Cliff Notes version of Obama press conference in Jordan

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 22, 2008 11:10 AM

1. “Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh.”

2. As commander-in-chief, er, rather, when I’m commander-in-chief…

3. The surge I opposed is working.

4. The architect of the surge, Gen. David Petraeus, is going to waste money on electricity projects, so I must be there to stop him.

5. “Ummmmmm.”

6. Now, stop asking me questions and take pictures.

And 7. “Israel is a strong friend of Israel.” (I missed this one, but commenter Jim M. and other readers report that Obama actually said this. Gaffe-tastic!)

The Tour de Farce continues…

I for one do not think it is a bad thing to amass specialists, and a lot of them, ready to answer questions our President may have that demand nuanced and thoughtful answers.

Ultimately the decisions to be made are the President’s alone, but the mere fact that he has a large number of advisors proves nothing except that he wants a lot of input from a lot of people that know what they are talking about.

It certainly doesn’t prove that he huddles all 300 of them in a room on every single issue and just takes a poll. Do ya think just maybe he might have some people that specialize in oh, say, Russia and others that may know more about, I don’t know…maybe the Middle East, and some he will turn to when he specifically has to know something regarding East Africa?

    Do ya think maybe?

Or a sign you are clueless and looking real hard on how to spin it to sound pretty in front of the cameras. Did he ever take a public speaking class? I thought those were mandatory in most colleges? I’d love to see the grades from that class, did it have teleprompters in his speech class to help him get through it? He doesn’t have a very good record going there. Even in an elementary example, like his church, Obama feigned ignorance to the Black Liberation Ideology espoused there for his 20+ years at Trinity. He made the decision to go there and to stay for over 20 years. Does it only count, when his decision to stick with it was politically expedient but it’s okay to change, once it no longer is?

Taking time to think about an answer before giving it is a sign of strength.

Or, ignorance on an issue. Eight (8) minutes of that forty (40) minute speech was glottal stops. That’s one-eighth (1/18) of his speech. Sounds more like a weakness in thought and/or articulation.

    Obama actually gives thoughtful answers.

Perhaps you are looking for warm fuzzies from your candidate. But, I look for one with some command of the facts that can talk to someone, besides other elitists.

For example, he said he would listen to Petraeus but not necessarily do exactly what Petraeus wants. That’s exactly what a commander in chief should do, and exactly for the reasons Obama gave

Yes. God forbid that he actually listen to a seasoned military commander before he makes a military decision, based on his extensive experience as a community organizer, that could have dire consequences for us at home and abroad. I would try to count his time in the Senate for you but, in all fairness, between the Congressional recesses and his record of “not voting”, he would be in the negative even more.

I know you probably an expert in all aspects of your profession: working the fryer, counting change and putting exactly two pickles on each burger at your local McD’s, but in other places, complex issues demand expert knowledge and specialization.

Smart people know where to go to seek the answers they need. Idiots do not. And then we get situations where certain parties are surprised at the level of Sunni/Shia violence in the wake of certain invasions, even though such a result was entirely predictable to experts of the region.

Absolutely, Obama is clueless on what it takes to win a war against Muslim extremists and (assuming he wins first) when he attempts to move mass amounts of troops out in 2009 during his first year to make the deadline the terrorists will turn Iraq into their new playground and the naive Malaki will be begging (assuming he isn’t assassinated before he gets the chance to beg) for our help again to finish the job we should have been staying to finish in the first place.

The generals on the ground have the better position to plan a timetable they plan on scaling back on the troops. I trust those generals, not some community organizer and Marxist tool running for President making promises out his rear.

The reason troops can pull out is because of the surge that Republicans supported. Obama and fellow socialists wanted to give up and lose. Now he wants to take credit for the success he tried to thwart. Typical loser.

I like how he is playing what Mark Steyn terms the “shell game.”

Pretend that you didn’t support military force in one region (in this case, Iraq) because it “should have been” used in another country that was the “real” threat (say Afghanistan or Iran, whatever). Of course, Obama would not support military force ANYWHERE; it is just a ruse.

Troops will be sent to Afghanistan, and liberals will whine and say it is a lost cause and we should be out. . .because North Korea is the real threat. If we ever take on North Korea, then Iran is the real threat. If we decide to bomb Iran, we should not do that because we should be Afghanistan or concentrating on North Korea.

Oh well, that is the childish shell game of Democrats. They NEVER support any force used against an enemy, and Obama will be no different. He is trying to take credit for the success of Republicans and the Surge.
