Crime out of control in Dem-run Chicago; Dem guv offers troopers
What’s the matter with Chicago? Looks like they need a Rudy Giuliani. Despite a spate of gun control laws, crime is spiraling out of control. The Democrat Illinois governor is now offering to send state troopers and National Guardsmen. (Hat tip – Tom Elia)
Gov. Rod Blagojevich on Wednesday raised the possibility of bringing in state troopers or even the Illinois National Guard to help Chicago combat a recent increase in violent crime — an offer that Mayor Richard Daley didn’t know was coming.
Appearing at signing ceremony for a bill that toughens the penalty for adults who provide guns to minors, Blagojevich said “violent crime in the city of Chicago is out of control.”
“I’m offering resources of the state to the city to work in a constructive way with Mayor Daley to do everything we can possibly do to help … stop this violence,” said the governor…
…The governor’s comments come at a time when violent crime has spiked in Chicago. This spring, for example, nine people were killed in 36 shootings during a weekend and Chicago Public Schools officials say more than two dozen students have been killed by gunfire since last September.
On Wednesday, Superintendent Jody Weis was grilled by members of a city council committee, who complained both about rising crime and statistics that suggested to them that the police department wasn’t doing enough to stop it.

Looks like a real quagmire maybe instead of sending in troops they should use the same policy they want to use in Iraq and just pull out. With all I have seen of Democrat and liberal leadership in my time on planet earth I wouldn’t trust them to organize a latrine detail. I guess we see the results of a community that has been touched by the efforts of a community organizer. Just think what someone with this type of experience can do for the nation.

You gotta love it in a way, eh? This is the same debate we’re having up here in Canada. Toronto is the worst cesspool in the Western world these days (I lived there; I know what I am talking about, which is why I moved away from there and wouldn’t even pass through not even for a million dollars).
The commie mayor of Toronto is mulling over strict gun laws. He’s even banned sports clubs where athletes were supposed to be training for shooting competitions and such. They have to take their training outside city boundaries now.
At the same time, the commie mayor never mentions the actual reason for all the violent crime in Toronto: the Caribbean community that has been allowed to swell to no end. I have seen these crimes being committed with my own two eyes when I lived there. I know who the culprits are, I have seen them.
As one former oil company exec once famously said: Toronto’s crime is the result of importing certain violent cultures into Canada. For this remark he has been hounded by the bleeding hearts of the political correctness police to this day (he even lost a government appointment years later over those — truthful and utterly accurate — remarks).
Chicago is merely the carbon copy of Toronto (which is why these two cities always stand in for each other for TV shows and movies).
Yes, and we all know a “surge” will just make things worse.
I love it. I keep saying Chicago is the boil on America. Democrats have controlled it for so long it is beyond saving. Just wall it off and let the rest of us have our state back.

If Obama has any consistency in his positions, he should be demanding that all the police pull out of Chicago because their presence there is only inciting violence. After all, that is what he wants for Iraq.

Again, every problem we face in America is due to liberals. Why should we elect Hussein Obama and make it even worse?

The nutcase Hussein Obama wants to eliminate ALL American nuclear weapons if president. Why? Because he doesn’t think we should have them if North Korea and Iran can’t. It’s not fair.
With that logic, I guess he should press for the elimination of ALL weapons by Chicago police because it is not fair for them to have them and criminals to be punished for using them. There is no difference between good guys and bad guys in Obama’s world.

Dunno, when it comes to “colorful politicians” I would argue that the worst are here. After all, the last governor (rino), was corrupt as all get out and is now in federal prison (albeit a country club prison). The current guv (whom we call Blow-dry-o-vich because of his helmet-like hardo) is just as crooked as the last and probably will be indicted soon. All are part of the Tony Rezko gang (hello, Barack?)
Bloggo spends little time at the Governor’s mansion in Springfield. Rather, a state jet flies him back and forth from Chicago to Springfield daily (on taxpayer $$$ of course). His father-in-law, Dick Mell, is a big Dem and sits on the Chic city council (though they’ve had a falling out). Bloggos wife is a real estate broker and mysteriously gets big contracts and big commisions. The leader of the state house of rep’s daughter is the Illinois State AG. She’s hinted at running for guv herself, but if His Most High Obamaship is elected pres (God forbid), Bloggo may well appoint her to finish Baracks term in the US Senate. Gotta love nepotisim!
Then there’s Mayor Daley. I could spend the next day posting about him. As ridiculous a politician as I’ve ever seen (reminds me of a cross between Lou Costello and Curly Howard). He’s as crooked as his dad, but has been smart enough to put in place pigeons between him an the crooks, so he may avoid jail time.
But hey, he’s going to bring the Olympics to Chicago in 2016! Perhaps new events could be introduced to highlight the way Chiacgo works:

Actually, the sales tax rate in the city is 10.25%. Needless to say, a lot of Chicago and Cook County residents are going to the suburbs for large ticket purchases (appliances and computers), where the sales tax rate is 7.25%

Yep – the Milwaukee County board is going to raise the sales tax again, making Milwaukee a tax island.
The city of Milwaukee also added a $20/car “wheel tax” for “transportation” – when I e-mailed my alderman and told him this offered little incentive for me to stay in Milwaukee, his response basically was, “Leave and don’t let the door hit you on the way out.”

The MSM pretended that President Bush was stupid, but now that we have a TRULY dumb candidate in Obama–he wants a citizen corps as powerful as the military and as well funded, he wants to eliminate ALL American nuclear weapons, he doesn’t want to drill in America, he wants to coddle America’s enemies and have dialogue with them, he thinks there are 57 states–the MSM is treating him like he is a divine creature.
I actually think he has bad intentions (showing he is dumb enough to not realize the greatness and uniqueness of America) for the country and is desperate to hide them just to get elected. He keeps contradicting himself. Our allies in Europe and Asia are going to get very frightened at the prospect of an Obama presidency because they are going to have no idea where he stands if elected.

Swmbo, I am too. All the Catholics I work with and study with (I teach in a conservative Catholic school and attend a conservative Catholic grad school in Northern Virginia) are scared to death about Obama becoming president. There are a lot of prayers that America wakes up before it is too late!
There is just something not right about him. He claims to be Christian, but I’ve lived in Asia for several years and have been to Indonesia, and I think he is much more culturally Muslim than he is American. It makes sense because he didn’t grow up here and his parents had completely foreign values. He has no experience and his loyalty to America is questionable.
Every enemy is going to test us hard if he assumes the presidency because they know he will not retaliate.

The problem is that for 40 years the center left establishment in Chicago has been trying to buy off professional grievance mongers like Jesse Jackson and Barack Obama. While this at first allowed authorities to focus on severe threats such as the Blackstone Rangers=Black P Stone Nation=El Ruk’n it corrupted the system over time. Now it is harder for members of marginalized communities to achieve success in mainstream society than it once was. Like the Romans after having hired the barbarian mercenaries the civic society of Chicago is defenseless before today’s barbarians.

This is a diversionary tactic by Blagojevich, just like most of his actions. He knows he is on the hot seat, but he thinks that if he diverts attention away from himself, he won’t be indicted for corruption.
The police in Chicago are in a trick bag. The City Council has approved so many settlements to “innocent” victims of police shootings, the copa are prbably scared to raise their guns.

Blago’s just blowing smoke out his butt to deflect attention from his failure as a governor. Crime is no worse than usual. I read the papaer every morning before I send the kids off to school so thry’ll know which corners to avaoid. So far this summer they’ve only been held at gunpoint once on their way home from a parish carnival in Evergreen Park. Other than that, if they get off the train early in the morning there’s a high chance of them being safe – harrassed by homeless crackheads, sure, but that and the 10.75% sales tax, are the price you have to pay for living in on the south side of Chicago.
They should invite Rev. Wright in to smooth those troubled waters!

I always enjoy a good story about a liberal/minority big city going in the tank. This is yet another example of what happens to a city when run (into the ground) by liberals and minorities. Ironically, they’re electing their own kind and then mindlessly watch as every decent thing about their city is destroyed. Then, if that’s not stupid enough, they continually re-elect the same idiots who destroyed the city to begin with. Eventually, they get around to blaming conservatives/whitie for everything wrong with the city. You know…failed policies of the past administrations, etc.

That is what Chicago has done. Walmart built literally right across the street from Chicago city limits. Daley is running a patronage army that may exceed the power of his father’s. The corruption is rampant and not at all secret, but Daley may be untouchable, because he has layers of lackeys that insulate him.
Chicago is still a beautiful city and is not a dangerous place to visit, but the Democratic machine’s antics cannot continue without doing irreparable harm. The 10.25% sales tax will cause big problems.
I would love to know who was responsible for pulling Patrick Fitzgerald out of Chicago, where he was doing great work, and sending him after Scooter Libby.
I don’t know much about this crime story since I have been out of Chicago for almost two years now, but I do know one thing: Blagojevich is a smarmy slime-bag who I trust about as far as I can throw him. My father was working for IL DNR when this creep came into office and Blago immediately starting firing all Repubs hired under Ryan and stocking state jobs with his own unqualified friends. He is as crooked as they come (with an approval rate to rival that of Congress) and in big trouble right now. My guess is that he is making a last-ditch effort at a big gesture so he can look like he cares. He does not.
I alwasy just thought it was subtle gang backed ploy that the gullible government fell for to get rival gang members in one well lit place to make it easier to shoot them. : )
Bad enough that I work in downtown Los Angeles for the city via the Metro rail system. I once lived it L A and glad I am no longer an Angeleno. Living in a nearby suburb is far closer to L A than I want to be.
I must hold out for another 8 years before retirement and a quick exit from California for the midwest. That is if I, L A, California, and, heaven forbid, with an Obamessiah administration, the USA last that long.

Illinois even considered a recall of gov. because he wouldn’t get on board with the budget. Guess it scared him, he got on board, for all the good he does.
