NAACP race-monger: Obama was “lynched” by a cartoon!

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 17, 2008 08:58 AM

Geez, I thought that the two Texas dunces who protested the phrase “black holes” had won the grievance-mongering morons of the year award.

They’ve got competition.

Enter Myrlie Evers-Williams, NAACP official and widow of slain civil rights leader Medgar Evers. She is decrying the New Yorker cartoon of the Obamas as a “lynching.” Hey, never mind that it’s the critics of Obama who are the subject of the cartoon’s “lynching.” Evers-Williams’ cartoon comprehension score: F-. Some people to need to be kept away from the microphone.

For crying out loud:

An NAACP leader, who saw her husband killed decades ago for his civil rights work, said Tuesday that presidential candidate Barack Obama and his wife, Michele, are undergoing “political lynching” in the media.

Myrlie Evers-Williams, 75, the widow of slain civil rights leader Medgar Evers, told an NAACP luncheon group Tuesday that political spin masters and the news media are painting the Obamas as unpatriotic and dangerous radicals. She said the attacks are serious enough to use the term lynching, even though that usually refers to racially-motivated killings.

Evers-Williams, a chairwoman emeritus of the civil rights organization, said New Yorker magazine’s recent cover is an example. The magazine’s cartoon cover shows a turban-clad Barack Obama bumping knuckles with a gun-toting Michele Obama as an American flag burns in a fireplace…

…Evers-Williams, a chairwoman emeritus of the civil rights organization, said New Yorker magazine’s recent cover is an example. The magazine’s cartoon cover shows a turban-clad Barack Obama bumping knuckles with a gun-toting Michele Obama as an American flag burns in a fireplace.

“As I watch the political scene unfold, I realize there is more than one way to lynch someone,” said Evers-Williams. “I look at the picture of the New Yorker and to me that was subtle, political lynching. You can call it satire if you want.”

And that, dear readers, is what we call self-satire.

Obama needs to grow a pair. This woman needs to grow a brain.

I haven’t moved on about BO identifying himself as, “BLACK” and ignoring the 50% white. How did he do it? Did he use racial stereotypes and racial profile himself? Lets have a conversation about race every day and lets start it with a prayer of thanks for the 300,000+ white Union soldiers who died ending slavery. That number far exceeds all the lynchings that ever occurred in the USA. Let us remember the 300,000+ white Confederate soldiers who died defending slavery and in effect have been executed by firing squad. No discussion of race can occur without this bit of history.

If we are now willing to confuse satire and/or political disagreement with “lynching,” then can there also be “culinary lynching” if a black is served a meal he/or she disagrees with? Can “aesthetic lynching” exist if a work of art displeases a black person? Can “polemic lynching” be if a black person doesn’t agree with the way an argument is developing? If so, how far are we willing to go here? If not, then why only “political” lynching? Because liberals say so?

Let’s not forget that the NAACP also contributed a 2000 political ad in which they equated then Governor Bush’s signing/non-signing of a piece of Texas legislation to James Byrd being lynched.

I continue to marvel at how some alumnae of the civil rights movement have continued to beat the historical drums of “lynching” and “racism” so inappropriately, and for so long now, that their drums have become hollow and almost meaningless.

In other words NO, your examples have nothing to do with Myrlie Evers-Williams ridiculous charge of Lynching. Myrlie Evers-Williams’ charge of lynching is not only ridiculous it degrades those people who were indeed lynched, shot, whipped and all. And you degrade them too with your ridiculous comparisons.

Ok lgm you want equivalence? How does this New Yorker sympathetic cartoon compare to the Condi Rice=Aunt Jemima cartoons? The BIG Lipped Parrot Condi Rice cartoon? I did not see Myrlie Evers-Williams upset about those either. Rather selective aren’t you and Mrs. Williams lgm? Selective and a jerk.

    Mathman,

You’re such a transparent (or painful) redirecter. Instead of actually dealing with the topic, you reverse the focus. Oh, those bad Republicans lie too! Perhaps, you and Chaps should get together and discuss? ;-)

Now as to your links, they’re as partisan as they go and the one link about the tax rate is misleading and you know it. The study doesn’t factor in local, state and other taxes that all Americans have to pay.

It’s interesting that liberals (oops, sorry, my bad, progressives) want everybody’s taxes raised so they can reap the reward. Nope, it’s all about society as a whole and not the individual and their right to MY income.

Could you please cite anywhere in the Constitution or Bill of Rights how taxation is constitutional or even legal? Let’s exclude the ammendment since it was devised to create the Income Tax.

Then you can explain to all of us how anything you link reveals any “lies” that Republicans tell. How ’bout the lies that liberals continue to perpetuate that all Republicans are wealthy, or the reverse live in trailor parks, or are war mongers, or aren’t college educated.

For someone who belongs to a so-called “big-tent, we’re all a big, happy family” political party like the Dems, you seem to forget yourself. Talk about the liars identifying the lies!

    Hey 30!

I wanted to mention what a shame that people like this woman keep bringing up “lynching” and in the same way, do a disservice to the black community.

Many blacks paid for HER civil rights with their lives. Does she get that or are their deaths just so much more politically expedient for the joy of using that word like some self-fulfilling prophecy or something?

I wonder if all the family members of those who’ve been lynched would accept such “death politicization?” It’s really a shame.

One more thing, it must be so “hard” to be black like her. Accuse others of “lynching” when they criticize you or even immortalize you in a cartoon.

Oye Vay, Ms. Evers-Williams needs a new schtick ’cause this one’s gettin’ real old. Do you think she cares about the impact of illegal immigration in the black community?

They’re dead and gone and she doesn’t need to concern herself with them. However, for those civil rights activists who are alive and well, her viewpoints are right on par with theirs. “Whitey” can’t do anything for the black community which why these middlemen (Jesse, Al and their organizations) are needed. All “whitey” is good for keeping their programs well funded.

Do you think she cares about the impact of illegal immigration in the black community?

Jesse Jackson can say the n-word and threaten to cut Obamas nuts off (castration was also a method of “punishment” enacted during lynching) and he gets excused. I don’t see Sharpton or the NAACP forming rallies and parades through the streets of Manhattan to protest the use of the n-word, which, when uttered by a black person is ok and not nearly as offensive as a white person saying nappy headed hoes.

Of course, when President Bush nominated Janice Rogers Brown to the bench, she was lambasted by the NAACP and cartoons comparing her to Clarence Thomas.

Of course, that wasn’t political lynching because this particular African American, Brown, didn’t agree with the STEREOTYPE that the NAACP promotes. I guess that makes it all ok to attack her then.

You’ll also find that Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy defends the use of the cartoon against Janice Rogers Brown likening it to cartoons used against himself!

Mr. Leahy said the cartoon involving Justice Brown was no less offensive than those that depicted him as anti-Catholic when he opposed the nomination of a Catholic candidate.

I doubt that he’ll be saying the same thing about the Obama cartoon!

How bout’ a nice big cup of “NO”?

I might be able to partially agree that it wasn’t exactly ~ridiculous~ but it sure seemed stupid to accuse a magazine that’s on her side using a term from the civil rights struggle era.

On top of that, her backpeddling to cover it with the ‘political lynching’ term was kinda lame dontchathink?

Incidentally, just how many black people really were ‘politically lynched’ back in the 50’s and 60’s? Just wonderin …

I would be willingly to bet that those who received the NON-political version back then might get agitated to hear that what happened to them was really no different than having their caricature on a magazine cover when they were running for President of the United States. Yeah, that sort of thing happened to them all the time back then. /sarc

There was a political cartoon in the Washington Times about a year and a half ago making fun of the Obama phenomenon.
