Caution: Clown congress at work
While I was stuck in traffic on the way to UStream’s Mountain View offices for the From the Frontlines web-a-thon yesterday, I tuned into the Gitmo interrogation hearing by the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties. Serving as human voo-doo dolls: Berkeley law professor John Yoo, who served in the Office of Legal Counsel and authored the so-called “torture memos,” and the Vice President’s chief of staff, David Addington. (Hearing info here.)
Far left radio station Pacifica carried the proceedings live–with unhinged commentators and callers griping afterwards that Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) and his fellow witch-hunters didn’t stab their pins in far enough.
The two-hour hearing was an absolute travesty. Nadler and the Dems shamelessly badgered and harangued the witnesses; Yoo, polite to a fault, repeatedly attempted to answer questions, only to be cut off by foaming jerks who twisted his words or indignantly claimed he was “conceding” some point that he had just established himself.
One of the most hostile and ignorant questioners was Rep. William Delahunt (D-MA)–who is not even a member of the subcommittee. When subcommittee member Steve King (R-Iowa) politely objected that Nadler had not followed the rules in obtaining unanimous consent for Delahunt’s questioning (King did not object to his presence, just the failure to follow House rules), Nadler obnoxiously acknowledged the point of order, regretting that he had been called out. Later, after King had left the hearing room, Nadler personally attacked King and snarked that he must not have cared about the rules enough to stay. (At the end of the hearing, Nadler withdrew those remarks with all the sincerity of a, well, Democrat politician.)
I almost drove off the road when Delahunt sarcastically told Addington that he was “glad” al Qaeda finally got the chance to watch him on TV. He can spin it all he wants, but the gloat in his voice is unmistakable.
Rep. King rightly called Delahunt on the carpet: “Congressman Delahunt’s live, televised statement to Vice President Cheney’s Chief of Staff was an invitation to Al-Qaeda to target him. I wonder if Bill Delahunt is ready to guard Mr. Addington’s home and family.”
Delahunt went on to grill Yoo about the torture memos. When Yoo referred to an appendix in the 2003 memo, Delahunt interrupted that he had not read the memo and barreled ahead with his kabuki interrogation.
What else do you need to know about the utter lack of seriousness, character, and good faith of your clown Congress at work?
When we call them 9/10 Democrats, 9/10 is not just a date. It’s the estimate of their mental and emotional ages.

This is a sad, sad state of affairs. In all my years I have never seen the parties so split on all issues in this country. No matter what the issue the OLD POLITENESS of our CONGRESS is gone. And I am sorry to say, primarily on the part of the DEMS. Maybe it is a reflection of the COUNTRY as a whole. I see a lack of CIVILITY on the part of people I come in contact with daily. MR. LINCOLN said it so eloquently, “A HOUSE DIVIDED CANNOT STAND”.
RI used to have a law on the books where any MA resident could be shot on the spot upon entering RI. They took the law off the books. DANG!
We … the people … MUST get rid of all these obstructionist politicians in office at all levels …
If you or I performed on the job at the level these clowns do we would all be looking for another job so fast it would make our heads swim … it is time to deliver a major dose of reality to the sorry excuses for elected government officials … they all seem to think once elected it is automatic for life and they are no longer under any obligation to represent those that comprise their constituency …
Just ask Chris Cannon … hopefully Utah is just the beginning …
We had a successful “surge …
Now we need a government “purge” …
King and Addington should have replayed the demolition of McCarthy.
These guys get elected because of government run schools. They’ve dumbed down the students to a point where they simply can’t think.
Mojave Mark
Good point … in most of today’s schools “think” is just a word between “sink” and “wink” in the PC dictionary …
in addition it has become a noun (group think) as opposed to a verb (think for yourself) …
When another Massachusetts lawyer- politician (James Fagan) promises to savage children who dare to testify against his rapist clients, Delahunt’s remarks seem almost tame by comparison - - evil, but tame.
How about if we secede the rest of the union from Massachusetts? We can get rid of Delahunt, Frank, Kennedy, Kerry, Markey, etc. in one fell swoop. Lovely.
By the way, here’s the link to the disgusting Fagan tirade just in case you missed it:

What a class act this guy is.

I think I have to disagree with you slightly on this, Pueblo. One of the reasons Congress had such politeness and civility in the past was because the democrats held such a majority that if the republicans even wanted to be allowed to speak, they had to submit to the whims of the democrats. The change occurred because the republicans were elected to hold the reigns of power, and even though they threw them away, the democrats are still angry.
On the contrary, both witnesses were extremely rude. They refused to answer the most basic direct questions. Question: “Does the President have the power to order torture?”, Answer: blablabla with no yes or no anywhere in sight. No wonder the Congressmen are annoyed.
I was laid off from a company that was spiraling downward. Prior to this layoff, I watched sabatoging decisions made and pointed them out that what they were proposing was going to put the company under. Sure enough, after time, those decisions they made in the meetings I was in did put them under. I watched sabatoge happen in front of my eyes…just as I see democrats do for America. Shame on them. I am an independent and am disgusted with how far left the dems have pegged. They are not Americans imo with this type of thinking they pursue.
lgm..yawn
I would never testify in front of a democratic congress like this. They are out to destroy anything and anyone not democratic. It is a shame “investigation” again.
Anytime Congress is in session the Clowns are performing! And while they perform there goes out monies and freedoms. Perhaps if we combine the human canon ball act with these fat-head Bozos we can solve our problem. Point the canon towards the river and start emptying out the Congressional halls and offices launching the Bozo brigade of Congressional parasites into the Potomac!
Of course lgm blames the people being attacked.
Newsflash to Delahunt: we, the people, see what you look like, too. Take that however you want to.
The fact that this snarky moron could just walk in to get camera time, on a subject of which he knew nothing, says all there needs to be known about the Democrats.
9/10 is the ratio of how many times they vote (and/or speak out) against America’s best interest.
