Bankrupt this nation? You might want to check your history an see what party the biggest deficit spending presidents of the last half-century were.

Snatch defeat from the jaws of victory? Well according to the conservative’s favorite on-the-ground blogger in Iraq, Michael Yon, “a fair-minded person could say with reasonable certainty that the war has ended”. Not to mention that Maliki agrees with Obama’s withdrawal from Iraq.

If an Obama presidency scares you and BarryF so much, then you two have little faith in our constitution and the system of check and balances if affords our government. One might even go so far as to question your patriotism.

Thanks MM for doing this contest. We have quite an array of talent on our side and it’s impressive to see it all in one place.

I think the best way to defeat a cult of personality, like the one that surrounds Obama, is by mocking.

Obama’s no Saviour, no Messiah, not even a JFK – he’s an inexperienced conventional politician with a record that’s unremarkable at best, cynically self-serving at worst. He has no principles that cannot be compromised in exchange for the pursuit of power.

The only things he’s got going for him are a highly manipulative “branding” effort and the drooling mindless support of the vast majority of the news & entertainment media. Plus he’s got the most spectacularly overblown ego in modern political memory – lacking in accomplishments, he tries to substitute shallow self-esteem.

I say we fight back. All of us. The best we can. One comment or blog post or silly picture at a time. Thanks to everybody who’s contributed, here, and elsewhere.

Then something remarkable happened. The Iraqi government came out Sunday morning, after the Sunday newspapers were printed and delivered, and issued a statement of their own announcing that the Der Spiegel article and its allegations about statements made by the Iraqi Prime Minister were false.
This incident is virtually a duplicate of another that happened a little more than a week ago, after the drive-by media breathlessly reported that the Iraqi Prime Minister was demanding that any bilateral security agreement between Iraq and the United States include a firm date for withdrawal: NPR – Al-Maliki Demands Timetable For Iraq Withdrawal. The only problem with that story was that it was false, as well. The BBC’s Baghdad bureau reported that when they listened to their recording of what al-Maliki actually said, they discovered that he never mentioned withdrawal at all – and that all subsequent reports in the Western media were based on a “mistranslation”.

It’s funny how you and Chaps have the same magic 8 ball about a “successful Obummer presidency.” How many times did it take to shake the ball until the right answer appeared?

Funny, that you forgot to mention one important item after your misleading comment that deficit spending presidents were the worst for the economy ever! Typical liberal perspective. I guess you forgot that it was Clinton that loosened mortgage requirements for certain socio-economic groups.

I guess you and your fellow Obummer supporters think a large welfare system will “stimulate” the economy too, right? Where’s the freaking liberal fiscal conservative practices that they promised? They’ve already promised a 2nd bailout. What’s up with that?

    Huh?

Did you bother to read them?

Diplomats from the United States Embassy in Baghdad spoke to Mr. Maliki’s advisers on Saturday, said an American official, speaking on condition of anonymity in order to discuss what he called diplomatic communications. After that, the government’s spokesman, Ali al-Dabbagh, issued a statement casting doubt on the magazine’s rendering of the interview.

The statement, which was distributed to media organizations by the American military early on Sunday, said Mr. Maliki’s words had been “misunderstood and mistranslated,” but it failed to cite specifics.

“Unfortunately, Der Spiegel was not accurate,” Mr. Dabbagh said Sunday by telephone. “I have the recording of the voice of Mr. Maliki. We even listened to the translation.”

But the interpreter for the interview works for Mr. Maliki’s office, not the magazine. And in an audio recording of Mr. Maliki’s interview that Der Spiegel provided to The New York Times, Mr. Maliki seemed to state a clear affinity for Mr. Obama’s position, bringing it up on his own in an answer to a general question on troop presence.

The NYT has the AUDIO! They are not going to patently falsify a quote and then claim to have the AUDIO to back it up.

If you do, then it is you who need to take your conspiracy theories elsewhere. And BTW,

But after the Spiegel interview was published and began generating headlines Saturday, officials at the U.S. embassy in Baghdad contacted Maliki’s office to express concern and seek clarification on the remarks, according to White House spokesman Scott Stanzel.

So tell me again where TOS or I are engaging in speculation? It is patently clear that there was no claim of misinterpretation or misquoting until the White House stuck their nose in the situation.

And lastly, they still have yet to say how Der Spiegel was “not accurate.” If he was misquoted, what did Milki actually say?

I would think that trumps what any party, even the ones involved, claims to have said, especially when the motivations for such a denial are questionable.

From your article, Its clear that the NYT doesn’t have a direct quote of Maliki saying what you say he meant, only what it seemed to say (to the new york times)

Regardless, given McCain’s larger deficit woes, your link also supports my original point which you responded to:

Bankrupt this nation? You might want to check your history an see what party the biggest deficit spending presidents of the last half-century were.
