So, the McCain camp is trying to have fun with the Obamedia lovefest. They’ve posted two music video spoofs and are asking supporters to vote for their favorite. I agree with the message, of course. And the vids are well-executed.
But doesn’t anyone at McCain Central feel the least bit silly mocking the same suck-up media that McCain himself basked in so warmly until just very recently and spent his entire career wooing?
Free piece of advice to the lovelorn Maverick: Perhaps McCain should leave the media mockery to others who haven’t had their lips planted on the MSM’s backside for decades.

Hopefully he’s learned a lesson about the fickle media. But to be fair, is there any politician out there that has not spent their career trying to woo the media?

Finally McCain does something right…
Someone should tell McCain that this “spoofing” is Bush-like (for years, Bush refused to criticize anyone from the other party or anything they did, even going out of his way to order others not to do so), and that would quickly bring out his “maverick” streak and push him away from the tactic. It will be interesting to see what McCain does doward election day when the October surprises start flying his way, and he tries getting the MSM to listen to and publish his explanation of what “the truth” is.
Next it becomes a pain in the A$$ …

I applaud him for doing what President Bush never did for the past 7 and a half years: Take on the liberal MSM. I think the videos are excellent, and we all know that bratty, totalitarian liberals in the MSM have no sense of humor and cannot stand being made fun of. To me this shows good judgment by McCain and that he is not going to be a Dole and let the MSM win the election.
I thought the “drill for oil” commercial was very effective as well.
Actually, this might work to his advantage because for the average viewer–like our grandmothers–who get all their news from the MSM–they cannot possibly miss how the MSM USED to love McCain and how biased the MSM is towards Republicans.

And – nothing would please me more to also see a McCain presidency that would be good for America, where enough good conservatives don’t b*tch and whine, but take a concrete positive action to convince McCain that what he is doing in regards to illegal immigration is absolutely wrong for America. This is rewarding people who successfully break our laws. How shocking it would be, for the people who are acting deranged in regards to McCain, calling him a socialist, to see in the next years that they were totally wrong, and that McCain would actually not be the monster that so many people here claim that he is.
It’s really embarrassing to look at the people on either extreme end of the bell curve of politics, and this sort of behavior, after the republican primary has concluded is not going to accomplish anything other than pissing off, and not offering any sort of constructive criticism. I really doubt John worked long hours to put together an internet video, WM. Even he admits he’s not too up on internet technology.
Instead someone on his campaign quite belately put it together. We’ll have to see if McCain distances himself, disowns/denouces it as “hateful” or whatever.
Even if he himself had the idea and skills to “produce a video”, one swallow does not a summer make. Such one-offs make for a fun forgetful sidetrips, but are meaningless if there’s no consistancy.
Also, as Michelle noted, there’s the cognitive dissonance involved. If he jokes about how the media is his base – as he has – and then offers up a quick video complaining that he’s not getting their attention, he’s going to be rightly hammered for it. Can’t have it both ways.
The bottom line is that he needs to dump the stuff that drags him down, e.g Juan Hernandez and start running a campaign. If he doesn’t, he can’t blame the media or anyone else – it’s up to the candidate to run a winning campaign.

Huh? At any rate, it’s painfully obvious to anybody who’s not been in a cave the last few decades that McCain has made a career out of playing to and sucking up to the media. He genuinely believed they were in love with him, they were his base. He didn’t have the smarts to know they were just using him for years solely to attack Republicans.
Now he’s been “spurned”, as Michelle notes. There is a saying about having to lie in the bed one makes. To complain now “why doncha love me like ya used to do” worked as a hit for Hank Williams but it I don’t know it’ll do the trick for McCain. But if he can pull off having it both ways, more power to him.
While nobody expects much of anything Reagan-like from McCain, he would have been well advised to take a page from Ronnie’s playbook and hold the media at a distance, only using them when he wants to “go over their own heads”.

A few months ago the left really liked McCain. He was even endorsed by the NY Times and the LA Times, and was “recommended” by The Seattle Times (you should read why.) The only reason they hate him now is because he stands in the way of the coronation of the anointed one, the Obamessiah, not because they think he is conservative.
I made the decision some time ago to hold my nose and vote for McCain in November. But almost every post I read by you, wise_man, makes me regret my decision. Are you really a rabid McCain supporter or an Obama mole? Because, if you’re actually trying to undermine McCain, it’s working.

I have ONE major election, quality of life, survival issue. It is an issue that affects me in Southern California EVERY DAMN DAY… at work, in my neighborhood, driving, taxes, EVERYWHERE, and McAmnesty personifies it for me.
I fought hard against McAmnesty and his shamnisty bill and we seemed to have won. But now the old bastard says amnesty for everyone… more and more and more crossing over is okay. Good old Rob and his taxes will just keep supporting you illegals and welfare recipients. And if one of you illegals kills Rob’s wife or children.. well, oops, it must be those “bigots”, those racists, those haters that FORCED the poor illegals into acts of violence, not sweet old McAmnesty. McAmnesty was just looking out for “God’s children”, nope, nope, nope… golly gee, I am a mav-er-rick!

This is not about “disagreeing.” When someone says something that is factually not true, or gives an opinion that is not based on fact, I respond. There are many things that McCain has done and said that are in my opinion, wrong.

If I have left anyone with the impression that I think he is “always right” it is a false one. There are positions that he holds that I am opposed to. (He is soft on immigration, he believes in this man made global warming hogwash, etc.) However I have reconciled myself to the fact that I am going to have to get off my rear end and advocate for or fight against these positions depending on what I believe. I SHOULD have been doing this with Bush. We elected someone who was supposedly MORE conservative then Reagan and he allowed congress to pile on the national debt in a gluttonous orgy of waste. He also allowed millions of illegal aliens to enter the USA. Etc..
I am personally satisfied that the course of action that I advocate: Elect the codger and then seriously hold his feet to the fire, is the only sensible course of action to take in the face of the collapse this country will face with a democrat controlled house, senate and an Obama in the executive branch.

I know Rob. The illegals have already started a war with us and our “leaders” don’t recognize it. Hell, McAmnesty panders to them every chance he gets. He should know better being from Arizona but I guess he doesn’t get out much. I have friends that have moved from Calfornia to Arizona and they claim it’s even worse in that state. I could only imagine how bad our cities will be if McAmnesty grants another amnesty.
Our next President (really Bush should do it now) needs to come out and say that all federal funding will be cut from Sanctuary Cities, Counties and States. Hit them in the pocket book and they will take care of this cancer.
