Defaulting deadbeat Dem tours New Orleans

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 21, 2008 11:38 AM

Someone send a clue to the New Orleans Times-Picayune! They missed the story. They missed the delicious spectacle of defaulting deadbeat Democrat Laura Richardson–she who lives sky high on the hog, leaving a trail of unpaid bills in her wake– parachuting into New Orleans and clucking about the plight of its people.

Rich, just rich:

For U.S. Rep. Laura Richardson, one member of a congressional delegation touring the New Orleans region, a few images from the opening two days made her wonder, “Do we live in America?”

She recalled a large family in St. Bernard Parish living in a FEMA trailer containing a single twin bed, with a bathroom that would cramp just one adult trying to bathe. The family was recently notified by FEMA that it would have to leave the trailer, according to Richardson, a Democrat from California.

Government has to “stop looking at a manual and look at the people,” she said.

Look in the mirror first, lady.

***

Wonder if she’ll stop by 60-inch-tv-owning New Orleans “slum”-dweller Sharon Jasper’s place. I have a feeling these two would get along.

Why doesn’t she just teach them how to be deadbeats? It seems easy enough to do: take things that aren’t yours, and don’t give them back. Laura Richardson has dedicated her life to this.

To her, this must be what America is.

If that doesn’t work, maybe Chris Dodd can have the whole area a “Friend of Angelo…”

I have a feeling Congresswoman Richardson could teach Sharon Jasper a thing or two.

    Do we live in America?

Yes, we live in America, where you can default on loans and yet, get another and still another. Where, despite being dishonest, or, even because of it, you can be re-elected to Congress, without opposition.

Where are all of the Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking for help in restoring Iowa and helping the folks affected by the floods?

Where is all the media asking the tough questions about why the federal government hasn’t solved the problem? Asking where the FEMA trucks (and trailers) are?

Why isn’t the Federal Government relocating Iowa people to free hotels in Chicago?

When will Spike Lee say that the Federal Government blew up the levees that failed in Des Moines?

Where are Sean Penn and the Dixie Chicks?

Where are all the looters stealing high-end tennis shoes and big screen television sets?

When will we hear Governor Chet Culver say that he wants to rebuild a “vanilla” Iowa, because that’s the way God wants it?

Where is the hysterical 24/7 media coverage complete with reports of cannibalism?

Where are the people declaring that George Bush hates white, rural people?

How come in 2 weeks, you will never hear about the Iowa flooding ever again?

And while you’re at it, please lower the entrance standards of all U.S. universities, and hand out scholarships without precondition (only for people of color) who have to unfairly compete with all of the intelligent, hardworking white and Asian students vying for those spots.

This is why high school diplomas mean nothing anymore. College degrees are not much better. All because unqualified people are passed through the system. Restore the requirements and people with real high school degrees will be viewed with respect again.

This woman should have visited before Katrina hit. Katrina flushed the toilet of entitlement, leaving those who could have gotten out and didn’t sitting on the roof screaming “save me!” The pre-Katrina government allowed the city to slide into the dumper. The federal gov knew how many were on the dole and did nothing the change the situation. The unfairness of the situation is NOT what Katrina did but what EXISTED before Katrina hit. A city can’t be built on entitlements and be expected to survive a natural disaster!

It never ceases to amaze me that every time I turn on the tv or pick up a newspaper I am subject to never-ending whining and crying about how the black race is being disrespected or mistreated. Even though black Americans only represent 12.8% of our population, they command never-ending media attention to themselves and their “dilemmas”. I would like to hear more from the Americans who are educated, have successful careers, enjoy happy family lives and, like most of us, consider themselves blessed to have the opportunities available to them in this great country and are sick of hearing about the whiners who think they deserve everything for free. But, of course, these are not things that the happy liberal whiner cares for so they are not worthy of main-stream media attention.

I am so tired of New Orleans. You would think it’s the only place that has had a disaster in the past decade. Politics has played it so much, and used the people to promote politicians’ welfare (and still do)so much, that it has become a sham. Between the trailers, debit cards, etc., no wonder people sit on their butts with their hand out, and smile for the MSM cameras. Elsewhere, people get off of their rear ends, pick up the pieces, help each other, and get working to rebuild. No FEMA trailers, no debit cards, no parade of MSM commentators, no politicians making speeches blaming Bush…just rebuilding. I know Iowans. I have relatives/friends who are Iowans. Great bunch of people! New Orleans can’t hold a candle to them. As far as New Orleans goes, I never saw a more corrupt city, filled with so many losers/whiners demand so much from the American taxpayer. I saw a show recently about a “hurricane” storm that hit Oregon. I didn’t see people standing around demanding debit cards and trailers, and blaming Bush. I saw people committed to helping each other, rebuilding, and, especially, getting back to work. Score “one” for Oregon. I’m talking “winners”, not “losers”. Not a sermon, just a thought.

Sharon Jasper’s statement that she will “not be treated like a slave” says it all. Whether she realizes it or not, she is a slave by her own doing by relying on welfare for 57 of 58 years of her life. By allowing the state to control her livelihood rather than taking charge of her own life, she is a slave to the master called Government. But alas, a presumed hero of hers is there now, promoting this attitude of self-enslavement and entitlement. It’s pretty sad when people like Jasper are one’s political base. But then again, how much more loyal is one whose entire livelihood is controlled by a politician? I just wish these folks would have more self-respect and dignity to know they can do better.
