Celebrating Heller
Don Surber has re-written the Beach Boys’ Fun Fun Fun into a pro-second amendment anthem–here’s a taste:
Well you knew all along
That the courts would eventually rule
(It couldn’t be fooled now it couldn’t be fooled)
And since it upheld Amendment 2
Libs are been thinking that their fun is all through now
(They shouldn’t have tried now they shouldn’t have tried)But they can come along with me
cause we can go to the shooting range now
(You could practice now you could practice)
It puts me in the mood for a little Skeet Surfing Safari:
Some conservative commenters here are sad that Heller doesn’t take back all of our liberties at once. But we’re conservatives, and we’re the ones for small, steady incremental changes. Heller has laid the groundwork for many such changes over time.
Who benefits politically from Heller? Obama is already on the hotseat, trying to twist out of his support for the DC gun ban. If anyone notices, this might hurt him in some key Southern states, especially if they are reminded of his previous firearms flip-flop and other radical positions.
Whether it will help McCain and the Congressional Republicans is an interesting question. The LA Times suggested recently that the NRA has gotten almost everything it wanted, so it might as well give up. The substantial victory offered by Heller might lead supporters to think hey, that’s good enough, now we can worry about Hope! and Change!
I think it’s more likely that the Second Amendment and a few more conservative causes will pick up a tiny bit of momentum as a result of Heller. Whoa–these gun-rights guys set the agenda and finally made the Supreme Court recognize an individual right that was hiding there in plain sight for over two hundred years? They must be pretty sharp! What else are they selling?

Awesome …totally awesome, Dude!
Next we will see white water trap shooting..eh?
Yeahhhhh!
If there’s one thing I can admire about Obama, it’s got to be his flexibility. He has bent over backwards so many times to change his positions, he should have twisted himself into a double pretzel by now. His constantly shifting stance would have stretched a lesser man to the breaking point.
“When we shoot the curl
We really shoot the curl…”
Thank you, Flo and Eddie!
I would rather give my money to the NRA than the RNC. NRA gets more done for my values. Most of the candidates they support share my values. Supreme Court finally got the question right after 200 years of liberals trying to take our right away.
If only the NRA could give us Fred Thompson.
Give to the NRA, gun control has a time tested track record of flushing liberals out. The RNC, well they have a track record too, it’s just not very pretty.
I give to the NRA instead.
Bar, Bar Bar Barackaran..
Bar, Bar Bar Barackaran…
Flippin and a floppin,
Floppin and flippin Barackaran…. la,la,la……..
In light of Heller, the Libs might want to reconsider their pursuit of the Fairness Doctrine.
5-4 was way too close. It should have been 9-0. We need more smart justices.
AJ busting a tune. Watch for it, watch for it. There, hell has frozen over.
Obama can say what he wants the lemmings will fall in line to their demise.
Yes, it was way too close. But, at least, 5 people in Washington still pay attention to the Constitution. That’s a start. You better believe the liberals are scrambling to their lawyers looking for a way to circumvent the ruling.
It is interesting to read how the mayors of large cities, like Chicago, are angry with the Supreme Court’s ‘Well duh’ ruling yesterday.
They hide behind the facade of security while their real motive is control.
Good Morning all you Surfer Dudes.Glad to see so many of my fellow Right Wing Extremist in a good mood.
Yes, the 5/4 split was way too close. But we do have four, sometimes five, justices who just do not believe the Constitution means what it says. Starting with Harriet Miers Conservaties finally said “No, no more of this moderate-left nonsense”. Accomodating Republican Presidents gave us Souter and Stevens.
Not too many Narly Waves in Arizona so I will have to hit the pool instead-Dudes. I tried to invite Mayor Daly of Chicago to go swimming but he is afraid of water too.
The mayors of San Francisco and Chicago are already taking the “Justice Roberts has made his ruling; now let him enforce it” mentality.
If the SCOTUS ruled that gay marriage was a fundamental right - and cities had bans on such - the left would be in court today to overturn the bans. But because they rule on a provision not only clearly stated in the Constitution, but so important to the framers of the Constitution they made it second only to free speech and free religious expression, and because the left doesn’t like that part of the Constitution (but loves the made-up parts about abortion and such) - it’s a “bad ruling.”
I’ll tell you right now - even under an Obama presidency, I’m not giving up any of my rights - namely religious freedom and guns. If anti-religion liberals can use Thomas Jefferson’s letter to support their argument of “separation of church and state” those of use who believe in our rights can apply Jefferson’s letter regarding how one waters the tree of liberty…
Which is the essence of just about every argument we conservatives make today about both Democrats and Republicans.
This ruling will need to be expanded upon, and some changes made, particularly where licensing and regulation are concerned, but overall, it’s a good ruling in support of the Second Amendment.
I’m surprised more liberals aren’t pissed.

Its time for every person who have had their Constitutional rights denied, to sue the hell out of those Governments who bullied us out of them.
Its only when it really stings that liberals get the message.
Take a page out of the ACLU play book.
Its worked great for for them.
As a NRA life member, it pains me to remind my fellow MM readers that the NRA had nothing to do with the Heller case. In fact, early on they actually tried to impede this case from going forward. When they realized the plaintiffs were pressing forward, the NRA they tried to get the plaintiffs to let NRA attorneys handle the case and let them muddy up the issues by including things like carry law restrictions, waiting periods, etc…The NRA was told (and I believe correctly) to sit down and shut up on this one. Alan Gura and the Cato Institute had it under control.
Don’t get me wrong, the NRA is a good organization, and every gun owner should join. Now that we finally have a good 2A precedent, the NRA needs to challenge other totalitarian gun laws around the country.
Unfortunately, there are a few big ego attorneys at the NRA (where aren’t there?). And although yesterday’s decision was a big win for freedom and gun owners, a few of them are quietly miffed that they can’t take credit for the biggest gun rights case in US history.
To them I say, get over it, that was yesterday. There is more work to be done. Get busy!
The signs in the Fox News pic say it all:
Legalize the Constitution
and
The Second Amendment: My Gun Permit
Couldn’t have said it better myself!

Let us not forget who the NRA is: the NRA IS US! We got what we were fighting for. While I don’t support much of what the NRA does, I do support and respect their political clout, the clout that the membership provides them.
I am pleased the justices (don’t think they know the meaning of the word) passed this, but can not believe it was 5-4. Shame on them. It should have been 9-0 because anyone who can read can see it was an absolute no brainer.
And as for a license, phttttt! If they can find a way to make criminals get a license then they might have a reason to make me get one. I resent needing a FOID to remain law abiding.
My biggest desire right now is to see Chicago and Illinois forced to change their stance on concealed carry. (I always have been a dreamer)
Wow Michelle, someone actually remembered this early 80s gem!
Makes me want to go out an buy a couple of colt single action peacemakers and a double rig gunbelt, a ten gallon hat, and cowboy boots. I already have a nice little .54 cal. saddle gun. Strap those babies on, shove my 12 in. bowie knife in the belt, (with burmuda shorts and a Hiwiian shirt in this weather),then go to the worst crime ridden street in DC, and let the punks know there are some new lawmen in town. Their names are Colt, Smith and Wesson, and Winchester, and to hell with the Washington elites. God I love this country! Anyone know where I can rent a horse?
Stevens adds a cite which DESTROYS his own argument.
Militia = EVERYBODY
Guns and surfers?
Probably not a great idea at the moment, See-Dubya
The ACLU sues under the guise of Civil Rights and when they win they get court costs. I don’t know if that would work for us but I hope someone smarter that I am is looking at it.
I’m partial to Weird Al’s “Trigger Happy myself. And in response to ajmontana: To the music of “I’m just a love machine” Obama
(um,uh) I’m just a gaffe machine
No one misspeaks more clearly than me
(um,uh) I’m just a gaffe machine
A yammerin babbling fiend
The wife and I celebrated the Heller decision by watching our copy of Top Secret especially for the skeet surfing scene last night. Sometimes you just have to turn the brain off sit back and enjoy the show no matter how out there it is.
I will have to go out to the desert to my favorite target shooting area this weekend and squeeze off a couple rounds to celebrate.
Just wait! I’m bitter and I’m in the middle of getting my gun cleaning kit out because it’s 20 gauge shot-gun day at church tomorrow!
