Happy Independence Day!
My internet connection is spotty this morning for some reason, so let me put up a quick wish for a Happy Independence Day to all of you–and let me thank again all the troops who are fighting to keep us that way.
One note of possible interest, given the theme of this post: when I was six years old, my dad took me and a friend of mine out to a gravel pit north of town to shoot fireworks. When we were done, he set up a beer can and let us take turns plinking at it with a single action .22 Ruger Super Bearcat that had belonged to my grandmother.
It was my first time to shoot and its been my a wonderful hobby and a great skill to attempt to cultivate. It was all the more memorable for the day on which I learned it. I’ll always associate learning to shoot with a celebration of our fundamental rights as Americans.
This year I’m particularly grateful, and proud, that the Supreme Court has finally seen fit to recognize that right as an individual one.

Learning to shoot is a valuable skill that good, caring citizens should cultivate.
Today I lift a glass to Joe Horn. I wish I had neighbors just like him… You go Joe!
Happy Independence Day See-Dubya, and to all. Happy shooting!!!!
Thak you see-dubya-
Your story brought memories of my Dad–4 years in the Pacific –who was “very close to the vest” and didn’t talk a lot about his experiences—my memories show me how warm hearted he was..
He- too - took us -daughters and sons- to the gravel pits to teach us to load-aim-and shoot….We - too- were taught on an old .22!!
Thank you -DAD - for your service- to all my family for their service and to our troops - now - being ever watchful while serving this - the greatest country on earth!!!
Happy Birthday-U.S.A.
FREEDOM!!!!
There’s a fireworks ban/restriction on here, but that doesn’t include firearms. Guess I’ll burn part of a box of .38s tonight.
I almost forgot….
Treat every weapon as if it were loaded.
Don’t point the weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot.
Keep the finger straight and off the trigger until you intend to fire.
Keep the weapon on safe until you are ready to fire.
…. And if all else fails get the Ka-bar, and fix bayonets. I don’t need no stinking rifle!!!
God bless America, and God bless Texas!!!

Take equal parts of alcohol, gunpowder, barbeque and high speed water craft. Mix to music.
Resultm one fine holiday. Enjoy everybody.
Happy Independence Day see-dubya!
I am glad the SCOTUS didn’t see fit to outlaw THIS. If they had, I would feel bad for the person who would have to remove it from my tight grip!
Think I will run a few dozen rounds through it tonight to celebrate. I hope I do not bust a knuckle!
Except on Canyon Lake, where the results would be several tickets and a possible temporary change of residency.
Happy Birthday America and a BIG thank you to all who keep her free!
Great STORY! Plinking on the 4th is about as pure a theme for the 4th as was ever concocted! We must fight for our freedoms! Freedom is anathma to the objective of government which is set on controlling and managing society. Judging from the great (Sarc/On) deals won by native Americans, government housing recipients, and our veterans have received in health care, pay and benefits for their bravery and sacrifice, we gotta a heckuva lot of work to do.
Seeing how easily the SCOTUS could have ruled the other way, we really need to evaluate how much freedom we really do have in this country. While I celebrate the Declaration of Independence, I must ask whether or not we’re as free as the Founding Father’s intended. Are we as free as we should be? We should take inventory today, not just celebrate with “Chinese-made fireworks” and “barbecue burgers.”
We should also celebrate by dedicating ourselves to defending this nation. We’re at war. Fellas, if you are 17-25 yrs old and medically capable, then man up.
Everyone have a joyous Independence Day !! BBQ and potato salad to all !!
Symbols DO matter. I love all the hoopla and flags and fireworks and food.
Happy 4th to all you homies!
and put out your Flags!
Dont forget to watch the hot dog eating contest on ESPN today…… lmao
and here it’s 115* so the fireworks show I watch will be the macy’s one on tv and using the indoor grill for kabobs.
Happy Independence Day to all, from Massachusetts. Once the cradle of liberty, sadly now the homefield for liberalism in America.
May your grills burn bright and may the thunderstorms hold off until the fireworks are over.
Happy fourth!
While we’re celebrating Independence Day, we might want to take off our hats for a moment for one of the best of the conservative movement.
Happy Independence Day to all!
Great idea see-dubya, looks like the rain will let up a little, time to grab the .22’s and head to the range to pop a few caps!
That was intended for the liberals - right? They are the only flag burners I know (besides terrorists).
Jesse Helms dies today.
The irony. The last great conservative of our time.
He will be sorely missed.
Had the honor of speaking with him a few times over the years.
He was delightful!
REST IN PEACE, MR. HELMS!
Happy Independence Day! Just finished participating in the neighborhood parade with decorated bikes, lots of little kids, popsicles, and the local firestation providing a firetruck to lead the way. I am most proud that I live in the state that voted Jesse Helms into the Senate. How fitting that this honorable statesman died on July 4th, 2008. May God comfort his family during this time. …. And if all else fails get the Ka-bar, and fix bayonets. I don’t need no stinking rifle!!! Don’t forget your entrenching tool. Makes a nice weapon. LOL Have a happy Fourth! Semper Fi.
Some of my favorite music:

Notice the last part of this.
God bless Senator Helms and his family
And Happy Independence Day! to you see-dubya .
This is pretty good On-my-soap-box. At the moment I am wearing this.
Hope no one tries to burn or remove my flags. I might have to use this
Doing too much thising. Have a Glorious Fourth.
Jesse, requiescat in pace. You are sorely missed.
ArizonaNeanderthal,
Love the P-11. My small frame makes it harder to conceal. I am wearing my P3AT but you would be hard pressed to find it on me and I am wearing shorts and a tee-shirt.
Speaking of burning the flag.
STILL the greatest play in baseball.
Dedicated to AJ!
Re the Jesse Helms Obituary; Commented on the WRAL website, this needs a major response
Happy 232nd birthday America!
Best wishes to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and the world over.
Tonight, this neighborhood in good old KC will be consumed in wall shaking bangs, pops, colors in the air, streets filled with smoke and the strangest thing, not a person in site….hum…
Happy Birthday, America! I will be teaching my boys to shoot and to respect the flag. What a great connection–patriotism and marksmanship. Gotta put up my flag! Oh, and txvet2, I hope I don’t see you hauled off from Canyon Lake, where I’ll be tonight with family!
Happy Independence Day All! Happy Birthday USA!
Happy Independence Day Everyone
The Declaration took life 232 years ago. The fight began years before. The fight continues today.
Today we pause to give thanks for the freedoms we have and to celebrate those that made it possible.
Tomorrow we must not forget that freedom is not free. Our freedoms will always be challenged. Therefore, we must continue to honor and celebrate those that sacrifice for our freedom. More importantly we must always be prepared to sacrifice ourselves.
Thought for the day ” An armed American is a citizen. An unarmed American is a subject.”
I wish you and yours a really great Independence Day
BAGHDAD (AFP) - More than 1,200 US troops serving in Iraq signed up for extended service in the military to mark America’s national day on Friday.
At least 1,215 troops re-enlisted for periods ranging from two to six years at the ceremony held at the spacious Al-Faw palace of executed dictator Saddam Hussein near Baghdad airport.
General David Petraeus, the head of US-led coalition forces in Iraq, said he was “proud of their decision to re-enlist and help the people of Iraq win their most important battle … freedom.”
I am currently in London on business and I cannot wait to get back to Texas, where freedom and self-determination are still treasured by right-thinking people.
Happy Independence Day!!!
To my beloved homeland, The United States Of America….
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
Happy Independence Day! I was really blessed this morning in town. We went to our local parade, and before the parade started there was a precious little girl who was there with her family. She was standing on the side of the road with them. Everyone was chattering, talking, laughing and playing before the parade started. She, however, was standing at attention, her hand was placed resolutely over her heart and she was waiting for that flag to pass by. It brought me to tears to see such a sweet little girl so anxious and excited to salute or beautiful and wonderful Flag. That made my holiday!
Check this out! This Florida woman can SING our national anthem as good as anyone…cool story along with the video.

Have a great day…we’re off to eat watermelon, banana pudding, hamburgers, hot dogs, etc…as Erma Bombeck once said, “You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.”
Hey See-Dubya, you never told us what you gave your mom for her birthday the other day….you better not be a cheap a-hole. AND kindly throw up some video of our troops sending some more terrorist to meet their virgins.
Happy Birthday America. This hick loves ya.
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY TO EVERYONE.
Yesterday I had a unique conversation with a Russian who grew up in the former U.S.S.R. he has been here for 3 years and his buddie has been here for 1, as they left the store I told them to have a happy Independence Day, they both replied thanks, I noticed a bit of an accent so I asked him where they were from and he replied Russia, I said how do you like it here in the U.S. they both said I like America, I was telling my friend just wait till tomorrow you’ll see how much Americans love their country and you’ll understand why they do what they do in the world, these are good and proud people here your gonna love it. I said I’m sure you love your country just as much, he said yeah it’s alright. I found it funny him telling his friend he was going to love America and and saying Russia is just alright. When they left they said have a good Independence Day because we are holding their 30 packs of Budwieser up.
Just tapped the keg of Bud Light..toast to See-dub’s mom. Now toast to Michelle Malkin. Now toast to see-dubya and toast to all the folks that play along on here. Not to LGM and his ilk.
NO TOAST FOR YOU!
Yes it is. Thanks, I had forgotton that great play.
Happy Birthday America.
blind mule:
I have an employee from Hungary (sp?) who works for me. This is probably one of the few men I know who gets our freedom. He left communisim with his clothes on his back and a few bucks in his pocket and made the long trek to the U.S……LEGALLY. I was born and raised in the U.S. and this man has taught me more about my freedom than any history class can. This same guy oozes work ethic that most people can’t comprehend.
I’d like to welcome the folks who have legally naturalized themselves to our country…you guys get it!!!
A happy Independence Day to you all!!!
Burnt toast maybe
All your toast’s are belonging to me!!!
Happy Birthday U.S.A.
Long may your flag wave!
To all troops and veterans of the American Armed Forces, thank you for your sacrifices to ckeep us free!
Our troops are the greatest on earth. They help us survive.
Happy Independence Day to you guys and my deepest thanks and gratitude to the troops. I can repay them for all they’ve done.
Happy Independence Day to you guys and my deepest thanks and gratitude to the troops. I can’t repay them for all they’ve done.
I goofed up on post #47. Sorry about that.
The way it should be sung!
Happy Birthday USA!
Oh, say can you see,
By the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed
At the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars,
Through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched
Were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare,
The bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there.
O, say, does that
Star-Spangled Banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free
And the home of the brave?

Thanks for the link to the singing of our national anthem. I get so sad and negative when I look at our country today.. but when I listened to that woman sing my song, OUR song, I got chills.
Thanks again for reminding me of the love I have for our country with that link.
Happy Independence Day, everyone.
