Gas tax for thee, but not for the DNC
So, at the same time Congressional Dems are pushing a gas tax hike, they’re benefiting from special gas tax breaks from Denver for the party’s convention.

The committee hosting the Democratic National Convention has used the city’s gas pumps to fill up and apparently avoided paying state and federal fuel taxes.
The practice, which began four months ago, may have ended hours after its disclosure. An aide to Mayor John Hickenlooper released a statement Tuesday evening saying that Denver 2008 Host Committee members would pay market prices for fuel and would also be liable for all applicable taxes.
However, Public Works spokeswoman Christine Downs told City Council members just hours before that host committee members were fueling up at the city pumps. The city does not pay taxes on the fuel for its fleet, and Downs said the host committee would not either.
The disclosure brought immediate scrutiny. Colorado Attorney General John Suthers said the practice “would seem” to be illegal and referred the matter to the state Department of Revenue.
Nonprofits, such as the host committee, are subject to state and federal gasoline taxes, according to the Department of Revenue.
The issue arose during the regular weekly meeting of Hickenlooper and City Council members. Downs requested authorization for a contract so the Public Works Department could be reimbursed by the host committee for use of “fueling facilities, fuel and car washes.”
Downs said the contract with the host committee started in March and that $9,700 in fuel and services had been purchased from the city so far. But the committee has yet to be billed. The city anticipates $466,125 in total revenues from the contract, Downs said.
City Councilman Charlie Brown raised the question of whether the host committee would be paying fuel taxes, and Downs said it wouldn’t.

No media challenged him to stop building multi million $$ bike trails with these federal highway funds in his home district of Duluth, MN; where said bike trails would be under snow for 6 mos of the year.
As for Denver, I loved the Mayor’s defense “Well the Republicans do it too.” The truth: “Oh no they don’t.”

Dems’ whole energy “solution” is to have us use less and less and have no new supply through drilling. So they WANT higher prices with a gas tax.
It is time for McCain to start calling them and their MSM allies on it and putting them on the defensive, like he did successfully with their Obama lovefest.

Hey, they can add bicycle attire to their convention wardrobe. A bicyle advocacy group has donated 1,000 bicyles for the use of delegates at both R and D conventions. So the delegates don’t even need cars and gas as they ride the streets of Denver and Minneapolis between the convention, hotels, restaurants and other points of interest.
The Dems want to forcibly wean us off oil and cars- so here’s a great way to lead by example:)

Reminds me of the old Soviet Union, and other one-party countries. The politicians are “special” people and exempt from their own rules and ethics; not so for the peasants.

Frankly I’m surprised that the Democrats weren’t siphoning gas from cars with McCain bumper stickers. That’s more their style.

And YES, I AM doing everything I can to promote global warming. I’ve bought cheap property about 10 miles inland and Im waiting for the Oceans to rise so I will have expensive beachfront property.
