Harry Reid: Energy companies use “the old Hitler lie”
He accused the coal industry of using “the old Hitler lie — when you say things long enough people start believing them.”
The comparison of the coal industry to Nazis came before his keynote speech, which began and ended with references to “the Jewish sages of yesteryear.”
Now, he’s not saying that the coal industry are Nazis, you understand. He’s just saying they’re using Hitler’s tactics.
Captain Ed has video of more of Reid’s address, though not the Hitler part. He’s just whining about how global warming is putting carbon in that atmosphere and making us all sick and changing our world.
Which reminds me of a link-worthy entry at Ace’s yesterday. Liberals always claim that even if we start drilling for more oil today, we won’t see the benefits from that exploration for years so we shouldn’t try.
Instead, exactly as Harry Reid is advocating in that clip, they’re all for putting more money into alternative energy products, much of which will never pay off and if it does, we won’t see the benefits for several years.
Well, correction–we won’t see any energy benefits for several years. The Democrats get immediate political benefits, getting to stand up bravely to those shadowy Hitleresque overlords of Mordor Energy, Ltd. who are poisoning the Shire and spewing Carbon and Ringwraiths and Zyklon into the air.
Which is easier than standing up to Iran.

This is consistent with the “patriotic” statements made by other Democrat leaders. I believe that Durbin, Kerry, and now Reid have used references to NAZIs to explain their hatred of America. All, of course, are millionaires made on the backs of the hard working Americans who they despise.

For a long time, I gave run of the mill Democrats credit for wanting what was best for the country. Even if they were misguided and wrong in their core beliefs.
I can’t even give them that much credit anymore. It becomes more and more clear as time goes on that run of the mill Democrats don’t really care what happens to the country. There is no other explanation for people like Harry Reid, Ted Kennedy, Nancy Peolsi, etc continuing to get elected.
According to Gore’s computer models if we don’t do anything about this global warming, er, um, climate change beast – post haste. There won’t be a future. So Reid is right about “when you say things long enough people start believing them.” He just misapplied it.
Which of course the democrats are now doing.

What’s more depressing thatn anything is that Reid has been saying this crap for years and yet he still gets elected. It makes me yearn for the Starship Troopers future…except for without the aliens.
I’m still wondering how you power a farm tractor on wind power, or even solar.
Emphasizing alternative fuels is one thing, but until you can power my car or more importantly farm equipment and tractor trailers, wind farms isn’t going to help my commute costs or my food costs.
I find it interesting that a couple months ago when GW was hat in hand with the sowdis asking for more production, they gave him a flat out “NO”, but as soon as we started talking about drilling in ANWR and the coastal waters, they suddenly see the need to increase production.
Take a hint congress, they don’t want us to develop our own resources.
Since the speculators drive the price up everytime some mullah farts, I’m guessing that we would see an immediate drop as soon as we announced a manhatten type project to become independent.
By drilling our own oil, converting coal to gas, building new refining capacity, develop solar, wind and nuclear power generating capability, we could force the future price down and save our economy.
We’re just too stupid to do it and the arabs know it.

You think the SearchLight Bandit would be a little more hesitant about using the word ‘lie’. In an institution that takes lying as a badge of honor Dingy Harry leads the pack. I do hope the day comes when he and the Botox Bee (see how I cleaned that up?) get their comeuppance. Oh, maybe run out of gas in the toughest neighborhood in D.C. all alone?
But don’t you see? As soon as the price at the pump goes down, we’ll move onto something else. It’s our complacency along with Congress’ desire to tax us to death that has gotten us in this position. If drilling in ANWR (energy independence) is an issue for us it must remain an issue even when the prices are low.
If I were from Nevada I’d be hanging my head in shame right now.

Everytime there is a discussion about gas prices at the pump, there is mentioned wind and solar power to be invested in for future energy needs. How is this going to get my car from point a to point b?
Wind farms are dangerous to the wild life (birds) as a california condor (endangered species) a few years back was killed flying into one of these farms.
Clearly, this is the same argument they have been engaged in for over 15 years. The drilling will take 10-15 years to impact the gas pump.
Not so fast, I have worked for a small driller and we were able to get oil into production in less than 6 months. This was from the very start of the hole to the final sending of oil to the market. And, in some cases it only took 45 days, depending upon the oil supply in the location. After one year a full producing well can be achieved. That is ‘if’ you drill where the oil is not in these acres the dems want us to drill where they are nothing but dry holes.
The pipeline already exists in Alaska and the infrastructure is there to create a pipeline from the Anwar site to the already existing Alaskan pipeline. Thereby, cutting the timeframe of getting the oil to market. The drilling example of getting oil from the Continental Shelf would take over 5 years is using 1970 technology estimates. Hello.. this is 2008. The technology from the 90’s is even out dated compared to what exists today for drilling.
Wake up folks, the Hitler Lies are coming from the Reids of the political arena.
Of course Reid is wrong when it comes to energy companies, but he IS guilty of ‘telling a lie long enough in an attempt to make it true’ himself.

swmbo–I like this picture of him because I captured the moment in Ed’s video where Harry talks about flinging carbon into the air, and he looks reverentially skyward. He then flops his hands up and down like he’s giving some sort of Gaiac (sp?) benediction.

It seems to me that those who keep referring to or quoting from Hitler all the time are the ones we should really be concerned about, because they seem to have a morbid fascination for the man. Harry Reid appears to fall in this category.

ethanol also gets significantly less mpg so you will use more, costs more than gasoline, cannot be sent through the pipelines due to its chemical properties so the costs and carbon emissions are higher just to deliver it from refineries, it produces higher levels of carbon emissions than gasolinee, and it causes rust inside the engines using it … and that’s just for starters …

It continues to amaze me that the good people of Utah elected Harry Reid. Maybe they didn’t see his raging incompetence before they voted, I don’t know. Oh. Wait. This country elected Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. Bill, twice. I keep forgetting. Or trying to. Mr. Reid is a disgrace. He’s a prime reason/player Congressional approval ratings have tanked for years. I’d further comment that he’s not qualified to flip burgers but I don’t want to dis the good folks who cook for McDonalds, Wendys, etc. They don’t deserve the negative association. “Dingy Harry”, indeed.

I was surfing yesterday looking for new and interesting blogs to read and found this great conservative blog that had this post from June 27 that describes exactly the moonbat inability to comprehend humans’ inability to affect the global climate. The post is titled: “Saving The Planet – The Ultimate Display of Human Arrogance”. Here’s the good part:
I was having a conversation with a young lady on my DC trip who described herself as “a green person” and that she was concerned about the environment.
After some chatting about how we are “destroying the environment” I told her the next time you fly particularly over a large city as I did while in NYC process the fact that millions and millions of people live down there burning fuels, accumulating trash, creating their own little scar on this supposedly frail planet.
Take an aerial snapshot in your mind and process the fact that even if every square inch of space you can see was occupied with a polluting vehicle, burning brush, trash, exhaust being expelled by everything from diesel trucks, businesses, lawn mowers, BBQ grills, heating devices, cooking surfaces whatever do you actually believe that the earth is not capable of cleansing itself.
Should we be good environmental neighbors, certainly.
Should we be environmentally conscious and protective of our waterways, our air and our surroundings, of course.
I then asked her if she was familiar with the recent Chaitén volcano a single major volcano eruption that put more “pollutants” into the air then all the humans that have ever lived on earth. It is the ultimate display of human arrogance and ignorance to think humankind has or even can make much of an impact on warming or cooling of the planet.
After looking at me as if I had my head on backwards she acknowledged that “well I never thought of it that way”.

The liberals are playing a very dangerous game right now especially with the price of fuel putting the squeeze on way too many American families. It is going to get mighty cold come November and if the second Civil War/American Revolution hasn’t begun due to the excesses of our political class and/or the Pelosi/Reid “do nothing” energy policy, the members of the donkey party will be lucky if they don’t find their obstructionist leadership swinging from the nearest tree more or less holding on to their phony baloney jobs. People are starting to really get pissed in my neck of the woods and when it blows it ain’t going to be pretty.
