-income individuals, focused on getting out the vote this fall as they gathered for their national convention Sunday.

ACORN, or Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, is the nation’s largest such group, with offices and 400,000 member families in 42 states.

ACORN is hosting its biennial national convention at Cobo Hall with workshops on the mortgage foreclosure crisis, voter registration, health care and other key issues affecting low-income families.

“It is time for a regime change in America,” said Maude Hurd, ACORN national president, to whistles and enthusiastic applause.

State by state, they told how they were effecting change in their respective communities — from sponsoring forums to lobbying for legislation — but all agreed more had to be done.

Your tax dollars at work.

The “Subprime Six” and defaulting Democrat Laura Richardson were unavailable for comment.

    lol.

I think those six are closer to what constitutes a regime.

Maxine Waters is a known member of a group associated with the international socialists, so if the “Regime Change” quote is from her you can bet she means it, in a bad way. Silky is just a media and general crowd whore, he will do and say anything to try and be relevant and applauded for his stupidity.

ACORN demands that lawmakers pass comprehensive immigration reform measures that include the following:

A path to citizenship for the estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the United States.

Protection for all workers – both native and foreign-born – by upholding fair wages and working conditions for U.S. and immigrant workers and by ending exploitation and abuse of undocumented immigrant labor.

Reunification of families through removal of restrictions and bureaucratic delays. Those who have waited in line should have their admission expedited, and those admitted on work visas should be able to keep their nuclear families in tact.

Restoration of the rule of law and enhancement of security by providing a path to permanent status with effective enforcement

BTW I have to point out this is a big issue for me since I have fought with the RNC for decades over the need to offset groups like ACORN in voter registration.

I warned them years ago this was going to start costing the GOP elections and each time my warnings were ignored. I argued that a repubican voter registration organization was needed to offset these kind of activities.

The result was the election of 2006 and the further erosion this year. The RNC is still utterly clueless and still not willing to address this issue.

But it is just about cheap labor right?

What amazes me is that there is no public outcry against the unwitting and unwilling taxpayer being required to pay for this madness.

    Civic involvements

Ayers was tapped by Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley to shape that city’s now nationally-renowned school reform program.[24] Since 1999 he has served on the board of directors of the Woods Fund of Chicago, an anti-poverty, philanthropic foundation established in 1941.

This became controversial in the 2008 United States presidential election, as Barack Obama had served on the board until 2002, with overlapping times of service with Ayers

ACORN is big in Michigan, Missouri and Ohio. They M’O is primarily to go into minority districts and push votes there. And when you confront them they scream “RACISM’ for all its worth. One reason the GOP backs down when confronting them.

Can anyone imagine if Mitt Romney got paid half a million from the Fortress Group for doing nothing? The New York Times would howl for days. Where is the outrage when it is Jon Edwards? I wonder if the Ghandi like Edwards will tell the Acorn audience how important it is to lead a Spartan lifestyle and not waste money on expensive haircuts. Oops, I forgot. Edwards had his campaign contributors pay for the $200.00 haircut (not they knew they were paying for it).
