Food crisis, global depression worsens

By see-dubya  •  July 18, 2008 02:30 PM

Not only are people cutting back on organic food, but now NPR reports that some people can’t even afford meat:

So Nunez and her daughter are mostly stuck at home.

The rising cost of food means their money gets them about a third fewer bags of groceries — $100 used to buy about 12 bags of groceries, but now it’s more like seven or eight. So they cut back on expensive items like meat, and they don’t buy extras like ice cream anymore. Instead, they eat a lot of starches like potatoes and noodles.

It’s one thing to hear that on the radio, but it’s another to see it on NPR’s website:

Perspective.

I’m telling you, it’s getting hard out there.

Once that part is done wean yourself from the government teat, it might hurt your democrat voting heads for a little while but believe me you’ll thank me later. I listen to NPR. They are very liberal. Every thing from news, to film reviews always has a pro-liberal / anti-conservative slant. It’s cultural, in my opinion. Maybe a few of the people employed might think a little more like us, and is getting a stern talking to right now as to how this was inappropriate.

I take care of myself. I don’t always eat what I should, but I would never let myself get to that state and I would NEVER expect the government to pay for me. I shouldn’t have to support that kind of grossly unhealthy behavior.

    This made my morning!!!

Agreed - you’d swear that this was a parody piece! But you owe the posting hat tip to see-dubya on this one.

Though I’m sure Michelle got a giggle outta it too; I expect many of us are still trying to get the coffee out of our keyboards and wiping off our monitors. :)

So because she had an accident 17 years ago she is on social security for life due to depression???? I CALL BULL SH!T

I think those two ate them.

Seriously, my mother both grew up dirt poor in an immigrant household (my father was slightly better off). Even when my parents moved up and out to the suburbs, my mom would still eat the parts of chickens (hearts, kidneys, meet, etc) thatshe had to eat as a kid.

Maybe she IS pregnant, but doesn’t realize it yet - wouldn’t be the first time that happened.

The fact that people suggest she gets pregnant so she can bludge even more money is sickening, but worse is that they apparently say it like it’s highly unusual that she hasn’t done it already.

    That’s welfare abuse imho.

She says a car accident 17 years ago left her depressed and disabled with a crappy excuse to do absolutely nothing and be a drain on society, incapable unwilling to get a job as it would cut in on her feeding times every 2.2 picoseconds.

    There, that’s better.

40 years old, never worked, 637 a month in SSI and 102 in Food Stamps.

Just using a rough guess she started collecting right away at 18 (not counting any welfare she got when she had her daughter and collected over the years) she has collected $7644 dollars a year of SSI multiplied times 22 years is $168,168 in SSI collected. Even if she only started (doubtful) after the “accident” 17 years ago that is caused her “depression” that is still $129,948 collected off you and I the taxpayer and putting zero of it back in.

Yup, that is why the liberals want bigger government and more money for social programs.

Perhaps NPR’s spin here is that the starches in noodles and potatoes are bad and causing these women to become ‘big-boned’.

This could easily be the start of the ‘ban starches’ movement. First, it was cigs, then transfats. And now starches?

So let me get this straight. All I have to do is convince some Government hack that I’m depressed because of something that happened to me 17 years ago and I can go on the dole for life?

Wow, does my getting hired at my current job count? How about the birth of my teenage son? It was fun at first, but then I had to take him home with me.

Oh I know, how about, “you see here mister bureaucrat, watching how much money Al Gore is making on his global warming scam has caused me to be depressed and I can’t work. How ’bout some money so I can afford ice cream?” Whaddya think?

So she didn’t work between the ages of 16 - 23 either. I guess the work ethic of the last generation has skiped the last two generations. Thats what entitlements do for ya.
