Congress tasks intelligence community to work on greatest threat facing America
I thought this comment in the Corner was funny and sad–people who joined intel agencies hoping to support our warfighters and inform our policymakers about threats to our security have been tasked to fighting Al Gore’s battles. Trained analysts who could be tracking Al Qaeda or probing for weaknesses in Mugabe’s regime or watching China’s buildup or tracking smugglers or interrogating Khaled Sheikh Mohammed are instead cranking out a new National Intelligence Assessment on Global Climate Change.
Yesterday Congress held hearings about it, and it sounded like some of the spooks didn’t much care to be there:
2) Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Peter asked what intelligence was used for this estimate and whether intelligence collection requirements were prepared. National Intelligence Council Chairman Thomas Fingar said no clandestine intelligence was used and that intelligence officers extrapolated what would happen if the “mid-level estimates” by the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change were correct. When Hoekstra asked why the U.S. Intelligence Community would write an major analysis of low to medium confidence that contained no intelligence, Fingar answered, “because you [Congress] told us to.”
This is so stupid. Like we don’t have anything better to worry about.

I hope Michelle’s well versed in science; During the space race every TV outlet eagerly had a “science editor”. After Apollo 11 they became “science and health editors”. When U.S. manned space flight went on hiatus shortly after that, they became just plain “health editors” and it shows! To hear McCain and the MSM laud about “revolutionary car batteries” makes me shake my head. They act like batteries suck energy out of mid-air! Doesn’t anyone ever bring up where all these whiz-bang batts are going to get their juice from??

Here in Colorado they have civilian, unpaid volunteers issuing traffic tickets. I suppose it won’t be long before they are given additional duties and can go door-to-door chumming for violations. The Nazis used these tactics quite effectively over time.
It’s bad enough they corrupt NASA, now they have to pervert the intelligence community? And what do spooks know about global warming? Nothing!
Tell me if I’m wrong, but it sounds to me like the intelligence community went about this matter in a logical way:
1. They were given a task.
2. They analyzed their audience.
3. They wrote the brief tailored to the intelligence level of that audience.
Hence, an analysis that contained no intelligence was written for a body of people that contains no intelligence.
Don’t ya just hate it when folks do what their told?
I would have loved to have sat in the room where folks were drawing straws for this duty. I can only imagine what was said. I also wonder how many of them called the government’s fraud, waste, and abuse hotline.
One just never knows when Gullible Warming might hijack more airliners and fly them into skyscrapers. Or when Gullible Warming might park more truck bombs outside of Federal Bulidings. Or when Gullible Warming might strap a bomb on and blow up another Church or resturant.

It won’t work. We now know for certain that Soviet Russia produced the worst ecological and nuclear waste disasters in the world, and the Left still romanticize them. Just look at their reactions to the actions of Palestinians vs. the Israelis. It doesn’t matter what you do, if you’re a freedom-loving nation then the Left will hate it, and visa-versa.
I think the left has mischaracterized “Al Gore” as a similar organization to “Al Qaeda” and therefore warrants national security and intelligence resources.
Climate change is also now being blamed for creating more terrorists. Bush is to blame… as usual. He’s also to blame for the Lakers loss.
