BO: We got “carried away” letting our daughters talk to Access Hollywood

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 9, 2008 10:08 AM

Yesterday’s lead story on this site was the Obamas’ decision to parade their daughters in front of Access Hollywood’s cameras during a family birthday celebration.

On the Today Show this morning, Barack Obama stumbled his way through an ashen-faced acknowledgment that, golly gee, maybe it wasn’t such a good idea and, uh, he’s slow.

Watch and listen carefully:

He’s got no one to blame but himself for this bad judgment call that wasn’t, to borrow Michelle O’s phrase, good for his kids. Yet, Obama makes it seem as though the cameras just magically appeared from nowhere, taking him by surprise. As if the four-part interview were a spur of the moment decision that “suddenly…cropped up.” Horse-hockey you can believe in.

I’ve transcribed the exchange:

LAUER: …some people said wait a minute, the senator is trying to have it both ways. On the one hand, you want to protect your private life. On the other hand, here you are sitting with your two daughters and allowing them to answer questions. Did you make the right call on that?

OBAMA: Uh, you know, I think that we, uh, got carried away in the moment. We were having a birthday party and everybody was laughing, and suddenly this thing cropped up. And, uh, I didn’t catch it quickly enough. And I was surprised by the attention it received as well.

LAUER: Senator, if you had to do it over again?

OBAMA: Yah, I won’t be doing it again and we won’t be doing it again.

A four-part interview that probably entailed hours of set-up, makeup, mic checks, and post-wrap schmoozing…and he “didn’t catch it quickly enough.”

Snort.

God help us all if he gets elected. nyk and her friends have no real concept of history. None of Obama’s policies are new. All of ideas his have failed before at one time or another.

His entire platform is recycled socialist garbage. He’s an elitist and a fool. Listen to him talk. He stands for nothing, he flip flops on every issue.

He associates with terrorists, radicals, racists and criminals. He’s just a sleazy Chicago machine politician. He not refreshing and new. He’s a scumbag.

    Obama supporters are either:

    a) Socialist/Marxist

    b) Elitists

    c) Racists

    d) Suffer from BDS

    e) Uninformed

    f) Just plain stupid

    g) All of the above

I’ve talked to Obama supporters. They are some of the dumbest people. They harbor beliefs that just aren’t true. I shake my head at how dumb his base really is.

Ain’t that the truth. Obamatons have no concept of reality. Most of them live an ivory tower existence, with absolutely no knowledge of history and the empirical evidence of the failure of socialism.

    Don’t trust anyone under 30!

jsr, you and I have had this conversation before. I pay an absurd amount of money to taxes as it is, and I live in a city that taxes its residents with wreckless abandon (location, location, location). The old conservative standby rallying cry about Democrats bleeding you dry (tax ‘n spend, that is) doesn’t hold water with me, frankly. And honestly, I don’t mind being taxed if it goes to programs that aid those in need.

    Straight from his websight:

Obama will embrace the Millennium Development Goal of cutting extreme poverty around the world in half by 2015, and he will double our foreign assistance to $50 billion to achieve that goal

Obama will create new Teacher Service Scholarships that will cover four years of undergraduate or two years of graduate teacher education

Obama will sign a universal health care plan into law by the end of his first term in office.

Obama will create a new “Making Work Pay” tax credit of up to $500 per person, or $1,000 per working family.

Obama will also make long-term investments in education, training, and workforce development

The Obama plan will increase funding for federal workforce training programs and direct these programs to incorporate green technologies training

This universal and fully refundable credit will ensure that the first $4,000 of a college education is completely free for most Americans, and will cover two-thirds the cost of tuition at the average public college or university and make community college tuition completely free for most students.

The Obama comprehensive energy independence and climate change plan will invest in America’s highly-skilled manufacturing workforce and manufacturing center

Obama will also extend the Production Tax Credit, a credit used successfully by American farmers and investors to increase renewable energy production and create new local jobs.

Obama will double funding for the main federal support for afterschool programs, the 21st Century Learning Centers program, to serve a million more children

Obama will create a fund to help people refinance their mortgages and provide comprehensive support to innocent homeowners

Obama will invest in rural small businesses

Obama will create a 10 percent universal mortgage credit to provide tax relief to homeowners who do not itemize. This credit will provide an average of $500 to 10 million homeowners, the majority of whom earn less than $50,000 per year

These only took me about 2 minutes to find and is only the tip of the iceberg. How can you believe the Democrats won’t bleed you dry? And I’m not talking about taxes you already pay, but about new ones that you will be paying for all those worthy new programs, of which the above is a very small part. Getting by in NY is going to go from a challenge to unbearable. You may even have to move back to Red America and you will have Obama to thank for that. What great irony!

Enough, in fact, that it doesn’t seem entirely unlikely that he’ll be our next president.

Appreciate the response - pls. read on:

    Rationality about future invasions of other countries and commitments to new wars, without underestimations of lives and dollars it will cost and the time it will take;

Whose rationality? - who calls the shots? - and where does the info come from to make the decision?
Cost - sounds subjective - short term v.s. long term cost? Just how is that determined?

Preservation and protection of pro-choice laws

    - understood - but what ever happened to allowing the individual states to decide?

    appointments to the SCOTUS that will keep it from leaning further rightward;

    - understood but the ‘right’ you mention ought to be referred to as ‘judicial restraint’. Hopefully they are still teaching it in political science classes.

    no more suggestions of ludicrous amendments to prevent people who love each other from getting married;

Yes, allowing individual states to decide…..see pro-choice…

    an end to prohibitions that hinder scientific progress and discovery put into place simply to pander to a small segment of the society;

There’s usually no hindering when it’s at private expense, it’s research at tax payer expense that I and probably most of us here oppose. (I assume you meant stem cell research but if you were referring to cloning - I don’t go there…yet)

greater transparency from the White House; a VP who doesn’t try to assert that s/he is his/her own branch of government; an EPA that isn’t consistently forced to change its findings; a president less committed to the idea of staying every course to save face. I could go on, but you get the picture.

I do but I think that’s MSM spin. As far as Bush saving face, I think he really believes ‘his course’……besides, as much flak he takes from the press, the guy has no ‘face’ left!

    misscheryl,

The main problem with the MTV/myspace generation is that most of them got pretty much anything they wanted. Technology was cheap. I remember when only rich people had a VCR, microwave, a TV bigger than 26″. Forget about the PC that cost $5,000.

They were all told how special they were. They all got trophies no matter what place they came in. They played to a tie. There were no losers only winners.

Group think is big with this generation. When Obama promises that everyone wins, it is what they’ve been hearing their entire lives. From the MSM to higher education is one big liberal brainwashing.

They all think they can participate in this great social experiment. The truth is that if they turn America into France, the same people will be the haves. Only the type of govt will change. The have nots will become even worse under socialism.

When these young elites get left out of the game, then maybe they’ll realize how wrong they’ve been.

Usually the people that work for a living (non-academics) become at least more moderate as they get older.

Wouldn’t you rather to the foot work and aid those in need by donating time to the church or soup kitchen? That’s another thing Obama supporters have rationalized. Higher taxes will go directly to those in need. That’s a weasel line worth 60 billion.

Why does it have to be one or the other? I volunteer when I can, but all those organizations you can volunteer for? They need money to do what they do.

besides, as much flak he takes from the press, the guy has no ‘face’ left!

I’d argue that it’s well deserved flak.

To me charity means getting your hands dirty, not wearing your charity on your sleeve through tax increases. Habitat for Humanity was the only thing I’ll ever give Carter credit for.

You know, I don’t mind either but I would like to be the one to select the programs that get my tax dollars. I’d like to see those programs listed on the ballot (ok, major ones) and allow us voters to select which ones get the $$. How about picking 10 programs out of a list of 20…We could select the programs that give the biggest bang for the buck. That’s how I donate my money now…

Mmmm…I know what you’re saying, because we all have our pet causes, or at least things we support more than others. But I don’t know that this idea is feasible, aside from at a local level. Nationally, there are far too many (and I’d argue necessary) organizations in operation for this to work out well, I think.

At any rate, I appreciated your point-for-point reponse to my post earlier.

And did you catch the equal time afforded McCain (crickets chirping).

    Nice. Balanced. No bias here.

Obama happened to be on the show when the story was breaking, thus they were able to get some instant feedback. McCain’s camp (understandably) hadn’t had any sort of time to fashion a response, so not much equal time the could give him.

Then they should have gone on with their planned interview and left the “pre-presidential” stuff (”what do you think” vs. “what would you do if you were president?”) for later. How is it that Obama’s camp had time to “fashion a response” if it just happened?

Not that it was much of a response, mind you.

Just looking for bias and finding it. After the Bush TANG/Kerry Swiftboat coverage, not much surprises me when it comes to the liberal media.

Please stop talking like the 20’s and 30’s age groups of NYC are the forefront of the political thought in the country. Also, having a finger on the pulse of youth marketing or media (MTV) doesn’t make you a savant about folks in those age groups.

I have a proble with anyone speaking for people in their 20’s and 30’s like they have any sociological or statistical expertise. Look, I’m 33, but I don’t fit into your demographic. I’m also an educated woman who believes that I should be electing a “leader” not the next contestant for American Idol.

I don’t think you, or any other liberal, have any clue about the military. Military members like my husband, are just convenient pawns to Obummer and his supporters. You’re not different from the far lefties that denigrate Pres. Bush and the military.

As for the black vote… it’s pretty easy there. Since you and Dems alike believe in identity politics, not politics that transcends race. That’s pretty pathetic for someone who claims they’re “exercising their vote.”

As you say many times, “you and I will have to agree to disagree.” To even insinuate that that either you, or Obummer, or his other deluded supporters have any knowledge of the military beyond popular movies is just plain misguided and disengenuous.

That’s the real shame of this election: it’s neither about issues or about the right direction for this country. No, when the country has become dumbed-down by liberal policies (and I’ve been a teacher for 5 years), it really is no surprise when nobody, even you, can look past the pretty face to the real person behind the political mask.

If you think giving back to the country means voting in an imposter like Obummer, by my guest. However, I think millions of men and women in our Armed Forces may dispute your version of “giving back.”
