Clueless Washington journalist of the day: John Harwood
Liberal racism? What liberal racism? How clueless and out-of-touch is CNBC Washington chief correspondent and NYTimes writer John Harwood? This clueless (hat tip -Mark Finkelstein at Newsbusters):
JOE SCARBOROUGH: Have you seen the political cartoons of Condoleeza Rice as a parrot with huge black lips? Have you seen the racist –
JOHN HARWOOD: There are cartoons of Barack Obama, too!
SCARBOROUGH: Oh really? With lips out to here? Exaggerated lips?
HARWOOD: No, with ears out to here. [Scarborough and Harwood can be seen illustrating their respective points in the screencap.]
SCARBOROUGH: Yeah, exactly. Ears are not seen, racists do not focus on ears when making fun of African-Americans.
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: This is a point.
SCARBOROUGH: I will show you, the next time you’re on here, racist cartoons –
HARWOOD: From the left?
SCARBOROUGH: — of Condoleeza Rice. No, from mainstream people. Where nobody even brought it up. Nobody was even concerned. I’ll guarantee you Condoleeza Rice noticed.

My message has been politely and respectfully sent. But, I suspect it will be quickly deleted, like so many others that will pop up in his inbox.
No single political ideology has a “monopoly” on racism. Racism is a human trait; it is in every one of us — in some it is more prominent than in others, but it is there.
Animals use their natural instincts (something humans should use a bit more of), and they are naturally suspicious of any other creature that’s not part of their species.
My wife and I have two Yorkies. They get along with other Yorkies, but any other “regular” dog is beneath them.
Denying that racism exists in a certain group of people (as Harwood seems to imply) is therefore utterly dumb and shows that he knows absolutely nothing about human nature — or Mother Nature in general.
Your dogs are defiantlylib’s. I’ve never seen anything like that in my life with dogs.

I’ve written to Michelle many times. I don’t remember a response. Maybe she’s busy, and can’t reply to every email. Or maybe she also ignores everything, as you suggest. You might want to keep an open mind and consider the possibilities other than your first opinion of th ematter before you make a statement like that.

What is up with you? You have leveled attacks on a good many people here as of late.
My comment about the RNC web site has to do with; we do NOT have to – yet again – express our thoughts on what conservatives think about the issues. Do you honestly think the RNC does not know where conservatives stand? To ask – yet again – is evidence that:
1. they are clueless
2. they are not listening
3. conservatives are being ignored (by picking yet another moderate)
4. they need extra dupes to mail out fund raising material.
Now, I did my assignment. I feel it will get the same treatment – ignored. But, hey, that is just me. If you do not agree – fine. The attacks are unwarranted. Thanks.
I think it’s funny that John Harwood’s email is politicalcapital. I mean if he hasn’t seen the racist cartoons from the main stream media against Condi, then HE HAS NO POLITICAL CAPITAL.
Sir, You are saying that they ignored you. You stated it as a fact. Any time you send an email to anywhere, you usually see the same ‘thank you for your message, although we can not reply to every singe message,’ type of reply.
I see a lot of truth on this website, a lot of opinion that is based on truth and quite a lot of opinion that is not based on any truth whatsoever. Just as you would be irritated by liberals making false claims and opinions based on incorrect information, I am also getting intolerant of the same, when it comes to conservatives lying about other conservatives. Especially in a climate of “McCain is the anti-christ who wants all illegal mexicans to destroy america” and “its time for a new political party, the GOP doesn’t listen to us” type of comments that are on this site just about every day. I hope that I have made myself clear.
Let’s not foget the vicious and racist rhetoric and cartoons of Condi Rice that have emerged in the Arab world. But since the New York Times and NBC insist that Arabs can not be racists but only the victims of racism, Mr. Harwood would not know anything about that. His nonsense about cartoons of Obama’s ear being a sign of racism shows that Mr. Harwood is either disingenuous or he is a dope. Ross Perot was the butt of ten years of jokes about his ears. Was that antiCaucasian racism, Mr. Harwood?
And in Mr. Harwood’s beloved New York Times, it was not so long ago that the Times had an “editorial notebook” about Bobby Jindal that made snotty comments about Mr. Jindal’s skin complexion.

I wouldn’t say that Condoleeza has overly large lips; the way Oliphant draws them is clearly racist.

No, I am saying that they are clueless if they have to ask – yet again. That implies (correctly as far as I am concerned) that they have NOT been listening. Here is a sample of questions from their “Protecting American Values” page:

What do you think of the Supreme Court’s decision upholding the right to bear arms? Do you approve of quotas in higher education or employment? What should the Republican Party’s position be on abortion, embryonic stem cell research, and other culture of life issues? Now, riddle me this Batman. Why do they not know the answers to these simple issues? Conservatives have been screaming fro the mountain tops about these very issues and we are being asked to – YET AGAIN – tell them what we think.
Oh, and if you have been paying attention, I am NOT the only person who feels this way. That is a fact.

Actually, bigotry and stupidity knows no political bounds. There are jerks everywhere who dabble in race-themes pranks, jokes and social commentary. And perhaps not all are jerks. Richard Pryor, Don Rickles, Bill Cosby and others have used racial stereotypes are fodder for making us laugh. Today, sadly, these antics are used more for bludgeoning than getting laughs. This is in-line with our cruder and coarser political discourse of today.

John Harwood is the perfect example of someone only seeing what they want to see and reading only what they want to read.
He doesn’t see any racism or bigotry from the left because he doesn’t want to see it.
Mr. Harwood (and all liberals) cannot let the truth be known that liberals are the most racist. If the truth is told, the liberals will lose their holier-than-thou status.
From the beginning, the democrat party has always been the party of slavery, anti-civil rights, and racism. The Republican party began with one issue on their platform; end slavery. I hear liberal comedians get laughs when they do their schtick about african-american conservatives or have a liberal talking head call them “traitors to their race.” From 1865 to 1935, all african-americans elected to Congress where Republicans. The first democrat african-american was a wack-a-doodle socialist. Martin Luther King, Sr. was a Republican. He knew where the true racisists were; in the democrat party! Who do you think started the KKK? The democrats. And their primary targets were Republicans, not just african-americans. Because even the KKK knew that all african-americans were Republicans.
If Mr. Harwood thinks there is no racism on the left, he needs to get a real history lesson. Of course, with liberals running States like The Peoples Socialist Republic of California, he may not be able to get into a class at a community college; only illegal aliens can afford to attend.
That’s not racist; that’s the truth. Racism is founded on the lie that one race is superior or inferior to another merely due to skin color. Since racism is a lie, the truth cannot be racist. Simple as that.

Actually, I don’t think Harwood is out of touch or clueless. He’s just dishonest. You can tell that by his response. When Scarborough points out that there are cartoons about Condoleeza Rice, notice the wording of Harwood’s response: “There are cartoons of Barack Obama, too.” “Too” meaning “also”, “not only . . . but”. In other words, “Yes, there are cartoons of Rice, but there are cartoons of Obama, too.” So he was lying, and no amount of email pointing that out will make any difference.
