Of course not. Shouldn’t we always avoid listening to a candidate’s answer and instead replace it with an answer given by someone else ?
I always do. That’s why I always quote John McCain as having said “We have sort of become a nation of whiners”.
So let’s disregard what Obama actually said and replace it with what we pretend he said. Much easier that way.

I hate to say this but I agree with the Obama campaign, the New Yorker cover is tasteless and offensive. It doesn’t matter whether they’re trying to poke fun at the Obama’s or at the alleged worst fears of conservatives. Crap is crap and the New Yorker isn’t fit to swat flies with.
That said… Man up dude, politics is a contact sport and you have to be tough enough to take a few cheap hits.

The difference is that here, those extreme positions are really in the minority. At places like Kos, DU etc., they are the majority of opinion. A simple count on any topic will verify that.
Also, your analogues on DU or Kos or anywhere else are simply banned, whereas here, you are allowed to state your opinion, and others are allowed to criticize it if they can.
Go ahead nyk, RSS, or lgm. Pretend to be a conservative on one of your “tolerant” liberal sites and see how fast you are deleted.
Clearly, the liberals are afraid of criticism. The so called “Fairness Doctrine” proves that unequivocally.
Again, the difference is that while the lefties look at the media and proclaim that it is conservative, any number of sites tabulate the liberal bias of the press. It is too easy, sad to say.
So in this case, the conservatives have a legitimate grievance, while liberals simply contrive them. And I work at an institution of higher learning, and the liberalism is palpable and oppressive.
Were there no truth to the cover, no one would take it seriously enough to be offended. It would be laughed off, as so ridiculous and over the top. But Obama’s actions for decades have led many people to believe exactly what is depicted, whether or not the artist meant it as satire. I think he nailed it.

Marcus Garvey also proposed a “back-to-Africa movement” back in the day when conditions were overly oppressive. I know about some of your issues, but I don’t know of any racial animous inside of you, but if you are anti-Black, people like you, Emjem, lilBit-boy, Leatherneck, and Cheryl would virtually cry tears of joy if all Black people were to return to Africa today.
Back to the thread. It’s simple political satire, and Obama’s people would be smart to laugh this type of stuff off, and save anger for when and if it’s needed.

The problem with the cover of the magazine is that it is too close to the truth. Obama is a socialist. His family and upbringing involved an extensive amount of Muslim activity and he appears to favor the Muslim community in his policies. His wife comes off as abrasive and sarcastic – and attack dog mentality. The burning American flag relates to his refusal to wear an American flag pin and his world first attitude. Finally, we don’t really know how Obama will treat world terrorism but we do know that he is in the appeasement mode when it comes to Iran, the center of world Islamic extremism.
I’d only want Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, et al, and their followers to go back to Africa. If they hate America and whites so much, they can leave and live with those who “look like themselves”.
To be fair, I’d love to ship out lgm, rusty and their ilk too. Then Jackson and Sharpton would have their own whipping boys when they are “preaching”.
I think I look up to black people more than MJ does. Charles Drew, Booker T. Washington, Tom Sowell et. al, all are pretty top notch. Malcolm X was assassinated by his own kind because he was a tool.
The problem is the cover encourages people to talk about the “lies” about Obama such as he’s a Muslim. This is the Obama campaign strategy. It detracts from talking about who he really is. In this way the cover is very pro-Obama and is just the kind of focus the Obama campaign wants, even as they say otherwise.
Real questions like, Obama, was your natural father a Muslim, was your stepfather a Muslim, did you study the Koran in school, did you memorize verses from it, did you pray in a mosque. And some may say “so what”. So, at least these are real questions meant to get at a truth. Not this BS “Such and such percentage of people believe Obama is a Muslim and was sworn in to the Senate on a Koran”. People shake their heads and cluck their tongues at the stupid bigoted right-wingers. That is BS. To dispel ignorance, replace it with the facts. The truth. Not about what isn’t the truth. That is smoke and mirrors.
Obama’s religion? Is he a Muslim? No, he worshipped at a left-wing, black liberation theology (read black power and whitey-hating), african-centric church in Chicago. That’s his “religion”.

Issues like this cause fatigue, and boredom. Race relations are at an all-time high in this great country, and white guilt(even for moderates and liberals) is becoming passe. Issues like this may cause a voter to think,
“If I vote for this guy, will there be some big corny racial issue to debate about and ponder every other day, or week, or month….maybe I’ll take another look at McCain, who maybe ain’t as bad as Bush, and we won’t have to keep dealing with the whole Black thing”. It gets exhausting Paul, and I really think Obama and his people should laugh this off, and if the so-called liberal media really wants Obama elected, they’ll stop racializing every freaking thing. A friend of mine called to say that it was difficult to find the magazine in NYC. Many of the newsstands claimed that it wasn’t delivered to them. After many tries, one was found. It might be a collectors item.The cartoon looks like it belongs on the cover of Mad Magazine.

Slobbering idiots like Matthews will help blow this election for Obama. Obama should get the image made into a t-shirt, and wear it to his next speech, and walk out with a big smile on his face. On the back of the t-shirt, it should read, “Don’t swiftboat me, bro”. It would be an iconic moment, and propel him far ahead in the polls. Screw the victimhood. MJ does make some good points. Her and I sometimes agree, and she normally makes a decent argument. I dont see where she’s being entirely off the wall, and seems to be taking a few hits from people even with a good argument.

For the record – I am sick to death of those persons who are black believing that whitey owes them something. I’m sick to death of thier passive aggressive behavior toward white people. AND, I’d feel the same way about purple people if they were so disrespectful and hateful to their fellow man! Lots of black democrats are all about rejecting victimhood, embracing self-reliance, and taking care of our own homes and communities. I reject the notion that these beliefs are inconsistent with being a democrat.
I’m probably a moderate on most issues, and liberal on others. There are a few issues (like the 2nd amendment), in which I’m very conservative. I haven’t seen a Republican who shares the majority of my beliefs.

Not everything is about racism. I don’t care what color a man (or woman) is when running for president. The policies, knowledge about issues, experience, integrity, and honesty of a person are what counts the most. I disagree with almost every position Obama stands for (especially his infanticide abortion views) and because of it, would NEVER vote for him. Does that make me a racist?
If the Obama campaign had a sense of humor and just laughed it off rather than whining and crying foul it would have been over in a day.
