Nancy Pelosi’s latest gaseous emission
Nancy Pelosi is demanding that President Bush release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Gotta do something about those bottom-of-the-barrel congressional approval numbers. Via The Hill:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is calling on President Bush to release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in order to bring down prices.
Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced to Democratic leaders Tuesday night that she has written a letter to President Bush, urging him to release a “small” amount of oil from the government stockpile to increase supply and decrease prices, a leadership aide said.
In the letter, Pelosi said the price of a barrel of oil has risen nearly five-fold during Bush’s tenure and called the effects “devastating.”
“These are the kind of circumstances, in addition to national security, in which utilization of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is more than justified,” Pelosi wrote in the letter, dated Tuesday.
The reserve comprises a series of Gulf Coast salt caverns that house the largest emergency oil stockpile in the world. It currently holds 706 million barrels, about 97 percent of the reserve’s 727 million barrel capacity. That’s the most the reserve has ever held and would replace foreign supplies for about 58 days.
It is not clear what impact a release would have on current prices. The U.S. uses about 20 million barrels of oil a day.

Wonder if she knows the price of gas yet.

The GOP response from John Boehner’s office:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today released the following statement on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) call for President Bush to release supplies from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve:
“With her call for President Bush to release supplies from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, the Speaker is admitting yet again that increasing the supply of oil will help reduce the price of gasoline. I agree that more supply is necessary, and so do my House Republican colleagues who have been arguing for decades in favor of more American energy production. The fact is, the American people expect and deserve far more than what Speaker Pelosi is proposing. House Republicans stand ready to work across the aisle on a real solution to our energy crisis: an ‘all of the above’ plan that increases production of American energy, encourages conservation, and promotes alternative fuels.
“Until the Speaker and her colleagues in the liberal Democratic leadership of Congress unlock our nation’s vast natural energy resources, consumers will continue to see skyrocketing prices at the pump. Gas prices have soared 75 percent on the Democrats’ watch, and the American people are fed up with their endless excuses. Families and small businesses are paying historic prices thanks to more than three decades of Democratic opposition to American energy production – all to protect the interests of their environmental extremist allies. In poll after poll, Americans are saying ‘enough is enough’ and demanding more production of American energy. Today’s proposal by Speaker Pelosi is another acknowledgment that we must do more to increase our energy supply, and House Republicans will continue pushing Democratic leaders to act on real reforms on behalf of the American people.”

Pelosi must be so proud leading a Congress with a 9% approval rating.
Where is the common sense plan the democrats proclaimed two years ago?
Please don’t tell me this is it!!! LOL
Seriously, What is the common sense plan Nancy?
Crickets….
Yes indeedy. That’s what we need. . .a 2 month respite from oil prices. . .which will then go right back up to current levels. Then we’ll have to re-fill the strategic reserve, raising prices EVEN MORE.
Idiotic.
Sounds like Nancy is shifting to the right a bit on energy. She agrees with the repubs that we need more oil and that solving high gas prices with windmills and conservation isn’t going to cut it.
Could it be Nancy has finally pulled her head out of the sand or is she just election year pandering?
Snort, I tried to keep a straight face.
Drill here, drill now, screw Saudi Arabia. (sorry Newt. Had to change it.)
Look, even Pelosi is honoring lgm with her “it’s Bush’s fault” bullcrap.
Hey Nancy, get off your fat posterior and get your fellow Demoncrats together and approve offshore drilling and all other kinds of drilling you banned and year after year shot down every resolution to open up exploration there.
When you’re done removing your foot from your mouth and your head from your a** (don’t ask me how she does both at the same time, she has talents in all the wrong ways apparently) and wake up to the real world come join us as we retake America by restoring the country our forefathers established and fought and died for. I won’t hold my breath on the last part though, the day that happens is the day hell freezes over.
Aren’t these the same dems that said ‘high gas prices today is not a supply problem?
We might have real problems with Iran in just a few months…keep the strategic oil Nancy.
DRILL NOW and futures on oil drop IMMEDIATELY. Gas prices follow within days.
We will have oil out of the Gulf by June of 2009.
We didn’t buy Alaska so we could watch animals mate. Open it up for the oil. (AJ need your help, need something witty to come up with that crazy number 9…you know spitzer is client number 9 and now congress approval rating 9. All I can come up with is that they are both screwed.)
They are now going to try and break that record, 5%, no one can bottom that.
Drill here, drill now, pay less. At least we will have oil in a few years.
We should also start up coal-to-liquids production. Much more sensible than burning food. The USA is the Saudi Arabia of coal.
And while we are at it, why not build a few of the world’s most advanced nuclear power reactors, high temperature PBMR, just like China is doing. Won’t meltdown and safe since it can’t make bomb grade material. Yeah, China is also investing in Coal to liquids, they plan to have their first pilot plant running in a few weeks.
Good post Michelle. Politicians (be they Republicans or Democrats) aren’t going to solve the energy problem in this country. Check out http://www.thepickensplan.com for a description of T. Boone Pickens’ plan to achieve independence from foreign oil.

Seriously. And now they want to release more oil to increase supply to drop prices, yet a constant supply of oil from our own land won’t help. I like how James Lileks puts it:
“A few months ago I noted, in hardy-har jest, that people would oppose drilling in North Dakota because they feared its impact on the Bison, or the now-depopulated newly-pristine plains. Turns out they don’t need a reason. Nobody drill anywhere anyhow ever.”
Congress is only at 9% ????
Whatever happened to “the most ethical Congress in history!”
Wonder when Leno will start the jokes about the Pelosi Congress approval ratings ????
I’m not holding my breath!
Newt Gingrich wants to sell oil. Buy low sell high and screw Chavez. Might make sense. Pelosi is like a broken clock, she may be right by accident.
The Socialists in charge of our legislative branch must have a terrible predominant odor to their nostrils and hair pieces due to the cavity in which these organs have been stored for almost 50 years.
Sad to say, when I was a child, we had a two party system.
Hmmm. Did San Fran Nan recently take a refresher course in economics?
So, Nan, you admit to the basics of supply and demand? It’s how the futures market works. What do you think will happen when we want to replace the Strategic Reserves?
Drill here, drill now! If only the libtards had not blocked a decade (or 3) ago.
LOL Dakine, I just heard that dudes commercial when I was reading your thread. Notice the ad was paid by himself too.

Poor San Fran Nan, she has had one too many cups of the Kool-Aid. She really believes the stuff that spews from her mouth.
Oh wait, why am I feeling sorry for her? Poor SWMBO, she has to live in the mess Nancy is creating.
Think how much power she will have if Obama is elected.
Sorry but this is it. Create social desperation and chaos. (ya don’t believe me? go back and take a second look at their policies over last 25 years.
You got that right! But then, to the socialists, burning our food does make sense because it will create shortages and put prices beyond our incomes. But never fear, daddy gov will save the day!
Thank you -LORD - that she (Nancy P.) wasn’t involved in the latest hostage rescue!!!!!!!!!
Christian Soldier - We are the hostages waiting to be rescued from Pelosi!!!!
Yeah we have oil in Alaska, Texas, Off the California Coast and all the dipsticks in DC!!!!
Increasing the oil supply is only part of the problem. Gasoline comes from a multi-step refining process, and all our refineries are operating at peak capacity. We need more refineries to process the additional oil or our gas supply will remain fixed.
ROFLMAO
JHSH #22 -You’ve got that right and my fellow CA citizens VOTED for her!!!!!!
BTW-
Ann on drilling:

None. He’ll be riding her like a rented mule. And she’ll do his bidding.
In addition to denying human nature, to maintain the fantasy world that liberals inhabit they must also reject market economics in general, and Capitalism in particular.
They can’t stand the truth that the pursuit of individual self-interest can be successfully harnessed for the good of society, without the need for the collectivism and repression of their preferred Marx-based model.
Pelosi and her donkey pals are perfect specimens illustrating this fundamental truth. The law of supply and demand is utterly alien to them; all they can do is talk nonsense about nationalizing the oil industry, or depleting our strategic reserves, or suing OPEC. Pathetic.
This is the face of those who will lose us all our rights take a good look ladies because when we it happens and then we red blooded American males go on the march to get them back you aint getting em back. Yes, they are and have been trying to marginalize us, that’s been tried before, we always come back and we will again. We have been watching the march backwards that we have been on for quite awhile, we wont forget who brung us, I will assure you we wont be there for the dancing. Before anyone gets in a tizzy, yes there are the, what did the lady from Europe call them, men with or without breasts, well those guys. And I know that some of you ladies don’t fit into this category, we’ll do a good screening, don’t worry.
This is true, we need to build more fast, only takes 10 years. However part of the demand on refineries is caused by our ever inefficient gov.
Many states foolishly make their own demands on the gasoline formulas for their own reasons (mn, ca, ma to name just a few). I wish I knew how many dozen different types of gasoline we demand from our refineries, which must shut down and ‘retool’ for each formula.
All we really need are 4 formulas:High altitude, Low altitude, warm temperature and cold temperature.
By decreasing the demands on the refineries they can operate more efficiently and icrease their output at quickly.
Oh but come on, our Senate and House are working so hard. Check out this little gem from Senator Byron Dorgan of ND -
- One day after Tesoro announced a $125M expansion of their Mandan refinery (the only refinery in ND) he announces a $500k earmark to finance the study of expanding petroleum refining capacity in ND.
Guess who his earmark is going to? The ND Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives. That’s right, the Electric Cooperative is going to study the expansion of Petroleum refining capacity. This is the same association that gave Senator Dorgan $16,000 in contributions in his last election.
I must disagree. Soros will be controlling the reins and the democrat leadership will do the riding.
I mean just look at Oboma, he looks more and more like the lost little puppy. I believe Soros expects Oboma will be the complete yes man puppet.
We already have strategic petroleum reserves. They’re called ANWR and OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING.
LOL really? I had not heard that, but it makes sense, this is why it takes 10 years to accomplish anything.

Subject: What a Woman
Give her a medal.
Chalk one up for women in the military!!!!!!!!
On Easter the ex-cheerleader (age 19) in this picture was watching a road that lead to a NATO military base when she observed a man digging by the road. She engaged the target, and she shot him. Turned out he was a bomb maker for the Taliban and he was burying an IED that was to be detonated
when a US patrol walked by 30 minutes later. It would have certainly killed and wounded several soldiers.
The interesting fact of this story is the shot was measured at 725 yards. She shot him as he was bent over burying the bomb. The shot struck him in the butt blowing into the bomb which detonated. He was blown to pieces.
The Air Force made a motivational poster of her. Her name is Kimmy. To you we say, HOO-AH! Thanks for your service.

I would like to ask you a question.
Somehow the 5 state REA’s were able to build a coal fired power plant in ND, completed maybe 12 years ago. It was designed to burn the cleanest known coal in the world. This coal has 2 currently known sources: southern south america and wyoming. Just as the plant was to start Clinton turned the Wyoming source into a park, so the coal was lost.
Question: How did the new ND plant respond? are they shipping the coal from south america or are they buring a dirty coal? do you have any info on this?

Yes, even the dumbest of the dumb learn a lesson every now and then.
PS - love that screen cap. It fits her perfectly.
Christian Soldier,

What does Nancy know about gas?I know she gives me a bad case of it everytime I see that freakin face, but I always blow HER a kiss when I let go.
Soros makes sense, but I’m starting to get a feeling about Obama that his ego is going to get huge.
Azygos, there are several out there, here’s one with a picture of her.

You should stick to the lawyering kid, it’s what you do best. The only thing that’ll achieve a modicum of energy independence in this country is adopting the Karrick process. You’d most likely have to jail the liberals first.
Or better yet you can adopt Fischer-Tropsch process that the desperate Germans used in WWII; being that the US has the largest coal reserves in the world. You could switch over in a matter of a couple of years on a large scale.
Although you’d have to pack the liberals in internment camps to do it.
Good letter by Boehner. Now he needs to back up those words with actions.
That ugly, face stretched old lady doesn’t want us to get our own oil by drilling, but sure wants to weaken our country by taking our STRATGIC oil supply… what a tool.
If a shooting war starts in Iran, we’re going to be really glad that Strategic Petroleum Reserve is 97% full. Drawing it down just as things are heating up is about the stupidest thing we could do.
They start sinking tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, and we are going to look at $140/bbl crude as the good ol’ days!
How would this be different from going out and finding some more?
Effort? Money from treehuggers? Logical sense?
Thanks AlohaGuy # 44
Kimmy’s story was sent to me via an e-mail w/ no link-
and
Yes- John # 37 - I was thinking the same thing- son- nephews-friends-look for my forward!!:-)
I thought the Stratigic Petroleum Reserve was meant to carry the nation in case of a national emergency. Most people take this to mean war or some international crisis that keeps us from importing enough oil to meet bare minimum requirments to carry us through the crisis. Democrats take this to mean keeping prices from exploding due to their hairbrained policies until the elections can give them a stranglehold on the country.
The democrats are like Syndrome in the movie “The Incredibles”. After causing the problems in the first place they come in to “Save the Day!”
Does anyone remember how we eventually defeated Nazi Germany and its blitzkrieg army? Bombed every petroleum reserve they even thought about, that’s how. And with catastrophic losses to our airmen to boot. She says, release the supply! Our enemies say, release the dogs! The dogs of war that is.
We HAVE oil in our hands… we are occupying at least TWO oil producing countries… we should take the oil… if the people there don’t like it, well, we don’t need them or their permission. Where is the strength?
Then why didn’t you do something when you guys were in power (while you filled your pockets with our money)? Sure Iraq and the War on Terror is important, but is taking care of the home font! Not only is our leadership in congress a bunch of crooks, but they think we have a short memory.
If we are really serious in taking down corrupt Republicans, we can start by supporting Sean Parnell (RedState.com referral) over Don “The Bridge To Nowhere” Young. Let’s send a message that such corruption in our government will not be tolerated! They’ll learn the lesson only when they understand we are deadly serious.
I’m sorry, this “Do-Nothing-Congress” also extends to the Republican Leadership that got us into this mess to begin with. Sure the War On Terror is important, but that’s no reason to take your eyes off the ball when it comes to the homeland. I also apologize in advance if I break any rules with the link above.
The math is simple:
Single digit congressional IQs = Single digit congressional approval ratings
Yet another Demicrap plan to compromise the President politically. Would she spend as much time and effort doing something constructive for America…nope. It’s easier to point fingers, or flip them, instead of using them to get a grip.
How is it that the Billions of Barrels of crude in ANWR aren’t enough to matter, but releasing a “small amount” of the much smaller Strategic Petroleum Reserve is going to be some kind of magic bullet to lower prices?
The Democrat Party has to be seen as doing something, anything, about oil prices, but is prevented by their allegiance to the eco-weenies from doing anything that makes sense. So they are reduced to doing things that make no sense at all.
The math that matters to me is the $200 a barrel we will have to pay to replace it.
Seems to me the California offshore oil reserves will be cheaper.
Basically, simple logic doesn’t work for the moonbats that vote for the Demo’s. Simple logic says increase supply and the price will go lower. However, the Demo’s just can grasp that sense of reality. All those drugs they swallowed in the 60’s through the present decade has effected their thought process.
Remember, drugs are for those who can’t handle reality and reality is for those who can’t handle drugs!
This is what they are doing.(Since they love to mention that gas prices went up ‘on Bush’s watch, this turnabout is more than fair play.)
http://pal2pal.com/BLOGEE/images/uploads/gas+pelosi.JPG
Would be great if someone wanted to update the chart with the slightly longer blue line to the right and the updated price of $4.30.
Talk about a “Hockey stick” chart.
They prefer to see a utilization of our resources that resembles… Africa. You know, a place where you have em but you just don’t utilize em in any constructive fashion, moving forward, of course. Sound like the third world to you, me too.
Call me suspicious, but with all the talk of raising gas taxes right now, would we even see a reduction in price? I know, not the main point, but I can’t help but wonder if oil from the reserves was released, therefore creating more supply, and the natural market would drive prices down, would the Dems push for higher prices to make sure this didn’t happen again or some other BS? Wouldn’t shock me in the least. Any time I hear a Dem is concerned about the “commom people” paying too much, all I can think is they don’t care how much we’re paying, just that the money is going to the “wrong” place.
Republicans are so stupid, if you told them to go play marbles on the freeway, they would try, only they would never find it. Democrats are dumber, or are they?
We defeated one enemy by bombing every petroleum reserve they ever thought of, sounds like a plan that works, so what’s wrong with using the same plan… on ourselves?
Why has no one bothered to ask Her Majesty Pelosi, where that “plan” she had for energy is, or is this it? Of course you all remember ALL the declarations she made as the First Annointed American Congresswoman, 3rd in line to the Presidency, right? President Pelosi…can you imagine?
#6 right_on
Great - just the image I need in my head before going to bed
Just crazy to think she’s thisclose to being prez scares the everloving carp out of me!
Actually - President Bush should immediately release 1/3rd of the reserves. The result will be most of the speculators who have done such a masterful job in helping to destroy our economy - with the help of the Socialists, of course.
DO IT, Mr. President!
We are talking economics of the futures markets here. It probably does make sense when crude prices are at the top of a bubble to sell storage to a) turn a profit b) cause futures prices to decline. They probably would go down dramatically to the grief of speculators like Soros. Once the market price goes down the government can go back to buying and storing.
hmmm, now where did the rest of the text go? The above should have read… The result will be most of the speculators who have done such a masterful job in helping to destroy our economy - with the help of the Socialists, of course, will go broke. Which fate they so richly deserve.
Does anyone else here think that the years and years of movies that revolve around the ‘horrible things’ that energy companies do to the environment, have taken such a toll on the minds of so many, that it is unlikely that they will ever understand what drilling for oil in the 21st century looks like?
I wonder how many ‘liberals’ watch a movie like ‘blade runner’ and think that this is what a corporation is all about.
And then the ‘far left’ accuses the ‘far right’ of ‘fear mongering’. Pretty wild if you think about it!

Freddy,
Whaddya mean? I paid good money for that replicant I just ordered and there seems to be a typo on the warranty. valid for a mz of 1 year or the expiration of the consignee? What does that mean?
The problem is not totally with refinery output. It’s the fact that foreign oil is being refined, instead of domestic. If the total refined output was all domestic crude, we wouldn’t be paying $4.00 a gallon.

Yes freddy, I have always known that a “picture” is worth a thousand words. A thousand pictures is therefore worth, well, you know.
Pelosi is right, the SOR should be drained. Boehner is right, more drilling should be done.
Both of them are grand standing. If you’re going to bash San Fran Nan, please also bash the Rethuglicans.
pabarge,
Proving once again that liberals don’t or can’t pay attention. What the heck is it with these people?
On the bladerunner example freddy,
Ever wonder why no one was looking for space aliens until, first, humans began taking to the air in propelled flying machines and then following WWII which saw major advancements in aviation the fifties and the space alien sci fi movie craze? I mean even after HG Wells and his books early in the twentieth century no one was looking up saying lookie here no over there. Now see what we have, even congressmen believe in little green men.
When Democrats make a promise that contains the words “common sense” it’s a tip-off that they’re lying. Pelosi has no plan and does not want to bring down gas prices. She just wants to shift blame for higher prices to President Bush and the Republicans if she can.
Like Obama, Pelosi probably wanted oil prices to rise “more slowly” to keep the “frog” from jumping out of the pot. But she definitely wants higher gas prices to force the country off oil. Now, if every Democrat who wants us not to drill would stop using gas, the demand would drop and so would the price. So Democrats, either practice what you preach or get out of the way!

Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, all Democrat leaders are absolutely brain dead. Don’t forget Boxer and Feinstein, two California Senators.
Honestly, I don’t know why they are hell bent on harming this country and our people. Energy is way beyond a pricey item. It is a national security problem. And these liberal democrat, anti American leaders thumb their collective noses at us. How in the hell can 9% say they are doing a good job? They must have enlisted the illegal alien vote.
