Whiners of the day
Boo-hoo: High gas prices caused our mommy to cancel our “cabel” tv because she didn’t have enough “monny,” say two sisters who held a protest in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Fewer cartoons–and time for more spelling lessons.
Sounds good to me.

They must really miss “The Learning Channel”.
They must really miss “The Learning Channel”.
BoyGirls, you just can’t make this stuff up.Why yes little girls, we’ll just magically lower the gas prices so you can get your Hannah Montana back… I hope their mother is good and embarrassed.
Garbage in = Garbage out
What a waste of parental influence.
BSR
Try reading a book. I know, how about “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury for the parents and some Hans Christian Anderson for the kids? Library cards are pretty cheap.
When I was nine my brother and sister were seven. I know it sounds crazy, but we actually ‘played outside’ and, believe it or not, ‘turned off the t.v.,’ (it only had three channels anyway).
When I was 10 or 11 we had a garden behind our back yard that covered about an acre. Each of the three of us would have to pick one hamper of peas or butterbeans (not a huge amount) before our mother got home for her lunch break. We could stay inside after lunch during the heat of the day, but we had to shell those peas or butterbeans by the time she got home at 6:00. Of course it didn’t take a long time to do this work so we did it and then went about our playings. That was just how we spent some of our summers out of school. Also, this wasn’t 1909, this was the late eighties.
It is amazing to me how some children are being raised currently.
“You know, gas prices are high, but there have been unseen blessings. Now I can ween my girls off television and direct them into more productive things.” (I wouldn’t consider protesting gas prices that productive, though.)
How old are these sisters?
Typical school system failure to educate! Why don’t these girls open up a nice lemonade stand instead of pouting about with some goofy signs? This is typical of the failed liberal school system that destroys the ‘American way’ on a daily basis!
Apparently gas prices are NOT too high. I just filled up and while I was waiting for my 12.8 gallons to pump into my gas tank (I got 28.5mpg on that tank in mixed driving by the way), I watched 3 people driving Chevy SUVs fill their tanks and none of them had any look of grief or displeasure on their faces and they were all solo drivers. As a matter of fact, one gentleman couldn’t even turn off his engine long enough to fill up his gas hog and remained on his cellphone the entire time which should be an indication of his lack of intelligence since it is plainly posted to turn off your engine, don’t smoke, turn off cell phones when pumping gas. But this is the mentality of the people who waste gas by driving SUVs all by themselves, they could care less about the safety of other people and will do whatever they want to do. And to think, these people are allowed to reproduce.
Harris - Wow, you were abused by today’s standards…
If you were a child today, you could sue your parents. Hey wait, you could claim PTSD and still sue them.
/sarc
Why can’t parents see what they’re doing to their kids? Sigh.. I guess because they’re stuck on stupid themselves.
Hmmm. File not found
The link is gone…
Ah yes, obviously someone who drives an SUV alone doesn’t care about the safety of others. Nice leap there, #10.
I, for one, have never witnessed a motorist driving a 2-door sedan acting stupid. I think I might have once saw a woman trying to apply mascara while driving north on I-5, but she wasnt driving an SUV, so I probably
imaginedhallucinated the whole episode.Harris sounds like my childhood too and that was the way it was till i went into the military.
I am surprised they where not protesting that cable was not a right. God knows people today think that they are entitled to everything and anything just by using the term of it being a right.
/sarc on
Remember how Mahoney read the rights on the movie Police Academy…. he said you have the right to cable tv. Thats a very important right. I can see Pelosi now standing there saying how it is for the childern. The childern need cable tv to help them learn. MTV has all those great shows like…How to dress like a slut, Selling crack made easy, how to be a Bit&^ wh*&$ in 3 songs or less, If you fail blame it on someone else it’s not your fault….sarc off/
God help us when we have sunk so low as a culture that kids can not find things to do that is better than tv.
Now that they don’t have broadcast TV, maybe they can rent the original Willy Wonka and learn the Oompa Loompa song?
I too say “Wow, Harris!” But in admiration that you were doing that in the eighties. You sound like you grew up in the same South I did. That’s what my brother and I did many, many years earlier. Not only did we have those chores and play outside, but we read voraciously. We knew how to create our own entertainment. My own children read and played outside as much as possible and watched minimum television. They could spell, too! Yes, this is a sad example of an education system that is failing our children. (Maybe if we threw more money at it…..Nah…) Moreover, it’s another apparent case of parents abdicating their responsibility in ensuring their children’s ability to be well educated, independent thinkers on their way to successful adulthood. What a shame.
Price too high, supply too low. The low supply and high prices of oil have only one cause, the no-drill Democrats.
Read a book.
I still say, Obama is a post turtle.
Pray for that family.
And gardening is a great family activity, everyone has a special chore, there is exercise and fresh air and it is very satisfying for all too literally see the fruits of their labor (learning patience).
Someone call social services because these kids are being ABUSED!
Little freaky cry babies. They are whining because mom/dad have in the past always bought them whatever they wanted.
They should have all of their Limited Too jeans thrown away.
makes me sick.
I feel sooo sorrowful these two girls will miss the quality programming cable has to offer like Real Time with Bill Maher and Real Sex 45. I weep for the disenfranchised youth.
You are talking about a seven and a nine year old. Give them a break. Maybe they want to watch Fox News.
Uh Nevermind
http://getoffmyphone.blogspot.com/2008/06/well-that-was-weird.html
Last I checked this was still a free country. Besides what does SUVs have to do with this family? I drive a SUV and if you saw me fill up at the pump with just me inside that somehow gives you cause to throw a hissy fit? I’m sorry my husband and I aren’t attached at the hip. My dog doesn’t come to work with me. So, by your standards if you don’t see three or more people in a SUV ALL the time… they shouldn’t be allowed to procreate. There’s the liberal tolerance in all its glory.
Seeya Next Media Witch Hunt, I counted Michelle Malkin targeted by Daily Kos, Imus pointing out profiling of Black people and smeared for it nice try “Mud Flingers” stay classy. Then Rush Limbaugh.
WHATZUP with that, Michelle do you know what is going on it looks like Obama’s Proxys are attacking Malkin,Imus and Limbaugh, are they really this DUMB?
http://imustruth.typepad.com/index/2008/06/message-to-the.html
To me the worst part is that their parents taught them to protest and their father is proud of them.
They will grow up angry at the world, protesting over every silly fad that comes along, and blaming someone else for their failures.
And daddy will still be proud.
Bingo! Teach the girls the value of a buck. Have them earn the money necessary to pay for cable… Methinks they would appreciate it all the more. Opportunity lost.
#27 Irving,
That’s what I was thinking. I could forgive the girls for their lack of maturity.
But, the parents are “proud”? This is a good chance to teach the girls about sacrificing for something better. Or, teaching the girls to find alternate forms of entertainment, like playing ball outside.
Instead, their “proud” to see their girls making a spectacle of themselves.
And THESE people can reproduce!
“recycled old campaign signs” - I’d love to know which campaign.
Someone, please, get these girls a life…or a father who doesn’t foster attention seeking behavior. How much of mom’s precious gas money did dad spend to drive the girls to their mock protest (known at my house as a temper tantrum)? Which leads me to wonder where mom was and why dad wasn’t at work.
Sounds like they are possible future moonbats. Instead of doing something about things you dont like, whine and demand society change to your liking without any effort on your part, other than protesting amd whining.
Yep. A little less Sponge Bob Square Pants and a little time at the Sylvan Learning Center in Salt Lake City, UT.
Imagine how proud Mr. Doyle could be then.
I’d torch my car before giving up cable…..
Then, you had better turn them on to Bulls & Bears, so they can learn how to spell money properly.
I weep for our future!
#33 aj,
where you come up with this stuff is a mystery to me… but it sure is funny.
Can I torch your car, before I have to give up cable too, AJ? I may need my car.
I can’t decide whether to say “poor poor babies” or “Poor Poor Parenting”.
Come on adults, grow up and raise your children instead of letting cable TV do it for you. Cable TV does NOT reflect my values, how about yours?
The intolerance of liberal buffons like our friend at # 10, is quite telling. He’s like BO, we can’t do this and can’t do that. Well, why don’t you go up and tell these terrible human beings the next time you’re at the gas station and see what happens to you. BTW, in the last 4 days while tooling around with the kiddies in the Volvo SUV, 6 Hummers, 3 Suburbans, 6 VW SUVs all with Obama for President stickers on them. I think you have it wrong, the most selfish people in the world and the most intolerant are dims. Your post just proves the point.
My kids did everything they could to earn their own money when mom and dad said “no” to something they wanted … mowed lawns, recycled bottles and aluminum cans and newspapers, lemonade and cookie stands … whatever it took …
One of my daughters used to go around in the fall and rake leaves … she kept records on which houses said “yes” … knowing she could go back the next weekend and rake the same yards again …
Another daughter didn’t like the fact that there were certain clothes she wanted that mom and dad wouldn’t buy her … so by age 16 she made sure she earned her own money to buy the extra clothes she wanted …
Obviously it didn’t hurt either of them … they both graduated Summa Cum Laude with a firm understanding of how life and work and money are all intertwined … didn’t hurt them since one is a school teacher and the other is a chef who recently opened her own catering business …
The other 2 girls and my son followed those same paths growing up …
Anyway … I agree with 30 pcs and Freddy … these kids should go earn the additional money to help their mother out if things are that tight and maybe make enough to pay for the cable themselves … it would be a good lesson in life …
My condolences to these and many other young victims of the failing Public School system and poor parenting. These children need to play outside, read more, and watch less of the one eyed monster.
I was reading when i was 2. I could spell words like “cabel” in first grade.
At age 5.
I’m guessing either these kids are products of our insanely successful public school system…or…they’re student’s of lgm’s.
If these kids spent more time in activities that were more physically active and required less time planted on their rears in front of the idiot box, maybe these kids would come across as more intelligent.
Turn off the tube.
Read a book.
@Poster 10
My 15 year old Fiat Punto does 37.9 mpg. Am I allowed to crap on you and call you names now?
Just in case it wasnt clear, that was sarcasm.
i know we have people here who don’t actually have a sense of humor or understand it…so i felt it beared stating.
OHNOS! Had to cancel cable?!?!
Sheez. . .I cancelled cable willingly 2.5 years ago and haven’t missed it a bit. When I was their age, we had a 13″ black & white. . .and I don’t think there was any such thing as ‘cable’ television.
-Abstractmind
Lol!
God bless the little children…
I’m not sure why anyone thinks protesting children will bring gas prices down? I mean, do they think middle-class Chinese and Indian workers are going to see the footage and decide they shouldn’t buy a car, they should stay with the bicycle/oxen instead, to keep American children from suffering this horrible deprivation? Supply and global demand, morons.
And while I’m sure the lefties are all congratulating themselves–ZOMG, look how far the quality of life in American has fallen under teh Chimp McHaliburton!!–they’re not going to suddenly stop objecting to drilling and refineries.
This is pathetic, even for MM. To post a nationwide item making fun of two little girls and their spelling mistakes.
Don’t you have someone your own age to pick on? Or do you put these kids as your intellectual equals? I would, except that the girls are not raging with bitterness and schrillity.
Protesting is easier than actually doing something about a problem.
Well LGM, I would think that Ms. Malkin is just trying to point out that these two girls need to spend more time studying up on spelling and perhaps math-a subject near and dear to your cold heart-instead of protesting. Perhaps they could get jobs-grass cutting, babysitting, dog walking, etc. and get old Sponge Bob turned back on. I suppose you won’t have your scions working either as it’s beneath elitsits like yourself to have a child work until it gets out of college. That’s jobs for the lower classes-ie: conservatives-in you sick view, just like joining the military is.
should be “your” not you.
The mother wrote this in the comments section of the article:
“Their spelling is thanks to a mexican filled school that didnt teach spelling.”
Classic!! Something tells me their next protest isn’t going to be against illegal immigration though!!
“making fun of two little girls…I would, except that the girls are not raging with bitterness and schrillity.”
Can we make fun of you then lgm, for making up words such as “schrillity”?!
#23
“go easy on them”??? When I was 7, I was even allowed to come home for lunch, and watch “12 O’Clock Comics with SOUPY SALES”. And I was allowed to watch ALL 3 OF THE CHANNELS on our TV… But I could still spell “cabel” and “monny”. Oh, and I came from a single parent household also. Amazing what a difference 40 or 50 years can make!!!
These kids are beyond stupid! Poor babies can’t get by without their cable. High fuel costs are not the problem for these kids.
I’m kind of disappointed in this post. At least these kids are getting involved in current events. Or, can children only protest something if it’s something YOU think should be protested… otherwise they’re just “whining”? I guess since they are protesting a “liberal cause” it’s cool to mock them. Come on guys, grow up. At least they didn’t immerse themselves in video games instead of standing up for what they believe.
When I was 10 I had to miss Little League baseball season becasue the $50 fee was spent on my sister braces. I still played (in HS and college) and my sister still has a nice smile. I also started mowing lawns for money to pay for the next season….Maybe these kids should get busy and quite complaining…
“instead of standing up for what they believe.”
Come on aimcifer!! Do you REALLY believe that this stunt was these two kids standing up for what THEY believe? Or possibly what their parents are feeding them? Give me a break
This just goes to show the next generation’s priorities.
Some generations protested for equal rights, and some protested against abortion… this generation is protesting for cable. And it’ll only get worse.
The fact that their parents are proud they’re protesting for cable is sad. I don’t expect these girls to grasp the effects that higher gas prices have on things more important than tv, such as food, but do I expect their parents to teach them accordingly.
YES - “Girls, there are things more important than cable tv.”
NO - “I’m proud you girls are speaking out because you’re mad you don’t have cable tv.”
This is a sad glimpse of the future, my friends.
You must be kidding….
Having “cabel” is a liberal cause… Aj, get your car ready. I got the flammable liquid… which doesn’t any CFCs, of course.
They’re protesting for cable tv! If they had cable tv they wouldn’t be out “standing up for what they believe.”
Well, you could believe in cable TV … I mean, I’m told I shouldn’t judge other people’s choice of religion and all…
There weren’t when I worked for the cable company and the cable went off. Especially when it was during someone’s favorite soap or a football game. I was roundly cursed by presumptive adults on many occasions. They didn’t picket the office, though one of my co-workers was threatened with a gun by a guy who hadn’t paid his bill.
My point is that not just children complain when they are deprived of something they like. Taking it public is a little over the top.
I stopped watching television 4 years ago, not because of high gas prices, but because of high garbage content.
Disappointed…here I thought from MM’s headline we were getting a piece about the commenters here. Nope, instead she’s just taking a 7 and 9 year old girl too task.
I dunno, I just thought the story was kind of cute. They’re only 7 and 9. I do agree they should spend more time playing and reading, however.
D-Hoggs said (#53):
Yes, but I liked the word.
The Democrats show how pathetically skewed is their thinking in every position they take. They use unborn children for a political position ABORTION), use partially born children for a health position (PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION), use young children for reasons to pass “leftistation” on social programs (HEALTH, EDUCATION), and now, are using them for energy positions (it’s the Republicans fault gas prices are too high, and now I can’t watch MTV, and don’ know how to read a book).
It’s for the kids(’s mommies)!
How can you expect these kids to spell properly when one of them is named “Pyper”? Come on, who puts a “y” in that?
She ought to take you “too” task as well. Are you their mommy?
Three channels for a long time growing up. And it wasn’t in the 50’s. We didn’t have cable until I was about the age of the older of these two little girls and that was in the 80’s. We went without cable for no other reason than my parents didn’t have time for excess tv.
We were to busy doing things. The kids out playing. My parents working. Weekend camping/float trips to the Buffalo or Spring river in North Arkansas.
When we finally did get cable, for a year the only tv in the house that had it was the one in my parents bedroom. We did just fine without cable.
Now I have kids of my own and my wife and I have been talking lately of having the cable turned off. Not because of high gas prices. Not because of high energy prices. Because we see what it is doing to the kids. I think we are going to end up doing what my parents did in the beginning. Cable in the parents bedroom only.
It’s amazing, the older I get, the smarter my father becomes.
