From Kerry to Obama: “The passing of the spatula”

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 8, 2008 11:26 AM

A good read and a good photoshop from American Elephants on the gall of John Flippin’ Kerry:

“The spatula has passed from one world-class flip-flopper to another.”

Simple strategy, really. Get your most articulate socialist, put on a mask of electability to cover up the arrogance, spice it up with media bias, and you have a “new Democrat”! Too bad it’s been tried since 1976. Only worked a couple of times since then.

I liked the report today about BO pooh-poohing (sic) the president for planning to attend the Olympic opening ceremonies.

He’ll set down with not-quite-sane enemies of the USA without conditions, but he wouldn’t attend an international sporting event unless China makes a move on human rights abuses?

That sounds like two diametrically opposed positions to me. Not to mention the stupidity of not playing nice with China. We can influence that nation far more by being nice than by being a pompous ass.

OBAMA said quite clearly, 16 months, 2 brigades a month. Now he says he will listen to the commander on the ground who would say, not that fast or maybe even we need more troops. BUT his supporters say this is not a change. Yeah right. Just like Obama willbalance the budget, rasie spending by 2.7 trillion over 10 years and only rasie taxs on the rich. It is called magical thinking. My 16 year old bi-polar daughter does it all the time. Somehow she thinks she can miss 126 classes a year and magicaly graduate.

Amen to that, AC. However, this time, it will work. With respect to the media advantage, Obama is to Kennedy as McCain is to Nixon. Unless the spirit of Ronald Reagan inhabits Johnny Mac’s body, we may want to get used to the new national vegetable: arugula.

An article that underscores his flip-flopping…here.

“I get tagged as being on the left and when I simply describe what have been my positions consistently, then suddenly people act surprised,” Obama told reporters in Ohio on July 1. There haven’t “been substantial shifts,” he said.

No, no, no. There haven’t been any substantial shifts. None at all. Why, you couldn’t disown your pastor any more than you could disown your typical-white-person grandmother.

Fortunately he can’t. The ‘other’ magic negro was convicted in state court. Bush II tried that in Texas with the illegal alien death case and lost. No, the ObamaMessiah will have to pardon muslims to meet his quota of Dumb Liberal Stunts.
Speaking of change I guess it is time to take down the Christmas lights.

    Obama’s latest quote on Iraq.

“I have also consistently said that once we were in, we had to be as careful getting out as we were careless getting in.”

Sounds to me like he wants to be careless with his exit strategy. Sounds just like cut and run. Can this guy say anything more stupid. As careful as we were careless. So if you weren’t careful getting in we shouldn’t be careful getting out. I just can’t stop laughing.

As my law school professors used to say in reply to weak student arguments in class, “That’s a distinction, but is it distinguishing?”

In 2000, it was one thing to be chary about “nation-building” in places like Kosovo, Bosnia, Sudan, Rwanda, etc. Those were places that had nothing whatsoever to do with American national interest.

It’s another thing to have to reshape two countries that had become so dysfunctional that one of them gladly harbored al Qaeda’s leadership before and after 9/11, and the other was widely seen (and not just by the Bush administration) as a festering threat that had already sparked two regional wars and was definitely rooting for the terrorists (e.g., on 9/12 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, every nation’s flag flew at half-mast but one – you get one guess as to which country that was).

You can rehash the futile arguments about whether we should have taken down the Saddam Hussein regime in 2003 — futile because there’s no way to go back in time to do things differently — or you can recognize that by our military intervention there we have incurred the concomitant obligation not to walk away and leave chaos in our footsteps.

A president can change his position on issues for serious or frivolous reasons. For example, Woodrow Wilson was “Too proud to fight” when Europe was going up in flames in World War I, and won re-election in 1916 on the slogan, “He kept us out of the war!” But when he found out about the Zimmerman Note, off to war he went.

Or how about 1940: Franklin Roosevelt said “We will not go to war over any damn Ding Dong” when the Japanese occupied French Indochina; but he completely changed his tune about confronting Japanese aggression on December 7, 1941.

Likewise, George Bush was against “nation-building” before 9/11, but the radically changed circumstances on that date led to a radical and necessary departure from that earlier reluctance.

Now contrast how Senators “War Hero” and Hopenchange did 180s on multiple issues simply because they thought that by doing so they’d gain some tactical electoral advantage.

See? That’s not just a difference. It’s distinguishing… at least to anyone capable of thinking in terms other than cliches.

I just don’t want a 143-day US Senator (who now has to inevitably change his former, die-hard positioning on Iraq in order to assuage non-leftists during a general election, and to reflect the realities on the ground) to become our next Commander In Chief.

To appreciate how awful a person John Kerry actually is, you have to go back to his first senate campaign in 1984. Kerry had commercials that ran a film purportedly showing him in the jungles of VietNam going on a mission with his rifle at hand. I always wondered about the film. If he was really on a mission, why would a soldier be making a film of John Kerry? That would be pretty silly when the soldier should be doing something more productive. Then I learned what the film actually was. Kerry was so egotistical that he had soldiers or sailors, I am not sure which, film a reenactment directed by Kerry and starring Kerry, of some allegedly heroic incident Kerry took part in. And then in 1984, Kerry ran a bogus commercial using that fake film. What kind of jerk would do this? Well, I guess we know the answer to that question.
