Bush news conference: Oil, economy, war; Reporter: “Why have you not called on Americans to drive less and turn down their thermostats?”
President Bush will meet the press at 10:20am this morning to push the Dems on offshore drilling (after finally lifting the executive ban his dad signed), pressure them on spending bills, and attempt to calm world markets about the state of the US economy.
What would you ask him?
***
AP reporter Mark Smith wants Bush to do an Obama and meddle in their consumption habits: “Why have you not called on Americans to drive less and turn down their thermostats?”
Bush: “People are smart enough to figure out whether they should drive less…it’s presumptuous to do so…they can decide. Of course they should conserve…let them decide.”
Ditto that!
***
Allah’s clipped the vid and zings the sanctimonious press: “It’s Daddy President 101, with the added nuance of the media demanding a catalyzing call for action from a guy with an approval rating south of 30 whom they assure us no one in their right mind takes seriously.”

What took you so long to start pressing the Dems on these things?
Mr. President…WTF?!?
Why did it take 8 year to grow them?
Why have you been so nice to Democrats and the biased MSM for 7 and a half years? Why did you never take them on? What good did the “new tone” ever do Republicans?
I really hope he takes on personally Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats in Congress and blames them for the gas prices. . . because they refuse to allow drilling that would increase the supply and lower prices.
In 7 1/2 years of your presidency you fought harder for medicare prescriptions than for privatizing social security and energy independence. Why is that?
This nation needs a “surge” in the “Oil War” to increase domestically produced oil, natural gass and electricity. This nation needs a “surge” in the social security debacle. Why haven’t you demonstrated any leadership in these areas?
Oh, and where can I go to get my 2004 vote back….
NO MORE RINOS!!!!
well I would have to ask him for the recipe for his Texas Caviar, if I were to ask a question of any substance chances are the answer wouldnt be what I want to hear so I would at least get a White House secret out of the deal.
and I would thank him for his years in office.
Do you still plan on drinking lemonade with Scott McClellan?
To lead or leave.
When do you plan on pardoning border patrol agents Campion and Ramos?
You would rather have had John Kerry in 2004 and not have gotten John Roberts and Samuel Alito on the Supreme Court?
President Bush wanted drilling in ANWR, but Congress wouldn’t pass the bill.
The problem with President Bush is that he was far too meek and unwilling to use the bully pulpit. He was a snob and felt that it was below him to do so. What he should have done was push Congress to allow for drilling in ANWR and then call a press conference and state that the Democrats and liberal Republicans are obstructing energy independence and that Americans will have to pay more at the pump because of Democrats.
A Republican president should use the bully pulpit to counter the biased MSM. Not to is negligence because liberals are to blame for ALL the problems in our country.
Mr. President, will you please demand Congress create a bill GUARANTEEING NO AMNESTY.
Sign it next week and get the full busses rolling south. Please tell Congress, the American People want their country back now !!
Apparently.
Doesn’t this make much more sense – strategically than groveling over in Saudi Arabia practically begging them to increase the oil production?
You can say no more RINO’s all you want, but the alternative is evil. I’ll take LOTE over PURE EVIL anyday.
Is it now time to pick a day to march on Washington and demand that the idiots in Congress do everything in their power to reduce oil prices NOW, which means DRILLING EVERYWHERE WE HAVE OIL RESERVES, accessing all coal reserves, building up our natural gas and nuclear infrastructures along with aggressive initiatives on expanding renewable forms of energy…short of a revolution where we take up arms, a march on Washington is our best alternative…AND GOD KNOWS WE CAN HARNESS THE POWER OF THE INTERNET TO ORGANIZE…
Mr President, who is responsible for the high cost of fuel?
Is it….
A. Speculators
B. the fact that we don’t have enough refineries
C. the fact that we don’t drill our own oil
D. OPEC greed and anti-Americanism
E. government taxes on production and consumption
F. Moonbat environmentalist
G. Democrats
H: All of the above
Why don’t you yet understand that the liberals and democrats HATE you? Why do you keep reaching out to them?
I: Increased world demand. and
J: the decreased value of the US dollar.
Why did you send our tax-dollars and arms to terrorist nation, Ismlamic Republic of Pakistan?
Gas has doubled in price since Pelosi and the Democrats took control of both Houses of Congress: Why isn’t the Administration making a greater point of this in order to help as many Republicans as possible retain their seats in the fall’s election?
The cost has multiplied by 5 times in the last couple of years. Demand hasn’t. According to the Saudis and OPEC their is plenty of supply and they could pump more.
The dollar is partly in a freefall due to high energy prices.
But both of these are valid reasons.
May I help you pack?
Why he felt it necessary to destroy conservatism.
Dollar is in free fall because of the irresponsible easy money policy of the Federal Reserve, and the borrow and spend government. High energy prices are the result of a falling dollar, not the cause.
How about: What good will more drilling do when the gas it produces won’t be available for years, and even if were available now, we don’t have the refining capacity to do anything with it?
Why aren’t you enacting legislation that will bolster our energy situation, namely coal liquefaction plants and wind farms?
How about: what infrastructure improvements do you recommend funding that will lessen our need for imported oil?
Can you name a credible scientist who does not believe man made global warming is a serious issue?
What is the capital of Czechoslovakia? (This only to show he’s as out of it as McCain, who referred to this non-existent country several times recently).
That being said – you expect a suitable answer to the first two questions you posed? If want you suggest is true then he shouldn’t be asked any “pertinent” questions at all.
*Are you capable of rational thought?*
If what, not if want.
what infrastructure improvements do you recommend funding that will lessen our need for imported oil?
————
More public transportation and drill more oil.
Can you name a credible scientist who does not believe man made global warming is a serious issue?
———————
wil 31,072 scientists do?
http://www.petitionproject.org/
Now when are you going to show up with that bus again?
Oil Consumption Growth.
All of the other factors listed contribute. The two factors that have made the most impact are worldwide demand for oil, and the dollar’s value being less.
My question: MR. PRESIDENT, the dollar is in a free fall now, what plans do government agencies have to put a stop to this FREE FALL???
I’ll name 31,000.
lgm,
GOOD GAWD you are such an idiot. Still looking to bus everybody and that will solve our oil dependence?
There are thousands of scientists who do not believe and are not permitted to voice their evidence as they do not fit in with the UN’s errant report. But, you do not care about facts so, buzz off.
Mine is set to 78°. If I turn it down, how will that help (unless I open the door to lower Global Warming and get lg-idiot off my back).
Well LGM and his ilk want us to stop heating our houses because global warming is making us so cold.
lgm has dropped his bird turd for the day.
Mr. President, you’ve mentioned specifically “congress”, a number of times in its’ failure to act. Why aren’t you referring to this body as “the democrat lead congress”? Sound bites, you know?
Now that’s a good one!
lgm:
News Flash big cities are getting hurt by higher gas prices and it’s afeecting Mass Transit. So that’s not the answer!
My hero! Well…I mean…sortof.
All lgm knows how to do is cry out for government intervention. Can’t come up with any ideas on his own so let’s look to Big Daddy to fix it. So pathetic.
That’s what we need, government controlled thermostats with a government affirmative action employee at the switch for 200,000,000 citizens.
No, I am actually quite satisfied with Roberts and Ailito but remember Bush’s first nominee was Harriet Myers and Ailito was only nominated after the Myers fiasco. It is a wonder he didn’t nominate Michael “Brownie” Brown.
Bush has consistently failed to lead on so many issues. I won’t be supporting any more RINOs. I’ll be saving my vote for actual conservatives. The president’s job is to do more than nominate a supreme court justice every few years. We need someone working in between those important nominations too or we get, well, what we have gotten over the past 7 1/2 years.
How does it feel to be a buffoon and a patsy for the corrupt Mexican government?
Exactly, it’s rather obvious that that’s what people will do. However, it doesn’t address the problem in its entirety. Liberals love to foist this petard on us as if we don’t have the common sense to conserve or recycle. Plenty people do. We don’t need a law for everything. Geez….
It certainly doesn’t seem to have the decency to respond to anything. It drops a steaming pile and run off before it gets whacked.
I thought I would share this e-mail exchange that my cousin had with a friend of his, that frankly I would say his friend probably knows more about the industry than some of us.
Mr. President:
please pay no attention to the curly-light bulb crowd that ask time-wasting questions.
(here’s a hint; his initials are ‘lgm’)
More drilling, more refineries, safe from hurricanes and more efficient than the 3 decade plus facilities we have running at more than 905 capacity, more nukes, and a better distribution grid, and a giant wind farm right off of Hyannis, MA.
Several have referred to the list of over 31,000. It was really idiotic for you to ask for it, if you were trying to prove your point.
Gee, for most of the guy’s long and experienced life, it was Czechoslovakia. Cut him a break. I can still look at a map of Eurabia and expect to see a divided Germany. No doubt this was a lame, classless dig at his age. You should be half the man McCain is, even if he far from perfect. I bet he knows that there is only 50 states, not 57, as the Obamessiah believes.
It is the Czech Republic now, by the way, and the capital is Prague. But I am sure you knew that because you are so worldly and wise, LOL!
It is like dynamite fishing: you know it is wrong, but it is sooooo easy.
This is the essence of conservatism. Of course, this probably went right over the reporter’s head.
Was that the former Soviet communist satellite slave country of Czechoslovakia? The one that split into the free country of the Czech Republic in 1989 while the communist part remained a grey backward place called Slovakia? Capital is still Praha. Capital of Slovakia is Bratislava. My son was in Czecholslovakia when it split without bloodshed. He could not go into Bratislava the next day.
Now, back on topic.
We are a free people. Most of us are intelligent enough to manage our finances without government decrees as is done in communist countries. I will use the money I earn how I wish, legally. Those who need to be told how to spend their money or conserve it may be using it illegally since they seem not to be able to make decisions for themselves.
I have been in former eastern block countries. The people there were not free. The government told them just about everything and how to do it.
We do not need to go that route.
The reporter seems to think like a socialist. I wonder, how did he get to the event? Did he conserve as he wants others to do? What is the temperature in his house?
The US congress is intentionally limiting the supply of petroleum. They need to be replaced with those who will allow the free exploration and sale of this natural resource.
A couple of questions I’d like to ask Pres. Bush are:
1. Why have you become a doormat to the Dems?
2. Why have you not called out Dems and their weak-minded adherents (such as certain minority groups) on their lack of saving and access to credit when they never qualified for it in the first place?
3. Why have you not called out Obummer on all his great “promises?”
4. Why have you not called for an investigation into the financial connections of Dems and certain mortgage companies (cough, cough, Countrywide)?
When the Dem politicians give up their perks such as bribes, financial gifts from mortgage companies, and their high pay for doing nothing, then I will give up something. Why must the average American consumer give up something when our own politicians can’t seem to keep their own hands out of the cookie jar?
As it is, I watch how much energy I consume, how much I drive, and how much money I spend. Unfortunately, there are many irresponsible Americans out there (of different socioeconomic levels) that don’t know the difference between needs and wants. I want these irresponsible Americans to be made aware of what their unconscionable actions (such as walking away from mortgages they could never afford) have cost us all.
Why is it that EVERY so-called “progressive” idea involves returning us to the 19th century? Less energy, fewer goods, smaller living spaces, less personal freedom to travel and move about, less freedom to decide where to send our kids to school, what neighborhoods to live in, and how best to structure our lives according to our own needs and desires.
What in the hell is Progressive about the 1870’s? Where is the vision? Where is the striving that puts men on the moon and develops cancer drugs and turbo engines, and jet powered watercraft? Who will bear the standard of real progress and future that brings MORE, rather than shivering in the cold, huddling together on dirty, dangerous mass transit, and letting the suburbs return to forest so we can all live stacked 10 to an apartment in the cities? Someone should start pointing out that the latter is the PROGRESSIVE view of our future.
Name me a credible scientist that does believe man made global warming is a serious issue? and your master the Goracle is not a scientist, lgm.
We have been using 200,000 less barrels of oil a day! We are driving less.
It’s summer! if we turn down our thermostats we’ll use more energy! Idiot!
Oil just dropped to $138. Not low enough but, better than the $146 yesterday
Producing more of our own will increase the overall supply on the world market and bring the price down (basic supply & demand economics), and if we are refining what we produce our refineries will still be at capacity, we just won’t be buying as much from people that hate us.
In addition to producing our own resources, the question for GW and congress is, “how quick can you get more refineries built? And why don’t you standardize the antipollution recipes (we curently have something like 30 different recipes)to eliminate regional shortages?
turn down the thermostats? In this heat? How would that conserve energy?
The members of the press are simply stupid and trying to make the President look like he is out of touch. One idiot asked about Freddie Mae and Fannie Mac…freaking dopes…
lgm said:
Here lgm sprinkle this on your cornflakes jerkweed.
Let’s deport 20 – 30 million illegals and see how much oil we save.
Get over it already! President Bush will have soon served his full eight years in office, despite your side’s best efforts, and the country and the world are better for it!
Gore is the least credible of anyone talking about so called global warming. He got C’s and D’s in what few science courses he took in college!
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?pagename=article&contentId=A37397-2000Mar18
Not only is he not credible, he is unqualified!
I would love to see the US government bill the mexican government over the financial cost it’s citizens have required us to spend. Everything from the cost of police for arresting illegals, to the medical bills that illegals can’t pay for themselves. Since the Mexican government is a participant in mexican illegals in the US, they should be invoiced.
I began “monitoring” my thermostat in the 70’s, rarely if ever do I use the heat or air conditioning, I recycle, I don’t waste gas among other things. What more do they want, it’s obvious, they won’t be satisfied until we drop dead that is the long term objective. So I must do more, donating to any charities is out, voting yes for any money that they ask for is out of the question too, purchasing goods or services, not unless it’s a necessity. When I do spend money it will be through conservative oriented and people and businesses.
Forget about lgm and other criminal conspiracists, that’s right criminals, the world is moving in a cooling direction but because of these agw scare mongers we wont be preparing for it. Many, many people will die, many others will hate the ones who were responsible they will demand their heads on a platter. We can to a degree afford this but many other poor countries cant, people are going to go without food its already happening. But you watch, as soon as that happens these rats will try to put the blame on someone else. They are truly the vermin of our civilization.
Global cooling, part of the Earths cycle of life, don’t let the retards fool ya.
Eagle – This problem can’t be fixed tomorrow just because we want it fixed. It has been a long time growing and we need to take a longer view of fixing it.
In fact, the long lead time to production is an argument for starting NOW.
lgm, why don’t you just move to here, Please.
You can teach here and poison German minds.
REPLY: Does this question suggest that the left has finally understood we must plan ahead?????
No, of course not, the left will stay stuck on stupid. They will want to depend on inconsistant wind and solor and demand everyone buy a electric car which simply plugs into the wall. 300,000,000 electric cars plugged into the wall outlet FOFLOL.
Here. A list of scientists who oppose the mainstream assessment of global warming, for various reasons.
Heh look! They took x-rays of lgm’s head!
LGM seems to have gone. Imagine that….
From the article linked on Drudge about oil prices down:
Hmmm, yet brain-dead Democrats claim that if we drill off shore and in ANWR and greatly increase our supply of oil, prices won’t go down! Instead they want us to cut down trees to use for fuel in fireplaces and harness the wind, and have their buddies, the Muslims in the Middle East and commis in Venezuela, hold us hostage.
Thank you, Democratic Congress for this energy crisis!
????
Mr. President – while there have been 11,400 Islamic terrorist attacks since 9/11-NON have been carried out here (USA) and I appreciate that>>>>>WHY HAVE YOU PLAYED NICE WITH THE SOCIALIST DEMOCRATS???
PS-as party leader-would you please take Mr. McCain aside and inform him that bowing down to the Saudis and the Dems does no good?
We need to be asking Democrats (every single day),
“Why are you against lower oil prices?”
Put the bums on the spot at every opportunity.
All we need to do is announce a full assault to recover the available resources in our country and the market would drop prices overnight. Food prices would follow shortly.
LOL
Hey, what a great idea! Let’s all not drive, shut off the air and heat for our homes, save fuel by not cooking and wait for the dems to bus us to the polls for the election to vote for change! Why didn’t I think of it? I guess that will tell the oil thugs we mean business!
To lgm,Here is a senate minority report.Paid for with your tax dollars,That wasn’t released until after the last Energy plan the senate pushed through. You’ll find some of the best and brightest on the list.Just be prepared to spend a couple of days reading,as the evidence against man made global warming is overwhelming.http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Minority.Blogs&ContentRecord_id=f80a6386-802a-23ad-40c8-3c63dc2d02cb
Bush is the last person on the planet who would say — or has any right to say — something like that.
If we (rightly) condemn Osama Obama for the company he keeps, what can you say about someone who thinks the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Mexico and, of course, good ol’ “Poot” Putin are his big buddyroos?
Heck, even Li’l Kim and the Norks are playing him like a violin.
This so called argument about not drilling or building refineries because it will be ten or more years before it can come on line and be a benefit makes as much sense as not planting seeds because you are hungry now.
“Mr. President!, Mr. President!,
…How does it feel to be a buffoon and a patsy for the corrupt Mexican government?”
(President pretends he didn’t hear question- again.)
Saw a new study yesterday that showed that off shore drilling actually HELPS the environment. It showed that only 1 percent of the oil spillage is caused by drilling. 62 percent comes from seepage (sp). The oil drilling relieves the pressure and reduces this seepage.
Now a honest enviromentalist would say, lets clean up the beaches by drilling. Hear that Florida, California and New Jersey.
#80 correct oil spillages happen during transporting the oil not the drilling
It certainly is a stupid statement. Based on that criteria. DONT worry about global warming, the elementary school system, social security etc. If its 10 years down the road, then it doesn’t matter.
Why do I have the gnawing suspicion that this was the exact same thing eagleshaslanded was saying … 5, 6, 7, or 8 years ago?
Part of the reason we’re in this fix with oil and gas prices is because of an artificially-created shortage of domestic supply. True, we may not drill our way out of it overnight; but then, we didn’t dig our way into it overnight, either.
There are enviro-totalitarians in this country who really won’t be satisfied until 99% of humanity is extinct and the remaining 1% is calling the trees “home” again (can’t have the caves, the bears were there first). And they’ve got the donkey party totally in thrall.
I don’t care if some people want to live a “sustainable” lifestyle that proves everything Hobbes said about man’s life in the natural state being “… solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short.” All I’d ask in return is:
Stop trying to take the rest of us with you.
Saw that too. 1 percent caused by drilling. 8 percent caused by shipping. 62 percent caused by seepage.
That’s not what they want for them…that’s for us. They want to keep their elitist lifestyle so they have to sacrifice something (us).
What an idiot. Turning your thermostat DOWN in the Summer means you will be using MORE energy to cool your house.
As far as public transportation goes, try building a rail system anywhere in america and you will have environuts from here to the horizon telling you why you can’t build it.
They have been talking about expanding metro here in the D.C. area out to Dulles airport since 1980 and not one inch has ever been built.
Also, did anyone hear Rush’s analogy to the Dems talking point of “drilling won’t produce any oil for 4-5 years”?
He said you might as well tell young people that “college won’t produce a degree for 4-5 years, so why bother with that either”?
bayou22,
If they attend school in Iran they can obtain a bachelor’s degree after graduating from high school. Of course, there are other things to consider with that move.
Oops, I meant Iraq. Not Iran. I don’t know what they heck they give out there.
?!! That was actually coherent and pertinent. Of course it went downhill from there.
LGM, did you forget your meds this morning?
But what about John Kerry’s comments about those who don’t go to college “get stuck in Iraq?”
lgm #27:
Czechoslovakia? Surely you mean “The Czech Republic” and “Slovakia.”
*eyeroll* And they say conservatives are the uneducated idiots…
Build as many of these and these as quickly as we can.
Now the shoe is on the other foot, lgm. Can you name a credible
chickenseagull that doesn’t believe the sky is falling? No government should be telling its citizens to turn its thermostats down. Instead the citizens should be saying that to the government. This is an example of how the left make the people subject to the government. That is a violation of the entire constitution.
Is is the funniest thing I’ve read in a while.
John Kerry and the democrats thirty year obstruction of energy production has been and continues to ravage the American countryside in a manner reminiscent of Genghis Khan.
Anything they say or do can and will be held against them.
