“Obama or die!”: Who’s obsessing about Pooh Bear’s race?
It was an Obama lovefest at the Black Entertainment Television awards last night. Puff Daddy/P Diddy/whatever chanted “Obama or die” and urged his peers to elect the “first black president.” Alicia Keys, last heard spreading conspiracy theories about the government killing Tupac and Biggie and creating gangsta rap to perpetuate black genocide, yelled “Obama, y’all!”
It was one big race-based ad for Obama.
So, who’s obsessing about his race? Oh, yeah. All of us non-black bigots!

The “Obama or die” is just a throwback reference to his “Vote or die” form a few years ago (2000?).
the only people i know of that watch BET (Bigoted Entertainment Trash) that i know of are people that are incarcerated and have cable tv, and people like Combs and his ilk.
Their race has nothing to do with the fact that’re all either sheep, or retarded. And no amount of hope or change will affect that issue.

I went to hear Philly’s own Jill Scott at Carnegie Hall, NYC, on Friday night, and was prepared to grin and bear it if it turned into an Obama rally. It was a thrilling show from a singer who, as Robert Plant once put it, remembers laughter. (Dio you remember, Eddie Vedder?) One call to show black pride, but no electioneering. Jill Scott may (have to) change her tune, but this is how I’ll remember her.
I thought the dude was half white.

For those who say, think, and feel that they want Obama to be prez because he “looks like me”, there’s a lot of projection of their mindset onto others. If they like Obama because he looks like them, wouldn’t they then figure whites would be against him because he DOESN’T look like them? Except, I don’t see that, at least in the whites I know. It’s like they need to CREATE white people with this mindset, so that their world makes sense. I don’t know, maybe you do have some uneducated whites who think that way. But I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. When a black says they like Obama because he looks like them, I’ll take that at face value. If a white says they won’t vote for Obama because he doesn’t look like them, I’d take that in the same spirit. I just haven’t heard it, haven’t sensed it. I admit I don’t have my secret decoder ring with me which allows so many other people to peer into the hearts of bigots and see the darkness there, so I’m at a disadvantage. Maybe I could take a course and learn how to see the bigot inside the white person.

The whole identity politics of Obama bores me. What do blacks hope to gain from a black President that they would not gain from a white? More freedom from discrimination? More opportunity? More liberty? This crap was all settled 40 years ago by politicians who wouldn’t recognize today’s Democrat party.

By the way, I was in Kansas City and Iowa last week, and they are showing this ad in Iowa promoting Obama being raised by his white “single mother.” The whole ad makes Obama into a very conservative white guy. In other words, he is running away from his black American heritage (actually he has no black American heritage; he has a foreign African Muslim heritage) in order to get votes from white Midwesterners. I’m sure the racist Hollywood BET crowd does not realize this.
Obama is trying to be everything to everyone.
I have never felt more disenfranchised with American politics. If Obama wins we will speed up on our march to socialism. If McCain wins we get tons of suck plus race riots. If we were playing poker I would definitely ask for a re-deal, this blows.

He claims to have passed a law which extended health care to wounded troops who’d been neglected. However, Mr. Obie didn’t vote on that bill. Where’s the coverage on that?

A black radio host here in East TN, Hallerin Hilton Hill, on WNOX asks why, if he is half black and half white, that makes him the “first black candidate for president”. I think it is a good question, myself. Why does half black and half white make him black, unless it is to take advantage of race. Bi-racial people suffer even more of a disparity, because they get discriminated against by blacks and white in many cases.
By the way, Hallerin Hilton Hill has all but said he is voting for someone besides Barack Obama, because he can’t come close to agreeing with his platform positions.

The problem is Obie never voted for that legislation. Public Law 110 – 181 is part of the defense authorization bill which passed the Senate in January by a vote of 91 to three with six senators not voting. Barack Obama was among those six absent senators.

I was hoping for something a little more on the sane side of spectrum. Silly me.
Let me be the first to say that I am neither crippled by some imaginary fear, nor am I afraid of anyone on your list people. Change is an eventuality in life. That is how it goes.
But lets break this down.
The only “scary” thing is that people who promote a thug lifestyle (you know, the ones NOT eating arugula, but degrading women in their music, promoting drug and alchohol abuse, and generally showing they are more of a drain on society than you and lgm combined) are going to vote for Obama. Are these really the people you want trumpeting your cause? Seriously. You need to get a grip. Most of the people on the BET shows wouldn’t know anything about proper English and grammar if it walked up in a clown suit with a marching band playing loudly and smacked them in the face with a sledgehammer. They can’t communicate with any real level of respect or intelligence between themselves, yo, so…again, do you REALLY want people like that being the champions and voice of that particular voting block?

Yes, perhaps “Obama or Die” is word play on “Vote or Die.”
However, what if some nutjob decided to promote “George Wallace or Die”, or perhaps “David Duke or Die”? Would these comments be seen as not racist due to word play? Of course not. At issue here is not that P. $hi^^y was being clever, but rather he is suggesting that not voting for Obama would somehow trigger a worsening of black’s fortunes, as if only a black could improve them. This is rubbish as Abraham Lincoln and a quarter million dead white Union soldiers would likely attest. The irony is the entire rap culture couldn’t give a hoot about materially improving black families or outcomes.

I’m pretty sure that Puffy (or whatever his name is these days) — having been active in prior “get out the vote” efforts — has voted in the past. As, likely, has Alicia Keyes. And, probably, so too have an awful lot of people at that awards show (most of whom, truth be told, are in the class of arugula eaters you people find so exotic). Their votes probably went to Kerry last time. This time they’re going to vote for Obama. No reason to lose any sleep or buy new attack dogs or Uzis.

No one, except for ageing hippies, buys the utopian society they have commodified and sold as the ’60s. The war, the fallout from a generation of burnouts dying of drug overdoses, the Manson Family, the SLA, the cop shoot outs of other groups — even Altamont –and yes, the ‘68 DNC are evidence aplenty of how inaccurate their portrayl of the era is. I’m really not a fan of Horowitz (and even a cursory study of history gives away the truth of the matter) so I’ll pass, but suffice it to say, I don’t have any longing to have been at Woodstock. And anyway, I’m bored by the vice-like grip that Baby Boomers have on popular culture and the revisionist history they present.
I know you guys think that everyone who disagrees with you must live in trees, long for the ’60s and spend their days planning how to bomb military recruitment centers, but that’s just further indication of your need to get out more.
