Video: CNN covers the Iraqi motorheads

By see-dubya  •  July 7, 2008 12:52 PM

Michelle’s been working over CNN pretty good today, but I want to give them credit for more coverage of the Iraqi gearheads I wrote about here.

So: neat video here. Note the emphasis on “freedom”, and how this sort of car-pimping was illegal under Saddam.

As with many freedoms in Iraq, they’re still figuring this one out–so far the visual enhancements are mostly limited to black-and-white decals. An emergency shipment of fuzzy dice, chrome, and Krylon is being organized by concerned American hotrodders.

Sure, there are bigger stories today, but I thought this was a good one. (Funny that it gets two mentions in a week.)

The freedom and disposable income to customize a car is one of the hallmarks of a prospering society. Not everyone has it as good as they do, of course, but it’s slowly changing in their favor. This is a very, very good thing to see. Almost as good as teaching Iraqi women to shoot.

I just saw this piece on CNN. Was anyone else struck by the fact that there are specialty auto-parts stores doing brisk business in Baghdad? Certainly doesn’t bolster the “Iraq is a failure” meme that libs are still pushing.

The encouraging story found above, coupled with this story, found in yesterday’s foreign press (about how US and Iraqi forces are closing in on the last 1,000 al Qaeda fighters near Mosul) stretch the credibility of leftists who are forced to regurgitate trends from early 2007 in order to keep treading their waters of intellectual dishonesty.

How arsed up is the BBC? The article see-dubya linked to says:

Uday Hussein and his younger brother Qusay were killed in a gun battle with US forces months after the toppling of Saddam Hussein’s regime.

They were known for their lavish lifestyles and driving around Baghdad in fast cars.

What jolly rogues they must have been, those gadabout Hussein boys!

And after all this time I thought they were known for sadism and brutality! Who knew?

The Iraqis have just got a taste of the freedoms people around the world enjoy, and the Democrats and the anti-war left seek to take it away from them. If they will do that to a foreign country, just think about what they would do to the US.

I remember an article (2004?) detailing a cache of Nazi chemical weapons, that nobody knew existed, that were found in the side of a Czechoslovakian hillside roughly 65 years later.

It reinforced for me that liberals have no idea what WMDs Saddam had nor where he hid them.

When libs get tagged with the deserved reputation that they can’t be taken seriously on the subject of national security, I always think of their “Where’s Waldo?” criticisms regarding the Bush Administration’s WMD criteria for invading Iraq; WMDs that they acknowledged existing when President Clinton was in power less than three years earlier.
