Three channels for a long time growing up. And it wasn't in the 50's. We didn't have cable until I was about the age of the older of these two little girls and that was in the 80's. We went without cable for no other reason than my parents didn't have time for excess tv.

We were to busy doing things. The kids out playing. My parents working. Weekend camping/float trips to the Buffalo or Spring river in North Arkansas.

When we finally did get cable, for a year the only tv in the house that had it was the one in my parents bedroom. We did just fine without cable.

Now I have kids of my own and my wife and I have been talking lately of having the cable turned off. Not because of high gas prices. Not because of high energy prices. Because we see what it is doing to the kids. I think we are going to end up doing what my parents did in the beginning. Cable in the parents bedroom only.

It's amazing, the older I get, the smarter my father becomes.

Disappointed…here I thought from MM’s headline we were getting a piece about the commenters here. Nope, instead she’s just taking a 7 and 9 year old girl too task.

She ought to take you "too" task as well. Are you their mommy?

How can you expect these kids to spell properly when one of them is named "Pyper"? Come on, who puts a "y" in that?

The Democrats show how pathetically skewed is their thinking in every position they take. They use unborn children for a political position ABORTION), use partially born children for a health position (PARTIAL-BIRTH ABORTION), use young children for reasons to pass "leftistation" on social programs (HEALTH, EDUCATION), and now, are using them for energy positions (it's the Republicans fault gas prices are too high, and now I can't watch MTV, and don' know how to read a book).

I dunno, I just thought the story was kind of cute. They're only 7 and 9. I do agree they should spend more time playing and reading, however.

GOPGin said: there are things more important than cable tv

There weren't when I worked for the cable company and the cable went off. Especially when it was during someone's favorite soap or a football game. I was roundly cursed by presumptive adults on many occasions. They didn't picket the office, though one of my co-workers was threatened with a gun by a guy who hadn't paid his bill.

My point is that not just children complain when they are deprived of something they like. Taking it public is a little over the top.

aimcifer
At least they didn’t immerse themselves in <strike>video games</strike> cable tv instead of standing up for what they believe.

They're protesting for cable tv! If they had cable tv they wouldn't be out "standing up for what they believe."

I guess since they are protesting a “liberal cause” it’s cool to mock them.

Having "cabel" is a liberal cause... Aj, get your car ready. I got the flammable liquid... which doesn't any CFCs, of course. :-)

At least these kids are getting involved in current events. Or, can children only protest something if it’s something YOU think should be protested… otherwise they’re just “whining”?

You must be kidding....

This just goes to show the next generation’s priorities.

Some generations protested for equal rights, and some protested against abortion... this generation is protesting for cable. And it’ll only get worse.

The fact that their parents are proud they’re protesting for cable is sad. I don’t expect these girls to grasp the effects that higher gas prices have on things more important than tv, such as food, but do I expect their parents to teach them accordingly.

YES - “Girls, there are things more important than cable tv.”
NO - “I’m proud you girls are speaking out because you’re mad you don’t have cable tv.”

This is a sad glimpse of the future, my friends.
