Drug traffickers’ assassins linked to illegal immigration cartel?
Okay, this is very odd. I’m still having trouble piecing together exactly who is being held where, and why, and who these armed soldiers are that are supposedly going to bust this Cuban-American immigrant smuggler out of a Mexican jail.
Cardentey, who has a residence in Miami, was detained Wednesday after authorities found his boat drifting off Quintana Roo’s Caribbean coast. He was accused of trafficking Cubans to the United States via Mexico, Jimenez said.
Authorities declined to say whether Cardentey is linked to an attack last week in which masked gunmen forced immigration agents off a bus and then fled with 33 Cubans and four Central Americans on board.
18 of those Cubans were caught inside the United States. And nine Mexican immigration officials are being detained and investigated for possible involvement.
(They’re not very welcoming to illegal immigrants there in Mexico, are they?)
And possibly most important, Mexico is anticipating a jailbreak attempt to spring the Cuban. This AP report (translated from Spanish by Google) suggests the Zetas, or possibly the Kaibils, are tied to this shady Hanoy Cardentey character.
The Attorney General of the Republic (PGR) investigates the possible involvement of members of the “Zeta”, hired assassins in the service of drug trafficking, rescuing 33 Cubans hijacked a week ago in southern Mexico, 18 which were located in the United States.
The Assistant Attorney international affairs of the PGR, Jose Luis Santiago Vasconcelos, told Televisa that the chain is one of the assumptions of the investigation into the incident, which would reflect that hired assassins of drug trafficking have been involved in activities such as trafficking in persons.
Like I said, I’m not quite sure what all this means and I’m mainly putting it up to flag it as a story to watch. But what I think is new and interesting (to me, anyway) from that last article is this: for some reason, the Mexican government thinks that the Zetas–one of the most dangerous murder squads in North America–are becoming involved with the illegal immigration trade, and not just the drug trade anymore.
I knew that the cartels were all about different kinds of smuggling, but the involvement of their elite sicarios in the immigration end of things is a new and dangerous development.
P.S.: this local report suggests Cardentey is tied to some sort of “Cuban mafia”. There are a lot of interesting angles here.

What with Latinos wanting to be smuggled into the USA willing and able to pay $3000-5000 to human smugglers for their services (and Other than Latinos $30,000), this line of work is a natural for the narco-criminals to get involved with.
Over the past couple of years I’ve seen news reports (HT: americanpatrol.com)
suggesting the narcos have been killing off the usual coyotes and polleros and hijacking their human cargo.
Alas neither Messrs. McCain or Obama are likely to do what is needed to be done to combat this threat.
And THAT IMO is to treat Mexico a a hostile nation and have the kind of defensive barrier the state of Israel has built along the “Green Line” with similar Rules of Engagement for our Border Patrol (and if push comes to shove) National Guard.
1. Living here in Arizona we have found, always knew really, that the drug smugglers and illegal alien smugglers (coyotes) were generally one in the same. They often use the illegals to carry the drugs and then cut them loose in the desert. Actually for the illegals it is often worse than that, but it would be racist to mention it. But these coyotes will kill anybody, including Phoenix policemen, Border Patrol Agents but again it would be racist to mention it.

Let’s just keep the under-privileged Mexicans in Mexico, too poor to afford the services of a professional to abandon them at our borders, import the more active Latino activists such as the drug cartels, the illegal gangs and other assorted mercenaries for their corrupt society and cut out the middle men?
Like a not so good book, should we just skip to the ending so we can see that we were right about what was coming?
Oh, and can we finance them and care for them once they get here to bring their wars to our streets?

I also read somewhere recently that there is a significant increase in cultivation of marijuana and other controlled crops on national park and national forest lands. It would seem that the narco-traffickers would be importing their own labor force to grow the stuff here after they have carried as much as they can across the border.
This looks like an international criminal gang trafficking in human beings. Since George Bush, Juan McCain, and Baksheesh Obama are all heavily involved in supporting human trafficking into the U.S., as well as most of Congress, ending corruption in this area is about as likely as Robert Mugabe holding a free election.
Time to face facts. Our government is as corrupt as any tinpot dictatorship.
Smuggling is smuggling - does it really surprise you they’re ‘branching out’ to include human smuggling in their efforts? I’m thinking they’re taking a page from those wonderful jihadis, and using their HUMAN cargo as shields for their DRUG products ………………

ok, answer me this, if they have $3,000 to $30,000 to pay for smuggling themselves in, why do they need to come here?
Start a business in your own country and leave mine alone. If I had that kind of money, I wouldn’t give it to criminals.

At a time when the violence at the border is the worst it has ever been…Jorge Bush decides it is A-OKAY to pull the National Guard OFF the border. Makes one wonder how much of that drug money is going into his pocket???!!!
I think that in a lot of cases, they sign an IOU, and are forced to work in an illegal sweatshop or the sex trade to pay it off.
Perhaps we can just have a chat with the zetas and mafia and they’ll stop doing this stuff because we asked nicely.
