232 years of freedom

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 4, 2008 01:38 PM

Hope you are all enjoying this Independence Day holiday. Just returned from the West Coast and am spending the day with family, counting our blessings and reflecting on all that this great country has given us.

Here’s Ray Charles:

In case you missed it on Memorial Day, here’s my four-year-old singing “God Bless the USA (Proud to be an American):”

And one of our favorite family Schoolhouse Rock videos, “Fireworks:”

Here’s to 232 years of freedom–and many, many more.

Happy Birthday Uncle Sam! Still going strong at 232 despite those who wish otherwise.

Thank you to those brave men who on July 4, 1776 pledges their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to begin this grand experiment in democracy.

Thank you to those who are in harms way that make this day possible every year.

And last but not least to the Americans who get up everyday and deal with the daily grind to support themselves and pay the taxes that support those who can’t (and some who won’t) and help make this world a better place.

Yes and they even do it to help Michelle O’s kids.

Michelle thanks for the Ray Charles and School House Rock video!

The colors are flying proudly outside our home as well as on many houses on the block I love living in a military town. The city puts a US Flag and MIA/POW flag on every telephone pole on the main drag of American Legion Drive. There is a big celebration in our local park, which proudly displays an old F-111 Aardvark. They are holding a vintage car show along with several freedom riders displaying their well cared for rides and lots of activities for the kids. Tonight we will finish up the day watching the fireworks at the local golf course. It nice to know patriotism is not dead in the middle of nowhere Idaho and I hope each one of you can feel the same way as we celebrate the birth of our nation.

Perhaps my favorite retractable wing fighter ever! In 1989, I got to meet a gentleman who flew an F-111 for 13 hours straight and dropped a few on “Colonel” al-Gaddafi on tax day in 1986. The bombing took only 10 minutes, but the round trip took an unnecessary 13 hours because the French refused our guys airspace. I also remember chuckling when it was reported that the French Embassy in Tripoli was mistakenly hit. Too bad, it was probably due to “flight fatigue.”

Happy Independance Day to the great state of Idaho.

Boomer, Brian, the F-111 is one of my favorites as well. I seem to remember a few of them visiting down at the main base at Eglin back in the late 80’s. We were out near C6 when they came screaming over head, about 50 feet altitude doing about 600 knots heading towards “little Tokyo”. Ahhh, the sounds of freedom.

I Just opened up MM’s web page here and thought things had really changed. There was a big picture of Al Gore complaining about climate change… it was just an advertisement, but it surprised me. NOT what I expected to see on this page, nor someone I am thankful for! lol

I have been happy to have freedom in this country to drive what want to drive, heat or cool my home for the comfort of my family, and travel where I want when I want… I can’t do that anymore, and I want those freedoms back for my children and their children.

We must drill NOW, develop realistic alternatives..and do it soon.

Happy Independence Day. We are down in DC (from NJ) soaking up some history. Saw the real documents that started this great country. I have seen them more then a few times, but somehow the Declaration and the Constitution have more significance to me lately. I only hope they endure. Simple, to the point, and almost perfect.

Shaking the hand of every military personnel I come in contact with. Mount Vernon today, fireworks tonight. Tommorrow Arlington National Cemetery and maybe the zoo in the afternoon.

Will try to find my great uncle’s marker. He was doing some covert bombing mission in WWII (Europe) when his plane blew up. No remains were found.

I have never seen a panda, that would be cool too.

Michelle, as usual, the right posting at the right time. Ray Charles singing that song is beautiful, wakes my emotions for my beloved country everytime I hear him sing it. That would be every Friday listening to Mark Levin at the close of his program.

Originally born in Ft. Bragg, NC as an Army brat. After Nam my Dad switched to National Guard and moved to NJ to find work.

NJ used to be great. Very attractive to business, low taxes, etc., etc., Now NJ has gone from Red to Blue and the state is going to crap. High taxes, big deficits, govt programs etc.

Still some great people, but I won’t be here for long if they don’t fix it. I need some Red state normalcy in my life.

If NJ goes Obama that might be the last straw.

Why do I think LeadBased is a liberal posing as a Red State conservative?

No, JT, what we need in the South and Mid-Atlantic are MORE Northern conservatives to move down here to Virginia and other Southern states to balance out all the libs settling here to escape the problems they help create by their ignorant voting patterns up North. . .and then voting THE EXACT SAME way after moving to the great conservative South, turning our states purple and creating the same problems they tried to escape.

The more Northern conservatives that move to Virginia, the better! Libs, stay away from Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, etc. Our economies are great, thanks to conservatives, and we don’t need libs ruining it.

Let me address the YouTube issue raised by Dr. Lead Based Paint. The fight over this is far from over and Google has deep pockets. As usual, this is all about money, with Viacom (which includes CBS) demanding royalties. This dispute is complicated by the fact that some performers might actually want “copyrighted material” on YouTube to keep their fan base happy and that foreign entertainers might similarly want such videos posted in the hope of being discovered by American moguls, as happened with two Filipino singers last year. Otherwise, this dustup is further proof that while all men are created equal, lawyers are more equal than the rest of us.

I’ve been to a least WS game in 1977, 1978, 1996, 98, 99, 2000. And I’ve been to six WS parades. I started loving them when they sucked before they won.

60% of their starting rotation is injured. They still might be in it at the end. But if they are not, they’ll be back.

BTW… I can get to Yankee Stadium in about a half hour from Jersey.

MM, I appreciate your patriotism. However, people should take off their rose colored glasses and see the real state of “freedom” in our country. Our economic freedom has been completely trampled by a centralized government that has destroyed our gold-backed currency so they can print money without limit to fund an uncountable number of “programs” and bail-outs. What person that has any knowledge of the principles of liberty that the Founding Fathers intended can honestly say what we have today is nothing more than a wasteland of Socialism. The fact that the government has run up a ten trillion dollar deficit is all the evidence we need that centralized government doesn’t work and will never work. Yet new handouts are on the way! Next up, government medical care. As a person originally from Canada I can tell you IT WILL FAIL MISERABLY. I want a strong national defense and secure borders with tightly controlled immigration. To me that’s the starting point for national security. But we won’t even build a simple fence along the Mexican border. What would that cost, 3 billion? But we have 100 billion per quarter for Iraq. Unbelievable! We’re not free, we’re slaves to the State with their excessive taxation and regulation and counterfeit monetary system and welfare and endless warfare. The financial markets are in chaos and decline. We must stop clinging to this silly sentimentality about our country and understand that it is decaying from the inside. We need to start working to regain our economic liberty, which is the pillar of all liberty.
