Saving JROTC in San Francisco

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 8, 2008 01:48 PM

They did it!

High school students fighting anti-military bigotry in the Bay Area collected 13,600 signatures and submitted them to save the JROTC program in San Francisco. (I blogged about their signature-gathering efforts last month here.)

Keep the counterinsurgency going.

Good for them, but I think if Sanchez and Mar has anything to say about it, it will not matter what the voters want it’s what he wants. More subverting the will of the people if it passes.

I’d like to know his other reasons.

The school board voted in 2006 to ax the 90-year-old program on the grounds that it is operated by the U.S. military, which bars gays and lesbians, and that the board has no say over who is hired as an instructor.

I’d love to have been there during this part of the conversation. Who exactly did they have in mind for the job?

So he is against providing student programs for strategic planning and the defense of the nation?

Is he also against teaching about law in high schools? I mean we can’t have schools teaching about other government institutions like the Supreme Court now can we? /sarc

On a serious note, /salute to students who stood up to the bigotry of the liberals and their agenda. They don’t care about the military or the troops because their actions (like in this case in SF) speak louder than their hollow words saying they supposedly do support the troops.

The other windbag that was all “I’m glad what i’ve done with the JROTC but i dont support them”…that man should have his speaking privaledges revoked. Thats like saying you support the NRA, but you’re completely anti-gun and lobby Congress for the banning of all guns (to me anyway).

Kudos to the kids of SanFran who are fighting for opportunity, values and their future.

Just a heterosexual suggestion, but if this gay President of the Board of Education (Sanchez?) wants to dismantle the JROTC because of his sexual status, can we trade-off and disband the “Gay, Lesbian and Transgender” Union at our local high school here? I’m getting a little tired of reading and hearing how my tax dollars are being used to invite post-op freaks to speak to the local kiddies about “j***ing-off” more often, using condoms and the assorted “drama” involved in a transexual life-style.

i see. so your sexual preference is the main motivator for denying students a chance in something that’s honorable.

    self-serving scum.

The Board of Education is comprised of seven members, elected at large to serve 4-year terms. From the SF BOE website

He said that even if the measure is approved in November, he would consider voters’ 2005 opposition to military recruitment in the schools as a better indication of their views on the subject.

Since Sanchez is in an elected position, the students and other JROTC supporters have some leverage. A very public campaign against him will make him sit up and take notice even if he wins by a narrow margin. The website didn’t indicate when each member is up for re-election, but I’m sure one could find out.

Perfect summary of the liberal mentality. When the “majority” votes in their favor, it is correct and the will of the majority must not be over turned. When the “majority” votes in disagreement with their views, the majority is bigoted/homophobic/racist/warmongers and the rights of the minority must trump the votes of the majority.

Or, in other words, liberals don’t give a s*** about how people vote – it’s their way or the highway.
Totally can’t wait for their messiah to be president. It’s pretty clear that the will of the people will no longer matter and we’ll all be living in a liberal’s utopia: a fascist dictatorship.

Remember – if what Thomas Jefferson said about separation of church and state in a private letter can trump the Constitution, what Jefferson said about watering the tree of liberty is also fair game.

The day is coming when conservatives are going to have to stage a second Revolutionary War to save this country from arrogance and tyranny such as this.

There has never been one single evidence based research project that links violence against homosexuals and the military. I am so sick and tired of officials in education using their own conventional stupidity as a guide for curricula development.

They should have to provide hard, fast and unbiased research to prove the allegations they are making.

You know, I REALLY don’t understand this. If a group blocked/squatted in front the doors of an employment or unemployment office anywhere for days and prevented people from getting a job — a means to feed their families and a roof over their heads, it seems a substantial enough case to sue the police and city for failure to remove an obstacle imperiling your welfare. A recruiting office is basically an employment depot, so could a lawyer out there please help me out why this avenue (to me) hasn’t been pursued?
