Pelosi flails: Drilling is a “hoax”
Pity poor Nancy Pelosi. Pity:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Thursday shut the door on expanding oil and gas drilling beyond areas that have already been approved for energy exploration, drawing a clear distinction from her counterparts in charge of the Senate.
“This call for drilling in areas that are protected is a hoax, it’s an absolute hoax on the part of the Republicans and this administration” Pelosi said at her weekly press conference. “It’s a decoy to punt your attention away from the fact that their policies have produced $4-a-gallon gasoline.”
Pelosi’s stand may put her at odds with a growing number of members of the Democratic Caucus who have been moving toward possible compromises with Republicans on ways to expand domestic energy production.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Wednesday told reporters that expanded offshore drilling is not off the table, and that Democrats will take a look at whether states should be able to choose to drill off their coasts. “I’m not knee-jerk-opposed to anything,” Reid said.

That you and your insane ilk believe that a “potential of 40 billion barrels in the Gulf of Mexico” is all we need to be drilling to increase supply. Science and hard facts on how that 40 billion number estimate came about please? Ocean depths, type of rock formations and rock depth, and instruments used to make this determination would be a nice start. When your done with that
explain the hypocrisy on why it is okay to drill just there and not in all available oil resources that would drastically increase oil supply.

Gas in Mexifornia is already over $5. Maybe when it gets to $6, the people in her district will get this idiot out of Congress.

I’m guessing someone’s already mentioned this, but I’ll throw it out there anyway. Stupid Pelosi called for oil to be let out of the Strategic Reserve, thus admitting greater supply would lower prices.
Drilling would also create a greater supply, thus lowering prices, but apparently that’s a bad idea. How the f can someone be this g****mn stupid and rise to this level of power?
Or “make the speculators put up 50 percent instead of the 5 they do now. Would help.”
Or do something that does not harm or inconvenience the airlines and other companies who legitimately do this, and makes it not profitable for the people who trade this on paper, and do nothing but drive up the price to get rich.

I wish I could say I was surprised by the shear stupidity of San Fran Nan, but I think either the botox has eaten away her small weak mind or she is out to commit suicide. They have a whole lot of Senators and Congressmen to thank for that. Do not drill, do not build refineries, do not build power plants or mine more coal, now freeze you butt of this winter.

By hoax, Nancy, do you mean a deception of voters like the one you used to become Speaker in 2006. Remember when you promised voters that you had a common sense plan to lower gas prices? Is that the type of hoax you’re talking about?
If you really believe it’s a hoax, Nancy, call their bluff! Dare Republicans to drill in ANWR and expose their deception to the whole world. Wouldn’t that be worth it? It would allow you to remain in power until you’re older than McCain’s mother - unless, of course, the hoax exposed is the one you and your fellow Democrats are perpetuating.
Why doesn’t someone call Pelosi’s bluff and say, “OK, arguendo, let’s assume more drilling won’t help ”
But encouraging more refineries to be built, by jettisoning the hundreds of regs and NIMBY suits that have stymied their construction the past 30 years, WOULD have an impact in less than five years, WOULD have an impact on gasoline price (both by increasing supply during peak demand periods AND by cutting the costs of transportation and distribution), and WOULD decrease our dependency on foreign gasoline, which we now have to import.

From the perspective of fifty plus years in the oil business, the liberal blather about not drilling existing leases reveals their ignorance. Companies paid billions for those leases, many have been drilled, some unsuccessfully, others have been downgraded by seismic or are beyond present technical and logistical limits but are under no compulsion to forfeit them.
They are only asking to drill in areas where there are known/probable reserves based on geology and proximity to existing production.
There is no rational environmental reason not to drill ANWR and offshore.
Years ago the surrendercrats ran ads saying the evil Republicans were cutting something or other for seniors…because the program was getting a 5% increase instead of 9% or something like that.
I believe it was Little Dick Gebhardt (thanks BS) who said Republicans wanted to starve seniors and throw them in the street.
Seems with $4.65 per gallon, surrendercrats don’t want those seniors driving down the streets, never mind affording food or health care.
Interesting how things change.

Gas prices are affecting everyone, whether you’re red, blue, or something in between. Pelosi wants to spend her time pointing fingers instead of solving the problem in the most logical way — by letting us find more oil.
Mme. Speaker, we can’t just drop our internal combustion engines overnight. You know that. Until cleaner technology is ready for the masses, admit that we need to drill. Now.
If what your party says is correct and it’ll take ten years to produce oil from new rigs, we’d better get started!
Enough of the paranoid what if’s. Pretend that the oil companies will actually protect the environment the best they can, which they will since they know the government and the environmentalists will be keeping their eyes on them.

No, failure to allow drilling in ANWR is not a Reid-Pelosi policy, it’s a continuation of long-standing policy, and is not a cause of the spike in gas prices.

How does Pelosi says this stuff with a straight face??? The only hoax I see going on is the democrats creating an artificial shortage of domestically produced oil, and then complaining that we’re too dependent on foreign oil!
