I lived in San Francisco during the 1980s, then moved to Chicago due to lack of work, since advertising agencies quit hiring in the city by the bay. Once I left, I felt like I'd been released from jail. Not nearly the PC madness and constant gay BS I was assaulted with for years. I don't miss the people. Pretty city, ugly people, San Francisco. Chicago? Ugly politics, pretty women. One up on San Francisco, at least.

See-Dubya, I lived in Sunnyvale for 5 years (1996 - 2001). Loved everything except for the congestion and taxes. Moved to Florida to give myself an 8.5% raise (no state income tax). Scenery is not as nice, but its a lot more affordable. Good luck in your new digs.

see-dubya, if you're not coming to Texas, you aren't likely to find that on the "other" left coast.

BTW, we do have a coast here in Texas. We call it the Gulf Coast. C'mon down, y'all, and you will find the country that was...unless you go to Austin. ;-)

Welcome to the fleeing crowd leaving CA. Left Christmas Day 2006 for Alabama. Note to California: Your no longer the Golden State but the State of Lost Dreams. Spent 40 years of my life there. We have found many California retirees here including a CHP Captain. Welcome to the free world See-Dubya.

Funny, I just got back from a week in California. It's beautiful and I had a blast, but I am so darn happy to be home (Georgia). Good luck adjusting to the real world (a/k/a red state America).

I left California 12 years ago. Was born and raised there - in San Francisco no less. Started moving east and south in the 70's, but improvement was minimal. Finally got completely fed up and went to Oregon. Little did I think that the Californication would follow me here, but I was wrong. The western side of this state is progressively (pun intended) more and more of a nanny state, and the enviruses have most of it locked up in litigation so that no one can make a living. Naturally, this makes all those former loggers and mill workers and fishermen think the nanny state is the only way to go.

I hope your eastern migration works out better. Looking forward to hearing about it.

Why Wyoming, Alabama, Kansas? Solidly Republican, geographically diverse, leaches on the body America (getting more federal subsidies than they pay in taxes), not Missouri (my home state).

Die Hippie, Die said (#112):

I think lgm’s pissed at Wyoming because it was the scene of Matthew Shepard’s last drunken barroom pickup attempt.

This incident of murderous bigotry is nothing for Wyoming to be proud of.

kcnut said (#128):

dont ever insult my home state of kansas again.

OK, only one more time. In Missouri we had a joke about Kansas: "Did you hear about the guy who moved from Missouri to Kansas and raised the IQ of both states?"

Holy cow, I just looked at the map, apparently 5-Guys are all over now. Just about three years ago they were nowhere but the D.C. area, incredible! And a testament to how incredible their burgers are!

My wife and I pulled the plug on the "Golden State" back in 1992. I can honestly say that I very rarely miss it. We've got twice the house at a quarter the cost in North Carolina with wages that are the same.... better beaches too.

Nope, I don't miss it at all.
