Spain acquits Madrid bombing mastermind, terrorists
Chalk up one for the law enforcement approach to terrorism:
Spain’s highest court absolved four men and upheld the acquittal of a fifth on Thursday in the convoluted legal proceedings relating to the 2004 Madrid commuter train bombings that killed 191 people in the deadliest attack by Islamic militants on European soil.
…
Most dramatically, the high court upheld the acquittal of one of the bombing’s accused masterminds, Rabei Osman, an Egyptian, who was found guilty in 2006 in Italy of belonging to a terrorist organization.
Mr. Osman was arrested in Italy in June 2004, but disputed prosecution evidence citing wiretaps in which he was purported to have said he had conceived the idea of the attacks.
What? Wiretapping caught a terrorist? That’s unpossible!
But it absolved three of the top suspects, including Mr. Osman, on the grounds that he was already serving a sentence in Italy for the same crime.
So, yeah, he’s guilty. And Spain didn’t want a piece of him?
There’s a bright spot: Antonio Toro, the worthless waste of breath who traded the explosives to the terrorists in exchange for hashish? His acquittal was reversed–and he’s going to do four years. Which I think counts as hard time in Europe. Community service just wouldn’t have served the demands of justice.
Oh, wait: he could have done thirty.
Well, it’s something.

And people wonder why the Mossad took it upon itself to serve justice on those Pali wackos who murdered the Israeli athletes at the ‘72 Olympics.
My new directive for terrorism: take no prisoners.
If this doesn’t change, we will lose the war on terror.
Maybe it was just a gesture of goodwill like Israel swapping that fat pig child murderer for the remains of two soldiers. It’s all about peace and harmony, y’know.
They are holding a religious gathering or such in Spain or so I heard somewhere.
Spain used to be part of the Muslim held lands and not so long ago.
If only they had Sharia law.
Simple solution (I’m full of them — it): Kill terrorists on sight. When spotted, take aim, pull trigger, call coroner.
Done.
Spanish Law feels coelentrates’ rights are more important than for society to heal Mr. Ramirez.
What a sad spectacle. Spain was once on our side in Iraq - until the bombing began. I just don’t understand why the rest of the world seems to think you can reason or negotiate with terrorists. greenfairie has it right - shoot first and let God sort them out later.
So let me get this straight - You can indict a ham sandwich in America, but you can’t convict five of the suspected ringleaders and participants of the Madrid train bombings in Spain?
Buena suerte a España.
After that bombing, the Spanish rolled over and elected terrorist-coddling socialists. So, is it any wonder that they’ll let terrorists go so they can play nicey-nicey with them?
The great, courageous Spanish people of the past like Ferdinand Magellen, Vasco de Gamma, and Francisco Coronado must be spinning in their graves at how far their once-proud country has fallen!
“In the measure that justice is done, it helps the society to heal.”
Before society can heal, you dillweed, the malignant tumor must be completely removed from the body of society! I saw no justice for a 191 dead commuters.
EU going soft on Terrorsist. Hell Israel handed over terrorist in exchange for two dead bodies. Why not an even swap and hand them the dead bodies of the terrorist they wanted?
It’s great to see you back see-dubya. Hope your move went well.
This is what happens when countries turn to socialism. Spain’s great Socialist prime minister has turned this once great nation into a joke. When Franco died, Spain turned away from a dictatorship to Democracy. However, if the prime minister doesn’t level with the Spanish people about who was responsible for the train bombings… what happens? It’s a return to socialism!
I used to admire Spain for the democratic strides it made. I saw their progress in the 1990’s as a college student studying in their country. Unfortunately, the liberals/socialists control what is the proper approach to terrorism. Law enforcement hasn’t eradicated ETA either as far as I know. There’s been no reconciliation and the basque separatists still want independence from Spain.
This is also what happens when you have an out of control immigration system. If both Spaniards and Americans would just wake up to this reality, the train bombing would never have happened, and neither would have 9/11 if the USA would have been more circumspect in who we let in.
The similarities between Spain and USA are astounding… and dismaying.
In a related story, after hearing the verdict, those 191 souls rose from the dead to applaud the fact that justice had been served.
Dhimmi..tude has encompassed Europe…
Are we going to allow it here?
The camel’s nose is already under the tent.
Be aware my fellow citizens.
I forsee a regrettable accident in his futre.
Maybe next time he blows something up, it will be in a country that actually has balls to deal with worthless scum like him.
thats more like it.
His name at least is spot on-Trashorras!
Spread some of those years around like the trash he spread himself.
Half of Spain died.
Yes. It’s something, alright.
If it looks like a crock of crap and it smells like a crock of crap, odds are, it’s a crock of crap.
I saw it coming. Why are socialists such cowards?
Years ago I developed the theory that the reason European countries were succumbing to socialism, while our country still prized liberty above life, was because only the very brave left Europe to settle here. We got the best. Europe was left with the dregs.
It’s disheartening to see how scarce the brave have become in our Republic.
Because socialism appeals to society’s losers and bottom-feeders.
Because socialism appeals to society’s losers and bottom-feeders.
How’d I do that?

How’d I do that?
Die Hippie, Die,
Exactly! The dregs.
Spain is taking the same stance it has always taken, a stick your head in the sand approach to tyranny and terrorism.
Spain supported Hitler during World War II while maintaining they were neutral.
I was in Madrid one week after the bombing. Zero outrage, just passive people. One of the locals with heuvos told me that a record number of young, 1st time voters swept in the heuvo-less government. So, idealistic, uninformed & inexperienced children elected a bunch of weak-kneed appeasers who would rather give up their freedom in the ill-begotten notion that maybe the bad guys will be nice to them. Sounds much like the O’bambi people, to me.
By actions like this, Spain will once again be part of Muslim held land. All too soon, as long as their leaders remain stuck on stupid.
How do you say WHIMPS in spanish?
Spain’s highest court was ordered by the World Court to release this poor fellow. His rights to privacy must have been violated. (Not really, but not out of the realm of possibility.)
For those here who label the Israelis soft on terrorism for their actions in returning their own, I too was confused by this until I chatted with a friend of mine who is visiting from Israel. He shared with me the bond that those in the military have with is the very fibers that hold the country together. They will do anything required to provide closure to the families and brothers/sisters in arms.
Expect to see swift justice in the form of a drone/special forces attack to take care of the terrorists “freed”
Are there no ~young~ men among us with the mental and physical toughness of, say, a Gordon Liddy or an Oliver North? I do believe that the closest thing this culture has to “hope,” is the possibility that there are a few among us who will address some of our problems and will not be too fastidious about the rules (including the world court, European Law, procedural fussiness of the SCOTUS, etc., etc.)
