Dem convention tries to spin their bizarre “greening” program

By see-dubya  •  July 11, 2008 12:16 PM

Via Captain Ed, I see the Dems are doing a little damage control about their fried foods ban. Even the Washington Post is still ribbing their requirements mercilessly:

…if you must know, for your own reasons, here they are:

“Lean: Half of the meal (or 50 percent) of the plate is made up of fruits and/or vegetables. A colorful meal — include at least three of the following five colors: red, green, yellow, blue/purple, and white (garnishes not included). No items are to be fried.

“Green: 70 percent or more of ingredients by pre-cooked weight are certified organic and/or grown or raised in Colorado. 70 percent or more of ingredients by pre-cooked weight are fresh (and not pre-processed).”

Mocking these standards would be wrong. Especially after the committee’s strong statement posted on its Web site, entitled “Fiction Fuels Frivolous Food Fight.”

As the committee’s Greening Director, Parry Burnap, explained in the statement –

Wait!

Greening Director? Is that like, Dancing Instructor? Or Tanning Protector? Or Programming Selector?

That piece is one of the funnier things I’ve ever read in the Washington Post, though that’s not a particularly high bar, I guess. But even the MSM has noticed that the Democrats–including convention planner Leah Daughtry–are taking themselves verrrrrrry seriously.

I noticed that still unaddressed by the Dems’ salad-spinning rebuttal (.pdf here) is Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper’s marvelously revealing statement that eating healthy is “the new patriotism“.

Because, you know, he actually said that. And the Dems ought to have to deal with it.

Here’s a newsflash for the Democrats: modern pesticides and farming methods were developed over centuries for good reason. That reason is that if we switched over to “organic” farming we wouldn’t be able to produce enough food to feed our population.

Now, if the Liberals are volunteering to be the ones to starve then I’m all for this idea. Otherwise they need to STFU.

I guess this means that the DNC will never get to hold a convention in New Orleans.

Because somehow I can see the rich, white, PC snobs who run the DNC caring more about arugula than about bonding with the poor oppressed black people in the South.

Heard this on XM last week:

The host committee for the Democratic National Convention wanted 15,000 fanny packs for volunteers. But they had to be made of organic cotton. By unionized labor. In the USA.

Official merchandiser Bob DeMasse scoured the country. His weary conclusion: “That just doesn’t exist.”

Reality must suck for the DNC.

Only someone from Wyoming would call Cheyenne a “big city.”

Actually, it’s a different kind of “siding”:

Apologies to all you Easterners for drifting off-topic, but I have a suggestion (especially you Democrats going to Denver): Drive up to Tie Siding, Wyoming and sit outside the post office. Reality and your sanity will return in a few minutes. You might even become a conservative.
